Japanese
Perfect For:
  • Good for a Date
  • Neighborhood Gem
  • Casual
In Japanese, "chotto" indicates a small unit of measure. An informal term used in a wide variety of casual situations among friends, chotto can mean "a little," "for a moment," "excuse me," or to soften the sound of a request.

Chotto's small, shareable plates are crafted using a combination of Japanese staple ingredients and fresh products from local farms, ranches, and fish markets, prepared using Japanese techniques and cooking methods.

Our beverage program is similar to our cuisine in that we will have a selection of "chotto" by the glass drinks. We will feature fresh, unique cocktails made with Japanese sake and shochu, as well as an international selection of wine and beer.

We tried a few different dishes, each better than the last. I have been a few other times, and truly enjoyed every thing I tried. The only downside can be the noise level. There was a very loud group there for happy hour that didn't care that it's a fairly small space, and they were quite disruptive. But overall, I think this is a great place.

The setting was great, a small cozy Japanes restaurant fit with the classic Sushi bar, plus an added hostess stand with friendly faces and an to the side and front with extra tables for overflow from the bar. The service was great and all the servers were very knowledgable on the menu and made great suggesstions for us. They were quick to help us put out 6months old stroller in back, so very kid/family friendly. Also Chef Ronnie is great and really knows what he is doing. Can't wait to go back

LOVE the spicy ramen and had been craving it for a few days. The sushi rolls (specifically Japonica and Spicy Tuna) are delicious and good size. Tried the uni risotto last night and it was also delicious and I'm new to the uni world. Happy hour is only at the bar, but definitely worth a visit.

If you're tired of "going out for sushi" and crave more of the cooked izakaya-style Japanese food, this is the place to go! The small tapas style dishes are mind-blowing. Their ramen there is absolutely delicious as well. We love all their different skewers, the raw dishes (personal favorite is the Uni Hotate), and everything else in between. If you're not sure what to order, there are a few "sampler" style options for their oysters as well as their skewers. I would give those a shot to get a small taste of everything.

Excellent food and service. The waiter was outstanding in making suggestions and adjusting small plates to accommodate the five of us. Everything we tried was delicious, but definitely save room for the sweet potato doughnuts with black sesame ice cream!

Hi - some of the food was excellent. The service was very inconsistent and in one case rude. I would be willing to give it a second try.

Overpriced and NOT good. Really disappointed. Bill was more than $100 for two people who had one beer each.

Our food and beverages were very good but the dinner was marred by a very inattentive server. Throughout the meal we had to make repeated requests and then the check included a pitcher of beer we had not ordered.

Went with a group of friends. Food was fantastic! Waiter was helpful and attentive. Also well versed on the finite details of the menu. Great experience overall. Only downfall is that we ate late and some of the dishes we wanted were already sold out.

Great place to go with a group! Must try the bacon wrapped mochi and mentaimo. We also loved the arugula beet sarada. We recommend the kakuni over the butta belly. Leave room for dessert so you can try the mini donut - so yummy!

Wow, what an eye-opening experience! This was my first time at an Izakaya place; I went with my wife and a guest from Switzerland. We had the flight of Shōchū (a first for us), which we enjoyed tremendously. Then we shared about 10 dishes, all of which were spectacularly delicious. It's hard to pick ones out from the others, but the pork belly, the beef tongue and the calamari deserve special mention.

I highly recommend this restaurant, and I'll be sure to come back!

We went for the uni hotate and they did not have it sorr that already ruined it fo r us. The beef tongue was good, the ribs too sweet and the ramen just ok. Nothing to rave about. Also the portions were too small so when they say for sharing,it wont work. The price too expensive, service slow, food hit or miss. Wont go back again.

Food excellent; waitstaff super friendly; restaurant clean/nicely dressed, get a reservation. This was our first visit, but not our last. It's a small space so it's a little crowded and loud. Would have given it 5 stars, but I'm really perticular about waiting when I have reservations. To bypass this issue go late; but beware, they run out of menu items--but have many other yummy choices. Management really needs to hire a host/ess to man reservations. The waitstaff does it and it seems the reservations easily overlap; add walk-ins to the equation and it gets messy. The bar is for seating, so there isn't an area to have a drink and wait for your table. Our server was great and made up for any inconvenience with a gratis sake

Loved the raw food but the salads were only ok, too much dressing for my taste. Went on a Monday night with dear friends and was perfect ambiance - enough people to feel alive but quiet enough to enjoy a great conversation with little distraction. Server was friendly and eager but a bit spacey. Overall would most definitely go back.

Our server was very pleasant and fun. We spent Mother's Day here and enjoyed their hot sake. Their bacon mochi was different yet tantilizing. Take their recommendations if you really can't decide what to get. We ordered 6 different plates and it was very satisfying.

Great idea for a Japanese "tapas" restaurant.

Should have gone to a regular sushi place instead. Felt ripped off when we ordered several items plus the bluefin tuna sashimi. Turned out the tuna was $29--about 3X the cost of anything else on the menu. Limited "creative" menu--not a sushi restaurant. We did like the grilled steak cubes on a skewer.

I took my parents and a few friends out for dinner and we decided to share all the food and started out with a few plates, but ended up getting the entire menue and absolutely loved every dish. It was nice not having a huge selection of sushi but instead got to enjoy a wide variety of tasty dishes. The sake list was also incredible, and having one of the private rooms in the back was iciing on the cake. Id reccomend Chotto for any occassion and will absolutely be heading back.

Excellent experience. Our server, Adam, was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the food and beverages. Each dish was well prepared and presented beautifully. The raw seafood tasted very fresh. The grilled food had a perfect char which, for this cuisine, was as important as any of the seasonings. the pricing was reasonable for japanese food in the Marina. We had four alcoholic beverages and a shared dessert came to $45 per person, which was a mild surprise. Please keep the pricing reasonable. The dessert of the sweet potato (i think?) donut holes and sesame ice cream was excellent. Keep up the original recipes and Adam's warm and attentive service and we will be back again soon.

This was our second time back to Chotto, this time with two kids in high chairs. The wait staff was kind enough to seat us in their "private" dining area that was semi closed off from the rest of the restaurant. This meant that the kids, 3 and 2, were able to focus on eating with us instead of communing with the other patrons. The food was out of this world, just as we remembered it. Those corn fritters and fried mushrooms are to die for and let's not forget the giant grilled squid and pork belly. The raw fish was fantastic as well. Even liked the sea urchin!!!

The food here is amazing! Try the specials since it's different every day and depends on what kind of fish or meat is available for the day. The food creations are quite interesting but very very tasty. Try the bacon mochi!
