New Year's Eve Special Menus & Offers
We will be featuring a special NYE dinner not to be missed

Made reservations (for like 11:30p, but, still...there was a reservation). Arrived a few min early. Seated in a mostly-empty dining room. Got ignored for >15 minutes while the host/waiter person socialized with other tables while dodging our pleading eye contact. So we left and got decent service elsewhere (Mua is also open late...and was still packed. Probably because their service is good!)
Thank you fro hosting our team lunch. The space was perfect for what we needed. Food and service were great!
Always a great spot in the neighborhood.
Really great food and cocktails. The mussels were outstanding. The noise level, though, was such that we had to shout at each other to be heard.
Cool place and good food. Very accommodating to our to our large group!
Chop Bar is in a new location about a block from the old location.
Some window coverings over the large glass panel windows would help dampen the noise level.
The menu is loud and in charge too, but very well prepared and tasty.
I wasn't planning on proposing to my now fiance', but the moment seized me and I went ahead with it.
Received congratulatory applause from about 100 of the Chop Bar customers and a round of Bubbles on the house from the staff. Really nice...!
All in all, had a wonderful time, which we will never forget.
Inside was so hot and so loud that we opted for an outside table, even on a somewhat chilly evening (no heaters outside but we were desperate to talk to our dinner guests). Service was pleasant when we had it, but long periods of time went without anyone checking on us. Waited about 45 minutes for our four entrees (burgers - so good!) but given the long wait I'm not sure we'll rush back anytime soon.
Went to the Chop Bar for an anniversary brunch. Seating for two is limited to specific tables too close together at the rear of the dining area, or next to a wall. My polenta was too soupy and was lacking flavor and spices. My wife ordered a dish with poached eggs. They brought her the dish with over easy eggs, of which she was okay with. However, the server came back and told her they brought someone else’s order and gave her the dish with poached eggs. The dish was cold and the eggs were hard. Very disappointing. She sent it back and they gave her a new dish, but the experience was lost and we both ate at separate times. We were looking forward to the food since it had great reviews, but walked out disappointed and unsatisfied. Hope others have a better experience. We won’t be going back.
We had a fabulous dinner at Chop Bar. Everything was superb, especially the mussel dish - the soup base was beyond delicious! We so enjoyed everything and the service was delightful. We will surely be back!
With friends our drinks, appetizers, entree’s, and dessert were excellent. We’ll be back for sure. No misses so be sure to put this on your list.
The food was o.k but the service was horrible. Arriving at the host stand we were ignored until we finally interrupted the hostess/waitress on duty. She seated us and said waters were on the way. We had to signal her two times and ask again until we finally got them. She took drink orders and wanted to take food orders at the same time. We said we preferred to wait for our drinks and enjoy them for a while before ordering. Drinks took forever to arrive even though the restaurant was not that busy. Only one of our party thought their drink was pretty good. Might go there again for food but not drinks. After getting the drinks she totally ignored us and we finally had to get her to come back to take our order. She never checked to see if food was o.k. After giving us dessert menus she never came back and we had to call her to the table to get our check. We had a 7:30 reservation, only ordered drinks and entrees and didn't pay the bill until 10:00. Terrible lack of service.
Host 'lost' our reservation, every detail was missed: wasn't clean, food came out with major issues (bad fish, old salmon patties, cold meals, etc.), dirty bathrooms, unapologetic/aggressive server... Unfortunately just a really rare and bad eating experience in the Bay
The Chop Bar recently moved to a wonderful new location in the same area of Oakland. The menus (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are extensive with nice specials in addition to the regular fare and all three of us had very good meals. The staff is both very friendly and professional and the atmosphere is excellent. We will return soon!
We had lunch and were able to sit outside. Made for a nice, relaxing meal. Lunch choices are pretty limited but varied enough to satisfy everyone. Pear crisp dessert was very good.
Excellent Embarcadero community location! Great owners ! Great Oakland Economic Development Partner !!!
Menu was wrong so we ordered something which came out with totally different ingredients (pork vs fish). They said they'd comp for the issue but instead only comped for the original meals which were incorrect-until we objected. Service was friendly but slow. Ordered two drinks which were on menu but also not available. If the menu is printed each day - how can it be so wrong?
