Christopher's + Crush Lounge Ratings and Reviews
Christopher's is an Arizona icon. I have been going to it for 27 years. It is not as well known as the big steakhouses like Mastro's, but it is in the same class. I like it most because it is quiet and you can hear yourself think and talk to other people without yelling and leaning your head in all the time.
The menu is very diverse and esoteric and they have a great wine list.
I suggest the foie gras. We had the ribeye for two. It was perfectly cooked and there was enough for three.
Christopher's has always been pricey, but no more so than any other restaurant in its class.
I was a bit put off by our server. She used the obsequious "we" too much. (How are "we?" What will "we" be eating? Do "we" want a drink? This is a pet peeve of mine.) She was adequate, but not great.
I had to send my drink back twice because the bartender didn't know how to make a gimlet. The first one was great. After the second try on the second one, I just told her to take it away. She expressed no interest in it and made no mention of taking it off of the bill. (I didn't have my glasses, so I'm not sure it was even removed). The manager did not inquire.
The bus service was outstanding. I should have left a side tip.
It is worth going there for a drink just to see the front door.
The Duck Confit was very good, as were the mussels—though the sauce was lukewarm. The major disappointment was the Cheesecake, lacking any substantive flavor, very bland with cottage cheese consistency. The wine and coffees were top notch. All in all disappointing with the high prices.
The service was real slow on a Wednesday night when the restaurant was basically empty. The waiter wasn’t very engaging nor attentive. The sea bass and mussels had very little taste/flavor to them. The soup came out like warm and the salad had brown lettuce in it. Wasn’t worth the price or the drive.
Ambiance was fine, not extra ordinary. The service was outstanding and personal. The meats were great but the gruyere mashed potatoes were watery and reflected no taste of gruyere or much taste at all. The “tower dessert” was very special, still light yet flavorful.
I've been here several times and the food is delightful. The best foie I've ever had time and time again. Typically the service is excellent, and this last time was no different, but the server we had was like a robot. He was good, but seriously no detectable emotion throughout the night.
Lovely restaurant. Our server was very educated on wine, making it fun and interesting. The food was wonderful, reminded us of our best French foods inparis. We had tasting menu and paired wines, a fabulous value and just perfect. Very quiet, very pleasant. Strange to be in a shopping mall but it was wonderful, we shall return. Enjoy!
I have been here before to enjoy as special occasion. They really know how to make a birthday dessert sparkle! The food overall was good, not overly memorable and the service was unenthusiastic on this particular night. I do recommend scallops which were cooked perfectly.
The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable.
It's been a while since we'd been to Christopher's. It was lovely. Even better than we had remembered it. The comfortable seating, low but elegant music in the background, fresh and inventive food... All of it made for a beautiful date night with my husband.
I chose this restaurant because it was recommended to use the Open Table dining certificate, it offered a 1,000 point bonus, and neither my husband nor I had been before. I reserved a spot to celebrate a work milestone for my husband. -We chose to sit at the open kitchen bar to watch the line cooks, the chef, and the action in the pizza oven. We had 4 glasses of wine, a cheeseburger, an order of fries, and a pizza. The food was good, but lacked seasoning in a big way. I was especially looking forward to the house ground burger, but without the right amount of salt, it was lackluster. -The vibe from the open kitchen was uncomfortable. The kitchen was operating at an easy pace, but line cooks weren't interacting or smiling at all. -The waiter did not appear to be very interested in serving us. He rarely came around, only offered the most expensive of menu suggestions, and didn't bother to acknowledge my husband's accomplishment until he delivered my credit card slip when he said, "Oh yeah, congratulations on the sale." -Lastly, in the middle of dinner I received an email from Open Table that said my reservation was canceled. I visited the host stand and asked why my reservation was canceled while I was literally in the restaurant. The host apologetically explained that the chef requires that reservations be cancelled if the customer sits at the open kitchen bar during happy hour because he has to pay $3/ person for the 1,000 point promotion. Luckily Open Table rectified the issue after I spoke to them. -All in all, it was a disappointing evening. I don't treat my husband to dinner out very often, only about 4 our 5 times a year when he makes a sale at work. For us, it's a special evening whether we choose to sit and watch the open kitchen, or we sit in the formal dining room. I've seen this restaurant while shopping at the Biltmore, and I always thought it was a high class establishment. After dining there, it feels like it's struggling just to hang on.
We've been going to Christopher's for years. Food is always excellent. There is a good variety, so there is something for everyone. But, nothing is typical. Yes, there is mac-n-cheese, but it's like no other mac-n-cheese you've ever had. Unique pizza's, great salads. Everything is fresh and expertly prepared.
Excellent wine list as well.
Atmosphere is casual with a touch of elegance. Staff is professional, but not stuffy. A nice place for a special meal, a date, or if you just want something a step up from the usual.
We return time and time again ....
The atmosphere was relaxed and lovely, and the wait staffs charming and helpful. Our appetizer was delicious, but very rich. My husband loved the lamb chops, but changed the sauce, as he not a curry fan. I found that the blood orange sherbet was a great palate cleanser, but my husband had to have the Banana Foster"s sushi dessert to satisfy his sweet tooth! Yum!
We attended the restaurant for Phoenix Restaurant Week. The space is divided into intimate sections, making it a quiet and cozy environment. The food and wine pairings were outstanding. Everything smelled and tasted so utterly delicious that we will certainly return for special occasions. The onion soup was the best ever, the bread and butter marvelous, and everything perfectly prepared and presented. Deserves all the accolades.
We once again had a great evening here; here it goes way beyond just the meal. Excellent non-rushed and unobtrusive service, very knowledgeable. We had a scallop app with a sprinkling of caviar...wowie! Entrees were the roasted chicken breast (super juicy) and the duck confit (with leg & thigh) both perfectly prepared and presented. Grab seats around the open kitchen if you want a perfectly entertaining evening. Highly recommended!
p.s. Warning! They will put house baked crusty bread with some kind of super ridiculous butter right under your very nose at this crazy place! Be strong, do not eat more than 6-7 servings or you will have them put your confit directly into the take-out bag.
Very disappointing restaurant week dinner. The onion soup was sweet tasting and not very hot. My sea bass was tasteless. Could not taste any hint of lemon in the scant amount of sauce. My cheese plate was good. There were hardly any diners and the waiter took way too long to bring drinks. When we asked for 5 min to decide on ordering he came back in 20! We won't be back.
We went for restaurant week. it had ben years since we ate at Christopher's and wanted to get reacquainted with the restaurant. The menu options for restaurant week were wonderful. My guest had the flank steak and I had the duck. Both were prepared to excellence. The appetizers and deserts were great as well. the restaurant was very busy but the service was excellent.
