Chinato Ratings and Reviews
My boyfriend and I are both gluten free. Before we came to the restaurant he called to confirm that there were going to be gluten free options and deserts. The person on the phone acted like he knew what he was talking about and said there were many options for gluten free. We decided on this restaurant because we had the Cavs game at 7:00 He has ciliac disease and when we first got there he told our Waiter that he both were gluten free. He seemed to think it was a bit odd. Then when we were ordering my boyfriend asked about the meal because he said his meal was gluten free, yet there were fries on the menu. So my boyfriend questions about the fries and if they were truly gluten free, and the waiter says yes. He bring his meal, and the fries were fried. He then questions the worse about the fries and if they’re cooked in the same fryer as the normal fries. The waiter responds with yes. My boyfriend then tells him how that is not gluten Free. We then had to wait another 10 minutes while I finished my food for him to get his food back. Once he got his meal back, the chicken breast was so small. I knew that wasn’t even going to be nearly enough for him. (6’5 guy) So after all that was finished, he asks us if we want any desert and my boyfriend respond with is there any gluten free desert The waiter responded the only thing close to that it’s probably berries and yogurt. He wasn’t even sure himself. After all of this happened, my boyfriend was still hungry because what he got was such a small portion that it was not going to fill him. He then spoke to a manager and the manager offered to bring another meal. My boyfriend agreed because he did not want to go to the Cavs game hungry. Because of all this, we were late walking into the Cavs game, and did not leave the restaurant happy at all. I feel if they are going to tell people on the phone that there’s many gluten free options then need to better educate their employers about gluten free food and cross contamination.
The restaurant was very cold, plus the main meal was lukewarm. Plus the main meal was served within a few minutes of the appetizers when it was requested to be spaced. The server stated it was a restaurant policy to space the main meal order request by ten minutes. This was not done that evening. The meals order were the Zuppa and the Risotto.
We were seated downstairs in their overflow area. It was incredibly loud with TVs on the walls. Guests next to us talked loudly into his cell phone for at least 10 minutes. Fine for a sports bar, not a fine restaurant.
With the exception of the gentleman that served the wine, the server and food runners were completely unaware of the menu or how to serve restaurant guests. Normally, I would rave about their food, but this night it was just OK. I have removed it from my list of favorites.
Spotty service. Seems like only few people work while others are physically present. Our waitress was helpful and friendly. Food is just okay despite clear attempts to stand out with the menu items, that aren’t widely available at other places. Desert was excellent though!
My wife and I shared a romantic mid-week get-away to celebrate her birthday. We got a top luxury hotel downtown and selected Chinato after reviews from friends and location. I made reservations and specified it was my wife's birthday. Our reservations were honored, it was not the most private seating but ok. The food was outstanding the service was good. While there, my wife saw someone being honored for their birthday and was looking forward to hers. At the end of the meal, the waiter ask about deserts. I told him it was my wife's birthday (again stated at the time of the reservation). his response was- I make a really good cappuccino. So we left. The food was very good- but I wouldn't go for a special occasion.
Truly good Italian food is sometimes hard to find... but Chinato knocks it out of the park. Simple ingredients treated well and served fresh. I loved everything about the meal! We had a bottle of red, bread, appetizer, and assortment of entrees - all of which were excellent. I highly recommend the braised pork cheeks.
Very mediocre food along with the service we received. Gnocchi starter was well prepared with good flavor and texture. Tomato bread soup was dare I say terrible! Tasted like tomato sauce that belonged over a pasta dish- strange texture for soup and not good flavor at all. Entrees included brick chicken dish very bland and over cooked. Beef was just okay not memorable. Inexperienced servers led to overall disappointing dining experience. Will not return.
We made reservations months in advance to dine pre-concert. We arrived and we immediately asked to be done within 1 1/2 hours as there was another reservation for our table (which wasn’t a special request location table). We ordered and food was quickly prepared- we were given bill within an hour- we had to ask to have few minutes to order dessert. I’ve never felt rushed in finer dining so that was a disappointment- we told them we would be done within time frame to get to concert yet still felt rushed.
Very noisy....extremely rushed by waiter to order our meal. Asked us 3 or 4 times and we kept saying we are taking our time. Plus...the waiter never re poured our champagne after the first glass...my husband kept re-filling my friend and my glass. Appetizer was way to salty....told waiter and he did nothing. Food mediocre.
The hostess staff was very polite and professional from the time they greeted us to the time we exited. Very informative of wait times for our table and kept us updated. Our sever (Elliott) was exceptional. He answered all our questions about everything from the drink menu to the various appetizers to anything we were unsure about when ordering entrees. He made us feel at home and like a valued guest of the restaurant. He made sure we were doing fine several times throughout the service. The drink selection was great. The appetizer was amazing and our dinner was even better. Elliott recommended we finish the night with desert and coffee and Thank Goodness we listened because it was amazing as well. The place is a little pricey but you get what you pay for and definitely worth every dollar. Will surely return in the future. Thanks for everything.
