What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation
7.5

Jose Andres’ new place isn’t quite up to the level of his other spots, but it’s a fun time for Peruvian, Japanese, and Chinese fusion.

Ratings 7.0-7.5:These are your neighborhood standbys - the places that you’ll happily hit for some pasta or a quick salad, but not a restaurant you are bringing your parents or (god forbid) a date to. The true embodiment of good but not great.

Trust your server when he/she says "this is what I like best". The Aeropuerto salad was simply great. We also enjoyed the dim sum, and the Peruvian chicken stew. Prices and service were great.

The food was great, but servers were incredibly quick to take plates and glasses away from the table even if they still had food or drink in them, did not ask if it was ok to clear the plates.

Great food with interesting flavor fusions! Didn’t know Peru had Asian influences and really appreciated tasting several different dishes on the lunch menu. Small bites were plentiful for sharing between 4 people- dying to go back for cocktails and seconds on the dim sum selection. Mmmmmm!

I have never had a bad meal there. We were celebrating a college graduation and we were acknowledged several times. We even got a special table that simulates eating on the floor. Always a great experience!

Many delicious options, so order up! Highly recommend the lamb potstickers, spicy tuna roll, and concolon (crispy rice with pork belly and sausage).

Exciting dishes, very popular. A little noisy but worth it. Try the pisco sour.

Fantastic!!! We did the chef's tasting menu and it was all wonderful. Great service, a wide variety of courses that included explanations of each dish. I would return again without hesitation.

Our waiter was wonderful and we loved the food and specialty cocktails. It's also reasonably priced. Four small bites filled two moderate eaters. Didn't notice the noise so must've been ok. We went on a Monday.

Very trendy restaurant with cool concept.
Prices especially the ceviche was very over the top.
Service was ok. Waiter was nice but always had a rushed attitude.
There are multiple servers though who bring out the food when they are ready.
Food was good but not “wow.”
Good place to go for large party.

I never order dessert but for some reason I decided to do so on my recent visit to China Chilcano. Ordering the Ponderaciones de Kiwicha - deep fried spiral cookie on a divine chocolate sauce with banana and ice-cream made from a Peruvian syrup called algarrobina - was the best decision I have made in months! I'll be popping in just for that dessert every now and again - a $10 plate of heaven.

We love the food and atmosphere! We were there on Mother’s Day with two little ones under five. There are no kid-friendly food options other than fried chicken, so keep that in mind before coming with kids! Otherwise, loved it.

In a world where the hunt for the next "must-eat," incredibly inconvenient, exclusive experience drives so many new restaurants into Van Gogh-like abstraction, Jose Andres really nails it with China Chilcano. The service is spectacular, but not in your face. Food is served as its finished cooking, steaming and fresh. Its a place where you can get regular reservation, has a bar, and doesn't require a 45 min wait to put your name down and then wait some more (no hate to the Bad Saint and Little Serow's of the world, they're delicious! But have access barriers).

Everything we ordered was outstanding.

We recently discovered China Chilcano and we are in love. The dishes are creative and unique, and we find the restaurant overall a real "swooner". Our favorites this last time - the hearts of palm salad, the hamachi ceviche, the stirfry chicken dim sum and the lomo saltado. The restaurant is popular and can be noisy as the evening progresses, but we went at 5:30 p.m. and the sound level was fine.

Delicious! My girlfriend and I were visiting from out of town and my brother and SIL recommended this spot. Although it was rather noisy at first--the music was loud and we were hoping to be able to easily chat around the table--the music was eventually turned down a bit which made chatting easier.

The food. THE FOOD! Was delicious. 11/10. We ordered several dishes and passed them around so everyone could sample.

Took some friends here who were in town for a few nights. We'd been there for drinks, but this was our first time getting food. Everything we got was amazing. Creative and flavorful. The cocktails are all pretty great creations - a bit pricey, but worth it. We got the cauliflower, the tuna sashimi, the california roll, the dumplings with the paprika crust on top (with gold flakes), and I forget what else, but it was all great. Our party was a bit late getting to our 7pm reservation, but they seated us immediately. Our waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu, and great at recommending drinks. Service was fantastic as well. The Asian/Peruvian clash works well for the food and the mood. I'll definitely be back.

We had a gluten/dairy free member of our group, so the waiter tailored our tasting to include dishes for all of us that she could also eat and one or two others only for her and only for us. The food was delicious and interesting and our before-dinner drinks and wine were excellent. The music matched the cuisine and the atmosphere was congenial and pleasant. We highly recommend China Chilcano!

Your Pisco Sour was prepared from a pre-mixed solution and hardly had any Pisco. Make them fresh like the good restaurants.

China Chicano was an absolutely great experience. Even though it was a busy Saturday night, they honored our reservation when we were 30 minutes late (thanks, Metro single-tracking!) They also helped us fit a 5th person at our 4-top. With all that accommodation, we were ready to enjoy dinner, but was pleasantly surprised that all our shared choices were delicious, and the wait staff was stellar. Will certainly return, if only for more Dancing Yucca!
