Waitress was extremely rude and the restaurant was the nosiest I have ever been in. Food was okay but nothing amazing. Would not go back...not sure why it’s rated so high.
Outstanding flavors and service. The only negative was that it was very loud.
Sharing plates is the way to go.
Fantastic appetizer, crispy pork belly cubes! Dinner just average. Very noisy, could hardly talk and wait person had to get very close to be heard. Wine by the glass was also pricey. Too many great restaurants in San Francisco to choose from, would not go back to Chinalive.
Excellent food and waitress, loved the decor, the only thing negative was the level of noise but that would not keep me from coming back.
A bit noisy but the food was outstanding. Servers were very busy. One of us was vegetarian but he also had a good meal. The flat iron steak, chili prawns, noodle soup all excellent. As were the green tea tiramisu and black sesame cheese cake, unusual and tasty desserts
Great food and service. A fab evening
I would only recommend going to China Live for lunch. The evening is chaotic. I love the food and have been many times hoping the service would be a little more organized. Even the wait staff says it unorganized.
Service by the waiters was super spotty. They were mostly white too.
Incredible!!!! The best dumplings I have ever eaten!!! Great vibe, and service.Dont miss the Peking duck or the dumplings!!!!
Felt very rushed at beginning of meal by hostess and server. Sever asked if we were ready to order before even offering drinks.
The dough on the dumplings was dry and little tough. The steak in the steak and pea pod dish was overcooked. The kung pao chicken was okay and I liked the bbq pork.
We never received the chow mein we ordered and the server did not check back with us on how things were so we could make them aware of this.
The green tea tiramisu was quite dry as well.
Overall it seems like a lot of money for mediocre food in a cool setting.
Expected more from the food. Dim sum some good, some not
Second time at the restaurant. The care and creativity in the food preparation is outstanding. Seeing all the food prepared out in the open at the different cooking stations makes for a unique dining experience. By the far the best restaurant in China Town and one of the best Chinese Restaurants in San Francisco.
A must go!
Good food, great service, great for large groups - we were a group of 11. Good ambiance. Would go back. Salt and pepper crab, Peking Duck, Sichuan dumplings, flat iron steak, and spare ribs were yummy. Had lobster during a prior visit - boring - but the crabs were yum! Great service.
I was really pleasantly surprised. I thought the trendy styling would overshadow the food but no, the good was outstanding! Our fav was the char siu bao. So light with a crunchy top and perfect ratio of meat and sauce to pastry. The pan fried pork dumpling was also excellent. Had a super crispy fried bottom, a little juice and bright gingery pork filling. Another must have is the filet mignon and snow peas. Meat so tender and snow peas so crunchy. Chow mein was excellent
Absolutely a must stop in Chinatown. The food was outstanding and the service was exceptionally.
Very good food, lot of alternatives, good to share.
Incrisble experience. Some of the best Chinese food I’ve ever had.
Too loud service mediocre, however hostess was very pleasant.
Food was ok but the duck in the sesame pockets was cold. Food not as fresh as last visit. The skirt steak was very tough wouldn’t order again. Nice space though.
Dim Sum was very good - everything else very average. Noise level is excessive making it very difficult to hear others speaking
The Vegetarian Dumplings were amazing. Fun atmosphere.
Perfecta. Sitio muy bonito y amplio. Servicio excelente. Comida muy rica.
What a fun and vibrant restaurant and shop! We had no idea what the food or the shop would be like, and we loved both! The shop to browse in was terrific. So many cool spices and sauces not only to try but to purchase also. Our meal was wonderful. Started with 2 different dim sum and then Peking duck sandwiches. Followed by crackling garlic chicken. Would have been better if cooked longer. It was pretty tough and hard to chew but the flavor was incredible. Also had a dish of noodles that were exceptional. Will certainly go back. They were friendly, prompt and very helpful with suggestions. Great spot!
This is a place one might visit once, just to try, but the food was disappointing, expensive and strange. The space itself is very nice... with lots of open seating, but it all seemed self conscious and the waiters appeared to be unsure of themselves. The food was very disappointing.
This place has a lot to be ironed out. There seemed to be a lot of servers on the floor yet it took so long for someone to come and take our order. About half of the dishes were very good. The other half were just okay. The place was too loud. Overall it was an okay experience.
Handled a food allergy extremely poorly. Server kept trying to upsell us on items. Sometimes overly attentive, sometimes overly absent.
The dumplings seemed undercooked on top and burnt in top. The wine had a weird stun he, which our sweet waitress traded out for us! Loved the atmosphere and the store!
The food is always incredible, but unfortunately they’ve switched their hostess/seating system and it’s extremely inefficient and leads to a lot of people awkwardly waiting in the store area. It also took far too long for us to be seated despite having reservations. The service was fine, but the food is excellent and the ambiance is far too loud and crowded compared to how it used to be.
The food is terrible. The filling in the dim sum was undercooked while the dough was rubbery. Next the wings were over cooked and tough. Our entree , the twice cooked pork, was similarly flavorless and under flavored. Even the rice was cold and not fluffy. Overall it was probably the worst food experience in SF. Service at the dim sum counter was great.
WOW!! The people behind this place really know what they are doing! A wonderful experience from start to finish. From the heat little market you enter through, to the expo style kitchens that are turning out amazing food with precision and just the right amount of flare. China Live will not disappoint. The signature dumplings are out of this world but take 20 minutes so order them right away, the 10 ingredient salad is beautiful and delicious and perfectly balanced. The mango shaved ice dessert was amazing. We enjoyed the meal here so much we are going back again because there is so much on the menu we want to try. Such an amazing addition to the SF food scene. This place needs to be on everyone's list of places to go in SF!
Excellent food, cooked right in front of your eyes. Thanks God I asked for a quieter table as the noise level is quite high, we sat at one of the counters where they make food and I loved it.
Great place to meet friends so that you can pick and share multiple items on the menu :-)
Great authentic Chinese food in a clean and casual atmosphere ! Would recommend to anyone and would come back again !
Excellent, unique dishes to enjoy. Very cool space with a great staff. The duck was excellent and their homemade sauces were so good! We were visiting from out of town and CL was highly recommended to us. It did not disappoint and plan to go back the next time I’m in town.
We requested seating at the dim sum counter in the back because we sat there on a previous visit and really enjoyed watching that food prep process from front row seats. The noise level seemed a little more subdued where we sat than out on the main dining area. We were able to carry on a conversation among four people.
The food and beverages were top quality. Service was very good and attentive. Prices may be a bit on the higher side but we didn’t mind for what we got. Since we we’re introducing friends to the dining experience we knew the food, service and ambiance would not disappoint.
Worth a visit for the concept of quality culinary shopping with cafe Chinese food with a twist. The sound track is needlessly loud especially at off hours eating . The architectural layout of the kitchen stations is unique and worth ambulating.
We went here for Saturday brunch and it was awesome! The food was phenomenal and the service was on point. I was very impressed with both the interior of the restaurant and the food which was absolutely delicious! This is my new go to place for out of town guests. This restaurant kinda embodies what its like to live in SF.
Visiting SF for the day and capped it off with a visit in Chinatown. Waiter, Ummer, was great. Excellent recommendations and very attentive without being intrusive. Energetic ambiance and great food variety. Definitely worth a visit.
Great experience but we were just seated on a high table
Communal even though we have reservation
When I inquired about gluten-free free options I was told that they had many. When we arrived we discovered that there were very few gluten-free items.
