Churrascos - River Oaks Ratings and Reviews
Quality of the food remains high. Beautiful preparation and presentation. Empanadas/Churrasco Steak/PioX meal was delicious. Even my pre-meal cocktail was perfect. The service - not so good. My waiter suffered from a lack of training. He brought the appetizer with the main course! I had to ask for dessert. No refill offer on coffee.
The food is still excellent. My feeling is that the owners/manager have decided to target a lower level of service and have accepted wait staff that fills that bill. It felt like I was eating at Los Cucos. They need to hire professional waiters.
The food as always was wonderful. The only thing that threw me off is the fact that I asked for a Cosmo and they gave me some other concoction and although it was tasty it would have been better if they said they didn't know what that was and suggested something different instead of giving me whatever they wanted, assuming I wouldn't know the difference. And then to top it off they charged me for 4 when I only drank 3, but I guess that was my fault for not checking my receipt before paying. Anyway, I will go back eventually (for the tres leches of course).
The food is great as it has been consistently for many years. The Churrasco steak is always good, but I decided to try something different -- gambas al ajio. This dish was also very tasty. Wife had a chicken dish which she loved (and I loved the next day -- portion was quite large so we took some home.) Of course, Tres Leches for dessert is a must.
Biggest negative was the noise level. The clientele was definitely NOT boisterous, yet the sound level was high. I recall the noise level used to be much quieter. We will certainly return, but not for a quiet dinner.
Dinner was delicious as always. The spinach and mushroom empanadas were amazing and also loved the lobster bisque and taquitos. All of us had filets that were flavorful and so tender. Split the brownie ice cream dessert. Love Churrascos. It never disappoints.
This was our second visit during Houston Restaurant Weeks -- thank you to Churrascos for extending HRW after Hurricane Harvey! Our meal was outstanding and the HRW menu was a great deal. I highly recommend the empanadas and my beef and shrimp brochette was delicious . The tres leches is fantastic--among the best I've had.
We can't wait to go back for the regular menu and perhaps for some of the special events.
We've been here many times and especially like the wine dinners. This time featured Loica wines from Chile. We enjoy the flexibility of reserving the time that is convenient for us rather than a fixed seating. Pairings of food with wine were great and encouraged us to try something new. Efrain was a gracious server and gave helpful introductions to each of the four wines poured.
I was not impressed with the food on this visit. The lunch buffet had meats on it that were dried out. However, we did tell the manager, and he had the kitchen make us some better plates. Kudos for that. Hopefully, it was an off day. We have had plenty of meals at this chain that have been great.
We went to enjoy the HRW menu which has all the items Churrasco's is known for and some happy surprises. The winner first course on this menu was the ceviche. We had the fish taco also which was delicious and very ample...maybe too ample. The steak was wonderful as always, the brochette was huge and delicious, the trout was something I had not tried at Churrasco's and II was glad I did. Fresh and yummy. Desserts...always great. The HRW menu is a bargain! Everything was generously portioned and quite a range of choices, where many HRW menus are very limited. A bonus was some special cocktail options too for an enticing $5.95. This is one place to not miss at HRW.
Not as good as I remembered Churrascos to be. We were told we couldn't have happy hour price drinks unless at the bar while the menu did not indicate so except for Thursday happy hour. We had to leave our table to go to bar for happy hour drinks. Asked for extra ice and didn't get it until nearly the end of dinner. Vegetables not cooked very well. Service was not very attentive even though we were there early and it was not crowded.
We love going to Churrasco's on Westheimer and introducing friends to the wonderful Churrasco steak and Cubana soup. High ratings to the Queso DIAZÁBAL Fondue and Plantain Crusted Shrimp additional appetizers. Finishing the feast is their wonderful Tres Leches Cake and Flan. A little nosier and more hectic during Restaurant week, but well worth the dining experience.
We went for the Houston Restaurant Month menu. It was ok but did not wow. I had the fish and it was ok but overdone and the sauce overwhelmed. I prefer more subtle flavours. The ceviche was good and the the sorbert for dessert was very nice especially after the heavy sauce. The plantain chips and dips were excellent.
Have been coming to Chursascos for years. Went for restaurant week and was disappointed. For rest. week, black bean soup was not served in a bread bowl but the soup was good altho a bit spicy, the steak churrasco was ok( 6 oz small), that plate used to come with plantains but now is only served with fried potatoes. Tres leches was excellent. We upcharged some of the steaks, added some sides and ordered drinks and our bill was still $300 for 4 of us. Felt like something was missing in the meal for this price...waiter was great!! Other places better for the price!
Went for brunch. Our drinks were a little slow to come but otherwise good. Brunch had many options to choose from. Everything was tasty. Loved the pasta bar and crepe bar. Mmm mmm. I would say a bit pricey for brunch menu but seems like this is the going rate for Houston.
