The biggest negative is the music is way too loud. It’s almost impossible to have a conversation. This is really unfortunate because the food is pretty good. But they have to decide if they want to be a night club or a restaurant.

We went to Sunday brunch for my mother’s birthday and she loved it! My dad had a good time my little brother didn’t have any complaints which is a big deal! My mimosa glass was NEVER empty. Our waiter was very attentive and the food was delicious. They played 90’s R & B and we were all groovin’. Halfway through our meal they did turn up the music too loud and that’s my only complaint.

The grits seemed to be warmed up from yesterday. English muffins were cold and no butter or jam til we requested. The Hollandaise sauce had no flavor. Coffee was brought with no cream. Disappointing.

On two different occasions, I've tried the shrimp & grits and the red velvet pancakes w/ the southern fried chicken.. enjoyed both dishes however the chicken & red velvet pancakes was better. Hands down. Much more filling. Also enjoyed the fact that I didn't have to wait long for the mimosa refills; a definite plus!!
I plan to visit again but during the evening. So I'll see how that goes. The place tends to get crowded quick.

I am big on supporting black-owned anything, but especially good food spots. I live in BK and my brothers live in BX. We struggle to get together, but on 10/21, we laughed, cried, drank, ate and bonded. Thank you Chocolat family for creating the atmosphere to facilitate that. Big up the DJ too!

Decent food but our server was a complete novice. He tried but compared to the other restaurants in the neighborhood, this turned a decent dining experience into what we found to be an experiment.

We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday. When I walked in the greeter and the manager were very friendly but the server and service was horrible. There was lipstick on my friends glass, it took a very long time to clean off the table from the appetizers, we had to flag the waiter down several times for either water, or additional items. The appetizers were good but the main courses were ok. I was disappointed that my steak lacked flavor, no garlic butter as advertised, they ok Mac and cheese. During dinner there was suppose to be a waiter and a trainee but none of them were attentive or around. Additionally it took another hour to bring a check and we ended bringing our credit cards up because no one came back to take payment. They over charged our cards and when we mentioned it the server seemed bothered. The manager said that they could refund the difference and offered drinks but the damage was already done. I had everyone drive from Long Island to Harlem because my husband had a great experience 5 years ago. I guess 5 years things got worst not better.

It pains me to write this review because I have been to Chocolat years ago and enjoyed it. The food quality has gone down considerably. The fried chicken appeared to be from frozen drumettes and was obviously not fresh. The cheddar grits were gummy and too cheesy. We were a party of four and no one finished their meal. It was so disappointing and it took a ridiculously LONG time to get our meal, which was surprising since there were only 2 other small tables occupied. The wait staff service was very friendly and very attentive. I wish Chocolat would hire a top chef, bring in fresh ingredients, restore the food quality and for goodness sake, you should be presenting only the best fried chicken available, especially since you bill yourself as a soul food restaurant. 🙁

Brunch was nice but it was a little annoying that I had to explain my order over 3 times. I simply wanted an egg WHITE omelette. I would assume, the omelette would be made the same but just with egg WHITES.
The order finally was done correctly only for me to charged as if I had ordered a WHOLE other side dish?!
I am used to paying a little extra ($1-$2) more when I order egg WHITES, but $6 extra? Seems a bit much if you ask me.

I love Chocolat. We were celebrating my aunt's 87th birthday! The food was delicious. Service was excellent. HOWEVER! The music was so incredibly loud. We asked several times if they could turn it down. I saw the server speak to the manager each time we asked (respectfully) The manager turned it down a little. It was so distracting and we could not converse, which is what people do at dinner. Also, some of the music being played was inappropriate. We were thoroughly annoyed.

I feel the manager was not accommodating. It is a restaurant not a club. Ugh!!!!!!!

I was at the bar having a conversation with my friend and had my credit card in my hand. The bartender took it out my hand while I was talking to my friend. I thought that was a little rude, because it's not like I was holding it out to her or even facing her.

Food was excellent but the price points were too high. $5 difference between Shrimp and grits and NY steak platter. The difference should have been greater. The prices were not on the online menu. Had there been there my party might have chosen another venue.

I went for brunch with a friend visiting from out of town on 8/13/17. Even though we had reservations, we were told there were no tables available because all the current patrons had just been seated. When asked, the hostess couldn't give us an estimated wait time. Fortunately, they were able to accommodate us before we were forced to go elsewhere. I will say once that situation was corrected, the food was good and our server was excellent.

I went there with my cousin to catch-up and she suggested Chocolat it was a beautiful place with great energy. I enjoyed the waitress who was very good but it took a little while for us to get our drinks and the portions were small on the lamb chops. The food was very good. I'd like to go back again.

Early dinner for 2ppl- $220?!? Unrealistic. That was a $100 meal for 2 at best. Nothing special, nothing fancy. The drinks were good. Food has flavor. But the price tag was too high.(( Calamari: Fried shrimp: Cesar Salad: avocado salad: lamb chops with mash and spinach:shrimp and grits: 1 glass of sangria: 1: Bellini: 1 glass of sprite: cheese cake slice: chocolate cake slice)) did I mention anything worth $200 at 5:30pm?!? There are plenty of spots thru out Harlem where you get your money's worth. It's Resturant week and they don't participate. Yet there were no incentives to return. We could have went to the Supermarket, purchased all these items and still had $100 left over to spilt.

It was subpar. It was packed and tables are very close to one another so much so that your basically eating family style with strangers. We opted to sit at the bar, it then got empty our food didn’t come so we asked to move to a table now. Hostess said there was nothing that could be done because we ordered our food that didn’t come until 3 and we arrived at 2:20. So that was strike one. Strike two was that the chicken was nothing but chicken backs and bones if I’m paying 24-27 for chicken and pancakes I expect some damn chicken. Strike three was the hostess who was rude and on her phone. When I asked her a question she stuck her finger up at me and said I’ll come to you when I’m done. Seriously if your call is that much more important then doing your job, ask someone to cover for you.

I took my mother to Chocolate Restaurant & Lounge to celebrate her 75th Birthday. Our reservations were for 1:30 pm. The hostess (forgot name) was nice enough to take us early. For an early afternoon brunch the ambiance was just right. The one negative - the wait time for additional service. Meaning, when food and beverages were served we asked for condiments which took about 15 to 20 minutes to arrive. By then we no longer wanted the items. Disappointed, we decided to take the food home.

Side Note: If you want something "sweet" after your meal. Don't look for it here during brunch(bummer)...
