Eight Tables by George Chen is an elegant and sophisticated fine dining restaurant serving a seasonal 10 course Prix-Fixe menu of elevated Chinese cuisine. With a clandestine, back-alley entrance and intimate semi- private tables, each guest feels transported to George and Cindy's home away from home.
The idea sounded great: an intimate and upscale dinner around the best Chinese cuisine specifically cooked for you. In fact every things end up to be just pretentious and mediocre. The food is not interesting, you can have a lot better one block away. It is not because you have caviar (served twice) as an ingredient that the coude is amazing, etc. The service is also wannabe classy without the class. Obviously not recommended as the the outrageous prices make you feel like an idiot who got screwed.
One of our best meals ever!! This restaurant has the most beautiful interior in SF. Chef George Chen is inventive with his cuisine and there is no similar Chinese restaurant like this in the U.S. This is a must eat restaurant!
Very special night with great food and attentive service. Really enjoyed having the chef come over and greet us and describe our first course - nice way to start the meal! Decor is also well done.
Each dish was beautifully prepared, presented, and the taste was wonderful. Memorable dining experience with a wonderful wine pairing carefully and thoughtfully selected for each dish. Dishes were delicately balanced, but full of flavor. Chef George comes out and greets all his guests at their table when they arrive. It’s a nice personal touch. Their cocktails are creative and tasty, as well. Dishes are well paced, friendly staff, not pretentious.
Absolutely outstanding experience not to be missed. The food, the service, the presentation, and the ambiance. Chef Chen came and interacted with all the guests. We knew how much it would cost, so no regrets. Will be back soon. Certainly recommend to all lovers of fine dining.

We have dined at almost all the 1 to 3 star Michelin restaurants in the Bay Area and many of the Top 50 Restaurants In The World. Eight Tables is certainly one of the better restaurant.
Best food experience I’ve ever had. Service and staff was impeccable.
A special occasion restaurant for an ultimate dining experience! We never had Chinese cuisine prepared at this high level with so much detail to our comfort. Each dish was described in detail by the well dressed trained staff. Ditto on all the well expressed praise in the press and websites for this elegant restaurant. However, Eight Tables was very difficult to find, especially on the cold rainy night we dined. It is on the corner of Columbus and Vallejo Streets, look for Cole's Hardware on Vallejo. To the left are gates to 8 Kenneth Rexroth Pl with discrete signage. The guard summoned a valet who escorted us to elevators to the second floor restaurant. We were treated like royalty the moment we entered. We were personally greeting by GM Andrew Fuentes and so delighted when Chef George Chen came to chat with us at our table. Thank you for delicious anniversary five spice cake, jars of granola and Eight Tables chopsticks with menu. Looking forward to celebrating at your restaurant next time we are in San Francisco. This is a destination restaurant, Michelin star(s) to be awarded for sure!

8 Tables is a wonderful culinary journey....New textures and tastes, worth trying, this is in not Chinese fusion, it is reinvented/elevated Chinese flavors and tastes. You should try now, before they get their first Michelin star, because after they get their star ..you'll have to wait 3 months for a table.

One of the best and most memorable meal experience I've had, if not the best! They are thoughtful in every aspect, from food, decor, to service. Worth giving a try for special occasions. Great and attentive service.
Awkward service, good food but not worth $1200/ couple. Ordered pre-dinner cocktail and waited for 30min. Got served after 1st glass of wine pairing? Okay cocktail and could have done without it if there were no point.... Good wine pairing. Then we got kicked out since next guest were waiting! Very disappointed.
The service was truly outstanding as were the china pieces on which all food was served. Glassware and utensils also were of highest quality. We were very happy with the 10-course tasting menu with the exception of the yam foam and the sea cucumber. That is, also except for desserts. In particular the combination of eggplant at the bottom of a milk chocolate mousse with the entire dessert wrapped in a thin strip of dried eggplant was perhaps something that a western palate could never like. It is difficult for me to rate Eight Tables on "Value." There were many elements that were exceptional -- definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience. However, for the tasting menu for two with two glasses of wine each (we did not do the wine pairing) the bill was $780. This is the most I have ever paid for a meal. Hard to judge.