Customer service was really bad. Felt like they were all over the place
Awesome guacamole and margaritas! Food not so much. Huge group at a communal table and we could not hear each other 20 feet away.
I think they kept forgetting us and our order. We kept having to ask for everything and everyone else's table were eating long before we got our food. Two old ladies not drinking maybe.
Service was atrocious, and it doesn't feel like it's a one-off, just more how they are normally. Our waiter seemed more interested in his man-bun than any patrons, and it was a combination of highly condescending and highly incompetent service. Won't be returning.
I’ve been here before and enjoyed it, but this time there was a black hair in my food...(and none of the friends eating with me have black hair)
A very friendly place—we had brief but pleasant chats with the occupants of our nearby tables—but very slow and uninspired service, and average food, very short on vegetables and salads, in particular. The pickled veggie appetizer was bland with grey, over cooked green beans and hard as rocks carrots—nothing else. Mussels ok and pork ribs seemed good. Bar made a smashingly good old-fashioned!
Oh how I miss the lovely ambience of the former location !
Our waiter the young student was great but food is just OK.
Needs a round table for groups. Current seating is essentially picnic tables. Not as cozy as the prior place. Moreover, they lost the indoor/outdoor ambiance. Food is still great.
Went there with a group of friends for brunch. None of us were impressed by the food. I was hungry again shortly after we left the restaurant. I would have ordered the huevos rancheros but they don't serve it with extra tortillas so had pork belly hash. Pork was tasty but there wasn't much of it. They did a nice job with the strong Coffee. I would not recommend for breakfast / brunch.
Got together with friends. Everything was decent. We have fond memories at the old location and the new location doesn’t quite measure up.
I took my real estate clients who had just sold a home with me so we could celebrate. It was their first time at Chop Bar and they loved the food & the ambiance. Neither of them is a drinker so the bartender concocted a wonderful mocktail for them. I was thrilled with the new space and will return again soon to have more of the mussels. They were out of this world, as was the heirloom tomato salad!
Chop Bar is a real favorite of ours. We’ve been going there for years- we live a block away- and we’re never disappointed. Great staff.
It SO LOUD inside and we had to move outside. Our party of 5 ordered 4 different meals and all except for one had no favor. However, drinks were delicious and I thought it was okay priced for the amount of food on my plate. I hear they are doing something regarding the noise but hopefully the seasoning for food will also improve.
Very LOUD. Need some sound baffles or something. Hard to have a conversation. Otherwise very nice.
Good good. It uneven. Very loud, not good for visiting with family.
Love the new space and brunch menu
We loved the old Chop Bar! The new location lacks the lovely, funky ambience that made Chip Bar what it is (was). The food and staff is still outstanding, but we miss the funkiness. Maybe they will find a way to break up the big, really boomy room, too.
I think they are adjusting to their new location. I hope that’s what it is... I had a burger which is usually good but was presented well done (ordered medium), came w/out a bun but I ordered it w/out bacon and I had fries for extra$$ but not a single fry was longer than 2 inches.
Just a bunch of small mishaps with service too that made it less than satisfying. This may have been a result of service by committee- I think we had 5 or 6 different people tending to us.
I’ll wait a few months and try again
Everything looked and tasted like it was prepped three days before.
When the food is poor, as in oysters are not fresh and the hamburger bun disintegrates not good. I very rarely give bad reviews but this poor dining experience calls for it.
I didn’t enjoy the new place. I like the old place better. Service wasn’t that great today. And they don’t serve the oxtail over fries, which was the reason we came, for lunch anymore. But my mussels are yummy!
And there was a server who kept passing by our area and she was really stinky! I had to hold my breath every time!
Horrible service. Took 2 hours for burgers
We sat outside as I had my pups with me. The initial greeter was a bit stand-offish but our waiter was fantastic. The menu has a few price increases post move to the new location making drinks a bit expensive during regular service but at happy hour there are select cocktails for $6 about 40% off the regular price. We had a few appetisers including the happy hour sampler. Very good as always. Pricier now though for regular meals so if you are on a budget this is a special occasion place and happy hour is a better deal.
