Cien Agaves Tacos & Tequila – Old Town Ratings and Reviews
Got a quiet table for two in the outdoor courtyard-alley. Recommend this over indoors unless you prefer a noisy "scene".
Our waitress was very friendly and extremely attentive.
We started with Generous portion of guacamole that had just the right chunkiness and was garnished with pomegranate seeds -- nice touch!
Several vegetarian options but I chose the Beets by Cien -- exactly as advertised: Slow roasted red and golden beets with fresh avocado, grape tomatoes, and grilled corn tossed in a chimichurri sauce. Served on a bed of shaved brussel sprouts, diced onions and dried cranberries. It was delicious! Had a side of black beans and rice but didn't need so much food. Portions are large!
Husband had a combination plate which he enjoyed.
In the heart of Old Town Scottsdale and very low key. Dress as you are. Come hungry!
The server had a terrible attitude, like she hated that she even had to come in for her shift. She barely spoke a word. Walked up to our table and just assumed we would start talking first by getting right into our order. We had to ask her for everything, including to clear off our table, and even then she left half the dishes. Additionally, and probably worse, our enchiladas were barely warm (not appetizing), and my friend said her re-fried beans tasted awful. Definitely would not go back. Very poor quality and experience.
Our waiter, Erik, was terrific! We began with 2 appetizers - the queso dip and the guacamole. The guacamole was fresh and creamy, one of the best ever! The tings tacos were delicious, especially with some salsa verde. We ate inside, but many families were enjoying the outdoor courtyard. The Mexican decorations were interesting. Daily happy hours are awesome because of the excellent margaritas at great prices, half price appetizers, and $2.50 tinga tacos. A fun place in Old Town Scottsdale!
Cien Agave Tacos and Tequila is a fun Southwestern cuisine find in Old Town Scottsdale. The building looks original which is always preferable to a new, chain restaurant! There was available free parking on the street nearby at lunchtime during the week. The room isn't huge but adequate with a small patio. The menu has variety beyond the tacos in their name which was great. They even have an Ahi Poke salad version which I tried. It would have been great but the rice was strangely crunchy. My ratings would have been higher if our waitress had been attentive. My husband had to gesture broadly across the room to get a refill on his water (his only beverage) but then she failed to refill any other glass. When we get back to Old Town I'll give this place another try.
This is a nice place, centrally located with decent food, the service was adequate, nothing special, much like the food...I would give this place a 3 out of 5 of it weren't on the middle of old town.
If you want decent reasonably priced Mexican food with so so service this is your spot.
My main complaint is that I didn't enjoy the salmon taco at all because the salmon was not fresh. The carnitas taco was good, as were the corn tortillas. Guacamole was good, not excellent. Could have used some salsas with the tacos. Maybe I missed a salsa stand somewhere? The place was crowded. The atmosphere is fun. I would go back.
Corn Agaves is my favorite place to go for good food, great drinks and a fun atmosphere. With an extensive tequila menu and creative margaritas you can't lose. Most menu items are plentiful and fresh. I prefer the ala carte taco menu but the fillings were a little light this time.
I come at least once a year when I'm in Scottsdale and bring all my friends.
I and a friend came here for dinner and the service was very good. They bring out nachos and salsa (complimentary) when you sit down. Their happy hour is worth it. The food was exceptional and very authentic Mexican. I tried an avocado margarita for the first time and loved it! They have a large selection of tequila and this place would be a lot of fun to go with a group of friends
I was impressed with Cien Agaves. We reserved a table for 10 and arrived to have it already setup and waiting for us. They had chips & salsa at our table within minutes of us arriving and were also quick to take our drink orders. Overall, the food was excellent and the restaurant was very accomodating. My only advice would be sticking with the traditional food and not trying non-Mexican dishes like the poke.
