Lunch buffet is always fantastic, even if you arrive 30 mins before they take it down. And they usually bring a couple tandoori chicken wings or some other little app to the table. I had a friend visiting NY and she said she hadn't had "good Indian food in forever"... I took her here and she was very happy.
Great place for a terrific Indian buffet
So attentive, my water glass was refilled so promptly. The staff too great care of clearing the table and cleaning and crumbs off after the meal they we're the perfect balance of care and allowing us to enjoy our meal.
The food was wonderful and presentation so delightful. I loved they had gluten free bread options.
I would absolutely dine here again in a heartbeat!
We love Chola! Every time we go, we say it’s the best Indian. And we’ve gone quite often!! The service is great and it’s always a comfortable energy. Highly recommend!!
Came around 2:15-30 for lunch buffet. A few items were close-to-finished and not replaced. Selection was decent, but I would’ve liked to see a few other spicier items.
The food here is absolutely delicious. The Chutneywalla is outstanding. The service is a little sketchy. The are friendly but slow.
Visiting NYC and went to some great places. Wanted to check the box on Indian food and this place happened to be in the right neighborhood for where we were at the time and had a solid NYT review from 20 yrs ago. We weren't expecting much from a place with a buffet. But we were pleasantly surprised at how great the food was and how attentive the staff was. I wouldn't seek it out again but would go there often if I worked nearby
This was such a yummy find! I was very impressed from beginning to end. I’d definitely come back!
It was hard finding an Indian Restaurant near Astoria, NY. Luckily, I came across Chola. I was looking for something fancy and appealing for my boyfriend's birthday. I was a bit afraid to try this place out because regardless of how fancy a place may look, looks are often quite deceiving. Our visit turned out better than I expected. The restaurant consisted of highly professional and friendly staff that greeted us and did not rush us (Unlike many other restaurants) when closing hour was near. As for the food, it was amazing and affordable, price was expected. The restaurant had the perfect cozy environment, quite fancy actually for something affordable in Manhattan. During my visit it seemed as if people from businesses came together to eat out. It is not your typical Desi (South Asian- Pakistani, Bengali, or Indian people) environment. Majority of the people were not Indian or South Asian so that meant the food really must be that great if it is attracting people from different cultures.
Great authentic food, good service. They care, and that makes a difference.
Good authentic dishes but not spectacular. Very accommodating with off-menu items they previously served. Wait and table staff were attentive and prompt with their service.
If you're looking for a high-quality Indian brunch buffet at an excellent price, Chola can't be beat, especially in Midtown East which can be pricey. Great selection of Indian staples (chicken tikka masala, paneer saag, etc.) at a fixed price. Only gripe: not many appetizers.
Chicken tiki masala fabulous. Add rice that was wonderful light
My boyfriend & I went to Chola to indulge in some much-appreciated Indian food. We've been long-time lovers of one spot in the East Village but are now located in Midtown East & wanted to go somewhere nearby. The service was excellent, and the food was absolutely delicious! We got two entrees, coconut rice, and mango lassi- all were delicious!
My second time and I loved it again. Service is wonderful.
Never disappoints! Best Indian food in NYC!
We've been to Chola many times and it never disappoints. The food is amazing, the staff works hard and I have never felt like I've waited or wanted something when there. Most recent dining, we asked for brown basmati rice since we're off refined white and they accommodated us. I can't ask for more. I highly recommend Chola!! (:
I think that Chola is either under new management or has a new chef. The food had no taste which is very unusual for Indian food. The last time we ate there perhaps a month ago, the food was exceptionally spicy. I will not eat there again.
With delicious food and ambiance, this restaurant was delightful for everyone in our party...
I have been there many times and have never been disappointed in the food or the service!!!
Great space, great service, great food - my favorite place in NYC for Indian cuisine
Food was mediocre and so was the service. Complete letdown
They have the best Indian food around. Everything always prepared exactly as ordered and willing to customize if want to change some ingredients. The service is very friendly and attentive. Everyone I have recommended it to has thanked me for passing it along. Highly recommend for great Indian food at reasonable prices.
Delicious food and atmosphere!!! We all had a great time!
Delicious food and really nice caring and helpful service.
Chola's uncommon 5PM opening time allowed for a relaxed pre-concert feast. The eagerly helpful waiters were closely supervised by their manager, Nisar, who noted the dietary restrictions (allergies, no dairy, no gluten) of several members of our party, and was able to suggest items which either already met our needs, or could be modified to meet these needs, under his direction, without sacrificing flavor and subtlety. Particularly delicious was Chingri Malai Curry, spiced prawns in coconut milk, and Lamb Dhansak, prepared with lentils, tamarind, and spinach. Prices were reasonable, except for the overpriced wine list, which was not up to the very high standards of the entrees.
Thank you! Great place, food, and service! I would def recommend this place and would come again! Great for sunday brunch!
very warm welcome by a really nice family
healthy and tasty food
This was my first time at this restaurant. I found it through opentable. I like Indian curries , ordered chicken tikka masala, it was very delicious, served in a nice way. Atmosphere of the restaurant was nice. It looked like they care about being tidy and clean. Overall liked it very much. I will visit it again to try other meals !
All good things come to an end. Haven’t been here for a few years and it’s not the same restaurant except in name. Menu was unfamiliar, ( not even the same as on the website), food was totally different. The rich wonderful Indian food no more. One appetizer looked and tasted Chinese! The library wallpaper was strange, the new decor reminds me of restaurants in suburban malls. Maybe that is the new direction, more hybrid, more Americanized. Staff was cordial and helpful, but I think I have to cross it out from my list after all these years, c’est la vie.
