Chino Latino Ratings and Reviews
The food is fine -- not exceptional. Huge menu, but a smaller, more focused one with fewer options but more standout dishes would be better. What really makes this place irritating is the crowd it attracts -- lots of college kids and huge groups of loud 20-somethings drinking overpriced cocktails out of pineapples (literally). This place is trying so hard to be hip and NYC-esque. It's a cavernous space, very hard to have an intimate meal -- they seem to want a loud, chaotic atmosphere, like you're having dinner at a nightclub. The prices are also pretty outrageous even for the neighborhood. $17-20 for a single sushi roll? Seriously?
Also, a sign by the host stand says, literally, "My couch may pull out, but I don't" -- which is really obnoxious and offensive. Everything about this place is in poor taste and they seem weirdly proud of it.
Chino Latino is a fantastic restaurant for a get together with friends and family. The food is served family style, which is great because you can sample all types of food. The food also has amazing authentic flavor! Service was very quick and food came right away. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Came here with a group of friends for a birthday dinner. All of us were new to the experience and not one left unpleased. Portion sizes are fairly big and we all loved our food. Our server was great at helping us make decisions and she had great recommendations. Did not have to wait long for service or food. Overall a great dining experience!
I have come here on many occasions, mostly for happy hour but sometimes for dinner with larger groups. I will say the handle large parties very well - they are attentive and seating is pretty spacious. It's not like they try to cram a larger party at the same size table as a smaller one. Their service has always been great for me too.
Their drinks are all okay, I would recommend their mojito which is part of their happy hour special. I usually do mojitos with their sushi rolls for happy hour and consider that a great value. Dinner has always been a different story. Details usually get lost in drinks (not the same garnishing or flavors) and I find their menu overpriced for portions (of sushi in particular) and quality of food. It's 100% hit or miss. It's either very good or very bland which has been the case for me and my friends on multiple visits.
I'd say go during happy hour or for a large party if you have sampled the menu enough ahead of time - otherwise you may have some people in good spirits and others that are sorely disappointed.
I will start by saying our server was very knowledgeable and attentive which is a must. The Pupu Platter was overpriced, the pineapple it was served with was delicious but the ribs were too saucy. My wife got the orange chicken and thank goodness it was lightly breaded however those to were too saucy so much so that the fried rice and the sauce from the orange chicken mixed together blending the flavor profiles for you which must would prefer to do that themselves. We had the tacos and jerk wings for an appetizer, no complaints there I would recommend those and get those again.
There's definitely an excellent balance with the portions/chicken prices. When you start moving away from there you start paying for the flare and presentation. I'm not hating on Chino Latino I definitely go back but I would stick to more of the appetizers and chicken and rice dishes.
Celebrated my mom’s 50th Birthday at Chino and the staff was excellent! They helped coordinate a flower arrangement at the table and made sure my mom didn’t try to pay as well. Very attentive and wrapped up our custom menus for us as well. Great experience and service.
Went for an early dinner to introduce sister in law that just moved to the cities..great service and the food came out quickly and was tasty..esp the sushi platter..drinks are always fun here too! I do think it's a little spendy for what you get but Chino Latino is a staple restaurant in Uptown..always fun to go to for the ambiance! Overall we had a fun night
We went to Chino Latino for a family Birthday celebration. When we arrived it was not busy and we were sat by the doors/windows in the front. We noticed right away it was really cold and you could feel a draft/breeze. The only other people in that section were a woman and a young girl and the woman signaled her agreement that they to were freezing. My oldest son(31 years) decided to go ask the hostess that sat us if we could be moved. He came and said she didn't seem to happy to move us. He said she would check and see if she could move us and to take a seat at the table and wait. When she did come to us, she mumbled something about the other tables were for parties of 10 or more. There were many other different sized tables available. It was a Sunday evening at 5:00pm. We had 7 guests. She begrudgingly moved us one more table up. Again, the whole area was empty except for a table of 2. She really had a bad attitude. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive to us. The food was excellent as usual. The hostess could use an attitude adjustment. When we left there were still numerous tables open that would fit our party.
The food was fantastic and our server was excellent. This restaurant does family style food so everyone can share. We order three entrees for four people and had lots of delicious leftovers. It is always loud so definitely not a quiet spot for a first date or chill anniversary but everything else makes up for it. The food also came out within about seven minutes and was hot and fresh. Definitely recommend.
Dinner was delicious and the service was excellent. We ordered a small plate and a large plate to share - 1) the Bulgogi Lettuce Wraps and 2) the lamb shanks with couscous. Food was outstanding - great spices. And our server was friendly and helpful. The only drawback (and it wasn't a dealbreaker) is that this restaurant is so very noisy that we couldn't hear each other from across the table. Oh, well - the people watching made it all worthwhile! LOL
Good food! But A really confusing menu… I know that’s their claim to fame - having two different styles of cuisines all at once presented in a really cool and hip fashion. I get that and it works. However I really think $28 is Way too much for a bowl of pulled pork with rice and beans.
I have been to Chino many times and was very disappointed on this particular visit. When we arrived the hostess staff was very dis-organized we waited 25 minutes beyond our reservation and no one was concerned about it. Our server who was admittedly new kept telling us such and forgetting lots of things, including bad wine and bill charges that weren't supposed to be. Our table was not clean and gross. Our food was not normal Chino quality and we were just not that impressed with the service this time around.
We love having a place we can go in the late evening with a group. Our favorite dish is the Dragon Lady Rice with pork. It's delicious! We always try to have a group of six to ten at the table so we can serve family style and have tastes of lots of different dishes.
The food was delicious. We drove up from Des Moines Iowa for business and weren't leaving until we ate here. The server was hands down the best server we had. Made sure my allergies were addressed in both food & drink choices. Will be back when we are in town for sure.
Atmosphere was great especially with Halloween celebrations during the weekend, but the service was quite horrible. Waitress slammed drinks on table, almost spilled wine, never asked for re-fills on drinks, food came out at different times. I received mine first, but waited 20 minutes for my fiance's plate to arrive and by than my food was cold and than the waitress had a pretty bad attitude and almost dropped bill and fortune cookies on floor as well as another table received hot towels and we didn't not sure if that is upon request or just given at end of meal to clean up. had RSVP at 8:45 PM, but didn't leave until 11:30 due to service being slow.
We had a great waiter, super nice and fun to chat with. We were celebrating our 10 year anniversary and came back to the restaurant that we went to for our wedding reception all those years ago. The food was flavorful and fun and we enjoyed getting to go out on a rare date night.