If the perfect food, service and ambience weren't enough... 4 visits to our table by Chef George Chen, wonderful conversation and he escorted us to see the kitchen and have a picture with the entire fabulous and talented staff!!!

Eight Tables is more than a restaurant, it’s like a dining adventure. Fantastic food, friendly and helpful staff, amazing choreographed service. It might seem expensive until you consider that the adventure lasts 2.5-3 hours and you are probably occupying your table for the entire night.
The quality of the food and the intricate preparation is impressive. I will be surprised if they aren’t soon sporting at least one Michelin Star.

Exquisite. You walk down a back alley and emerge in a elegant, dare I say presidential restaurant. The food and flavors were as good as it gets, and the service from the chef coming out to describe every detail to the som who didn’t miss a beat, was top notch. I brought a couple of my most important customers and they nor I could stop talking about the experience the entire trip. There was even an issue with the bill, they caught it, called me and fixed it. Stand up team at Eight Tables!
It was fun to try but it’s way too expensive for what we ate. It was quite a show but the food was not that impressive.

Eight Tables will earn a Michelin star or two soon. I reserved the chefs table which is located in the kitchen where you can see all the magic happen. If you want a more intimate quiet experience, you will want a traditional table with cute booth seating. Jenny, celebrating her birthday, and a chef herself, enjoyed the action and beautiful modern kitchen. The people are meticulous about the food and presentation and service. Sorry I cannot remember everyone's name but all were spectacular. Andrew and Mark accommodated all our needs and the sommelier, Anthony, poured tasty varieties of wine and offered delightful descriptions and stories. It was too bad Chef Chen was not there but Andrew relayed a private message from Jenny about a mutual acquaintance.
Everyone made Jenny's birthday special. Jenny met Daniel, Executive Sous Chef, who presented the sizzling rice soup with lobster broth. Jenny had a lovely chat with him and shared their Burmese heritage.
The ten courses were all well presented and flavorful. I could barely eat anything else the next day because I was still full.
This is fine dining at its best and well deserved. Michelin stars in the making.
The cocktails are mind blowing. Get the cherry wood negroni.

We had an amazing experience and meal seated at the Chef's Table. Each course was as good or better than the last and the team was warm and welcoming to us. I would certainly recommend the Chef's Table if available. It will not disappoint!
Wow, I had no expectations going into the odd little alley. But from the point of entering the reception, I felt welcomed, into a magically journey. The presentation of the food, the service and the tastes and the wine pairings were fabulous! It is definately a memorable culinary event to be experienced!
Amazing service & food!
The most beautiful ambiance, sophisticated, warm, inviting. Owner/Chef George Chen so gracious and welcoming, as if we were dining in his home. The wait staff choreographed the removal and setting plates on the table, unobtrusive but anticipating your every desire. The table settings were exquisite - the hand-made cocktails were divine. Each course was a photographer's dream, but more importantly, were out-of-this world delicious. It was so lovely to be able to sit quietly, savor each bite and reflect on the thoughtful, labor-intensive preparation Chef Chen put into each delicious morsel. We enjoyed the instructive, but unobtrusive, details that were shared to assist us in enjoying each dish. (My friend, who is Chinese, said the duck was the best she ever had - in fact, she repeated that compliment about many of the incredible dishes placed before us and she's dined in many of the the best restaurants around the world!) Eight Tables is to be lauded for the TLC Chef Chen and his amazing crew and staff have tirelessly put into making our dining experience phenomenal and unforgettable. Eight Tables will dazzle your guests and assuring San Francisco once again rises to the top when it comes to *star dining with this most amazing, unforgettable and incredible dining experience. Go and be prepared to be elevated into the realm of highest epicurean delight.
Great staff and ambiance. Courses varied widely in quality and preparation. Some were great and others disappointing. We don’t mind dropping $1500 on dinner with wine pairing and we do it a couple of times a year. But won’t do it here again.
Chef chef has an amazing palate. Food and service were superb!

This is a culinary experience not really just dinner. If you’re into food not just eating and you have the $$$$$ def worth a look. Fairy tale experience, with a fable worthy price tag. If you have the money it’s def an amazing evening but do not expect to spend less than $400 pp.
Well intentioned but way overpriced. Not worth the price tag a bit of a dissapoinment.
