Chocolat Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
The main thing here was there reservation policy. Although I made a reservation for 2p and all of my party was there at 2p, we were not seated until 2:30p. I spoke with the hostess and she claimed that the reservation doesn't really hold your spot but it gives them an idea of who will be coming. So that was a bit disappointing. Other than that the food was good and our waiters service was great.
We went to Sunday brunch for my mother’s birthday and she loved it! My dad had a good time my little brother didn’t have any complaints which is a big deal! My mimosa glass was NEVER empty. Our waiter was very attentive and the food was delicious. They played 90’s R & B and we were all groovin’. Halfway through our meal they did turn up the music too loud and that’s my only complaint.
On two different occasions, I've tried the shrimp & grits and the red velvet pancakes w/ the southern fried chicken.. enjoyed both dishes however the chicken & red velvet pancakes was better. Hands down. Much more filling. Also enjoyed the fact that I didn't have to wait long for the mimosa refills; a definite plus!!
I plan to visit again but during the evening. So I'll see how that goes. The place tends to get crowded quick.
I am big on supporting black-owned anything, but especially good food spots. I live in BK and my brothers live in BX. We struggle to get together, but on 10/21, we laughed, cried, drank, ate and bonded. Thank you Chocolat family for creating the atmosphere to facilitate that. Big up the DJ too!
We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday. When I walked in the greeter and the manager were very friendly but the server and service was horrible. There was lipstick on my friends glass, it took a very long time to clean off the table from the appetizers, we had to flag the waiter down several times for either water, or additional items. The appetizers were good but the main courses were ok. I was disappointed that my steak lacked flavor, no garlic butter as advertised, they ok Mac and cheese. During dinner there was suppose to be a waiter and a trainee but none of them were attentive or around. Additionally it took another hour to bring a check and we ended bringing our credit cards up because no one came back to take payment. They over charged our cards and when we mentioned it the server seemed bothered. The manager said that they could refund the difference and offered drinks but the damage was already done. I had everyone drive from Long Island to Harlem because my husband had a great experience 5 years ago. I guess 5 years things got worst not better.
It pains me to write this review because I have been to Chocolat years ago and enjoyed it. The food quality has gone down considerably. The fried chicken appeared to be from frozen drumettes and was obviously not fresh. The cheddar grits were gummy and too cheesy. We were a party of four and no one finished their meal. It was so disappointing and it took a ridiculously LONG time to get our meal, which was surprising since there were only 2 other small tables occupied. The wait staff service was very friendly and very attentive. I wish Chocolat would hire a top chef, bring in fresh ingredients, restore the food quality and for goodness sake, you should be presenting only the best fried chicken available, especially since you bill yourself as a soul food restaurant. 🙁
Brunch was nice but it was a little annoying that I had to explain my order over 3 times. I simply wanted an egg WHITE omelette. I would assume, the omelette would be made the same but just with egg WHITES.
The order finally was done correctly only for me to charged as if I had ordered a WHOLE other side dish?!
I am used to paying a little extra ($1-$2) more when I order egg WHITES, but $6 extra? Seems a bit much if you ask me.
I love Chocolat. We were celebrating my aunt's 87th birthday! The food was delicious. Service was excellent. HOWEVER! The music was so incredibly loud. We asked several times if they could turn it down. I saw the server speak to the manager each time we asked (respectfully) The manager turned it down a little. It was so distracting and we could not converse, which is what people do at dinner. Also, some of the music being played was inappropriate. We were thoroughly annoyed.
I feel the manager was not accommodating. It is a restaurant not a club. Ugh!!!!!!!
