Christopher Daniel - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Had a 12:30pm lunch reservation for 6 people, confirmed on Open Table. When the group arrived, the parking lot was very empty and there was a sign on the door saying Closed due to Private Party. No phone call to tell the group they were closed, no email via Open Table. Made a quick phone reservation at another local restaurant. From all I have been reading about Christopher Daniel, I'm not surprised. Ugly ending to what used to be my favorite local restaurant.
I hate to give a bad review, the night that we were there we waited at the hostess station foe 15 minutes. The waitress came over and said honestly that we wouldn't get good service, which I really admired. The were in the weeds, and some of their staff didn't show up, they had more walk ins then expected. Just to be fair.
We made a reservation for 7pm. We arrived at 6:55, and no one was at the front desk to seat us until 7:20. We did not see a waiter until 7:30 and did not get menus until 7:35. When we finally got water, everyone's glass was full of stuff floating. After waiting for 15 minutes, we decided to leave. We saw a hand written sign on the front door as we were leaving saying the restaurant was closed. There was one server for the whole restaurant. Last time we visited there, after we ate dinner we saw a mouse run around the dining room.
This is the only negative review we have ever written for Christopher Daniel. We made a reservation through Open Table which was accepted for early Monday. We arrived and the restaurant was closed. Another party arrived at the same time to celebrate a friend's birthcay; they too had made a reservation. There was no posted explanation for the closure.
When we arrived at 5:30pm there was no one to greet us or anyone in sight. The restaurant was empty. After a brief time we were greeted and seated. While waiting for the waitress to bring our drink order we saw a mouse run across the floor. I suspect this restaurant will not be open much longer. The wine list only has a few of the listed wines. Many of the entrees were not available to order. The bread was rock hard, stale. If we had not had a gift certificate to use we would have walked out. At least two other tables of folks who came in after us left before ordering. There was only one waitress and she also was food runner and maître d'. Very disappointing for a restaurant that was once at the top of my list.
The lunch experience was strictly D minus. I met a friend at the restaurant. My side of the white tablecloth had a very obvious food stain on it, which the hostess quickly covered with my napkin. I went to look at what used to be a pretty good wine list; about one-third of the wines had been highlighted by hand with a pink highlighter. I confirmed that the highlighted wines were the only ones they had. I ordered one of the lunch specials, mahi-mahi with coconut shrimp. The mahi-mahi had no seasoning. It tasted like they pulled it out of a 2-lb freezer bag and threw it in the microwave. No taste. Part of it was dried out; overcooked. On the same plate I got two good sized shrimp that looked like maybe they were steamed. No coconut. I noted that they were supposed to be coconut, and the busboy took the shrimp back into the kitchen. A few seconds later (literally) our server came back with the shrimp to tell us they had no coconut shrimp. The haricot verts were undercooked. It's a shame; Christopher Daniel used to be a really nice restaurant. A few years ago I got some lobster mac and cheese there as a side, and I STILL remember it. It was amazing. I don’t know what happened, but something definitely went wrong somewhere.
This was my third trip here. The first two times the meal was excellent. This time I ordered the same item I had ordered last time - 6 oz tenderloin. I asked for medium, it was well done. The yukon gold mashed potatoes, which were delicious the last time I was here, in January 2017, were flavorless and cold. The waiter offered to get me a new tenderloin, but we had already waited a considerable amount of time for our meal and I did not want to wait. Even though I alerted the waiter to the problems, no manager ever came to the table and apologized and there was no attempt made to make up for the shortcomings. I will not be back.
Don't think they will be around much longer. At the bar they were out of the first four things we ordered. Bartender stated they were out or low of a lot. They were out of the first two wines we ordered. We had dinner at 5pm and were the only people there (only three people in the bar). When we left after 6pm we were still the only people there. There were only a few tables set for dinner. Used to be a pretty popular spot. Looks kind of shaky now.
Christopher Daniel always pleases. It is a very good restaurant that has delicious food at good value. It is an upscale, white tablecloth restaurant with creative cuisine and generous portions.
If you are just dining out, this should be your choice in the Lutherville, Timonium and Cockeysville area. If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, graduation or just anything in particular, this is the place to come. You will be pleasantly surprised.
Great food, not so good ambiance. We asked for a table away from the kitchen. We got a booth right outside of the kitchen door. As we walked into the restaurant, we found the hostess water bottle on top of the welcome desk along with her feet. We decided to still give it a try in hopes the food met our expectations and it exceeded it. Thank God!
We were a family of four . the appetizers were right out of a frozen bag...the meal was terrible what were the cooks doing as the fish over cooked? Then the waitress who is not new didn't care at all about her job slow, invisible , and the best help came from the kitchen staff who had to bring out the plates. Another place that we wont go back to.
We came here for a business lunch. The food was good, although the service was a bit spotty. It was somewhat dark in our room, but then, a view of the parking lot isn't all that appealing. I would come again, if I lived nearby.
We have been patrons on various occasions throughout the past 5-8 years with various friends and relatives. Unfortunately, I feel the overall quality has taken a hit. The tablecloth was wrinkled as if it were at the bottom of a laundry bin, and one of the napkins actually had lipstick stains on it. It was folded like the others when we were seated. I will say the tenderloin of beef was exceptional and very nicely done. The haricot vert were not just al dente, but hardly cooked at all... very hard to cut with a knife. My husband had the scallops, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Overall though I have to say I was disappointed that Christopher Daniels seems to have lost its polish.
Unfortunately, Christopher Daniel may have seen its, best days. Used to dine here frequently for business and personal. Restaurant looks "tired" and needs refurbishing. Even though it was a Friday, there were very few diners and the large dining room was "curtained off"; according to the hostess, it isn't used much, since they are not busy at lunch anymore. Our server was pleasant, but we had to ask for salt/pepper, sugar/sweetener, freshly ground pepper (which was just handed to us, with no offer to grind it into the olive oil), and, additional water. The food was okay, but not up to CD's standards in visits past. Sadly, I probably will not return, unless the owners make some drastic improvements. Such a shame, as it was once a great spot.
Generic food, very slow service and dirty facilities. My husband and I went here the Saturday after Valentine's day for our date night and were disappointed. The BBQ shrimp app was sweet with what tasted like bottled sauce and overwhelmed by big slabs of undercooked sliced onion. I had the filet which was fine and cooked perfectly, but the blue cheese mashed potatoes had no flavor and the string beans were dripping in butter or oil. The halibut was dry and overcooked. It also took 45 minutes for us to get our entrees after our app was cleared. The menu was so boring and entree options were limited.
This place is straight out of 1998. Bathroom had tiles missing and pipes and wires exposed. One sink was broken and just had water pouring out of it. Tried to turn it off but the handle broke off.
The restaurant has good food however if you have a Groupon you are treated differently . I know some people don't know how to tip when they have one but I didn't appreciate the lack of service after I said that I had one . Don't advertise on Groupon if your servers become snobs after it is presented . I must say our last waitor did not do this last night but the 2 prior to this visit did ! Otherwise the food is good .
Definitely not worth the price. Customer service was good but I question the cleanliness of the establishment due to seeing a mouse running in the dining room. The waitresses did not seem surprised or interested by the knowledge of this either. I would not recommend this restaurant.
Not casual like their slogan suggest. We came casual but felt under dress. Three out of four got the crab cakes sandwich with the lobster Mac and cheese. Lobster Mac and cheese was so over priced for the small amount you received. Service was so slow. Felt like the food could of been better since the prices were so high.
Me and my fiance took my daughter there for her 16th birthday.. We had a great time. The service was great the food was wonderful. I will be taking my mother there on Sunday to experience there jazz music for brunch... Do recommend this place for any occasion.
Nothing can describe the disgust and feeling of time and money waisted after visiting this establishment.Whether it's a lazy waitress who couldn't remember the kind of wine ordered or promissed to get in the baked potato prior to the main course and never delivered on it or general neglect to serve patrons with a resemblance of positivity and readiness to please. Most importantly:the quality of food and service are in glaring disconnect with prices and the advertised value.
This was my first time at Christopher Daniel. We went on a "date night" for Restaurant Week and had the four course meal. The portions were reasonable for the fixed price and everything was delicious. The people next to us were very loud, and one of the female patrons was both loud, drunk and pretty obnoxious. It was much better once they left. I would not recommend this for a "real" date. It's very family oriented and an older clientele, but great for families. I liked the food but do not think I would go back. I did not like the strip mall setting and the loud patrons. It had a very cafeteria feel. The server was very nice and provided good service.
I was a little disappointed with this restaurant. All the reviews have voted this restaurant at the top of the list for dining in this area. Honestly, I can't see that. I can go around the corner to my staple, Bluestone, if I want top notch cuisine. I don't know if it was a step down because I had the Restaurant Week menu, but if it is good it should always be good. My scallops were not completely cooked, and the temp was not where it should have been. It seemed like it had been sitting for a while. My fish was bland. I expected a lot more flavor from the description on the menu. The best thing was the dessert, a peanut butter cookie with ice cream in the middle. It was good, but tapas size. I also don't think the staff was very attentive. We got our first course, but we didn't have any silverware. We tried to get the waiter's attention, but we ended up having to get up from the table to get his attention. I don't think I will be going back. It could have been an off night, but I don't want to be frustrated with a meal when I can be fully satisfied somewhere else.
We went for brunch on Sunday. It was so good. Lots of food choices, both breakfast and lunch options. The service was fantastic. They had a two musicians playing and it was really lovely, not too loud. My father doesn't get around too well, so the accommodated our request to sit closer to the buffet. I highly recommend their brunch.
