Food with unique flavor profile that I have not experienced elsewhere. Cozy hip atmosphere and attentive fun service staff.
We had a group of 7 and everything was great. The restaurant was super accomdating when we asked to be at a round table with our clients. Will be back for sure and highly recommend!
Great dinner with great company! Loved the variety of flavors and types of food!
Great place to enjoy interesting, delicious food before the Caps game. Love all of Jose's restaurants!
Loved the food. Very packed and a bit tight but to be expected.
Scrumptious food! Couples date and we all loved the plethora of flavors in the food. We were tasting each other’s dishes and loving it. The drinks were great too. That frothy margarita was so good! We really enjoyed seeing the other dishes that people had. So we’ll be back to try other foods. Thanks for a great couples night out.
My nine years old godson loved it and asked if we were coming back. He is a fairly picky eater. Turns out we are going back tomorrow
not like any other restaurant in town... totally different tastes
It was the best Peruvian food I have ever had....
Really great food. Service was excellent. I think you need to order a bit more food than one would think. The tapas plates are small.
Food was amazing. Ordered several items, favorites were soup dumplings (bao), lotus bun, dancing yucca and concolon. Ate family style. Everything was so delicious. Atmosphere was fun, good music, wonderful service. Wish we could have tried everything.
Noise level made it difficult to have a conversation. Many people, loud music and hard surfaces all contributed. We felt the loud music was a distraction that made everyone’s volume increase. Food was excellent.
Excellent, fresh, innovative food! Great experience!
Awesome experience. Delicious food and amazing service.
I had a reservation for 6, unfortunately two of my friends could not come and since I "downsized" my group in the words of the hostess, they could not give us the table because it was "to big for us". We were standing at the door for about 40 minutes, and the table was empty anyways, the hostess seemed very annoyed and with attitude and did not care at all. I do understand that is not the same consumption level but 1. a good attitude goes a long way, and 2. there was an empty table anyways so we could have eaten and left faster. While we wait, someone else kept complaining about a weird smell, it was really loud and the server was trying to be nice but we couldn't really hear him well. We only stayed because our friend was visiting and we wanted to take him to a Jose Andrés Resturant, and by that time if we went to another restaurant we would have to wait too (which is what you want to avoid by making a reservation on the first place)
Dinner before the Capitals game
Other than the service could take alittle more time explaining dishes outstanding restaurant. I believe this was my 9 or 10 visit and its one of my DC favorites.
I think that the staff was extremely kind and helpful. When I first walked in I was greeted with a smile. The presentation of some plates was not at the quality I hoped for but tasted wonderful. Thank you so much!
We were downtown to celebrate the Nats World Series win, so this was a special occasion. Eating at China Chilcano was a real treat.
Although I am a huge fan of all of Jose's other restaurants, I'll admit I was a little confused about China Chilcano so I hadn't visited until the crazy Nationals Parade Day. I was not skeptical of the fusion concept in general, I just couldn't get a solid vibe from the eclectic menu. That said, I'm so glad I finally gave it a try. Jose never disappoints. Phenomenal food, drinks and vibe as usual. We tried two noodle dishes -- Tam Tam and Aeropuerto as well as the squash dumplings. All fantastic. Can't wait to go back to try more!! And we did after parade drinks at Oyamel. Both Jose joints had great service despite the busy crowds!!
Food was very delicious and fresh
Service was very good
Expect to wait even if you make a reservation
Most dishes were underseasoned. The food was amazing the previous time we went, but was very disappointing this time. Dining experiences were only a few weeks apart, but drastically different. Great drinks though.
Tried this for my first time. Did the fixed price 3 course lunch. There's something unique for the discerning pallet. The yucca fries with moving Benito wafers was delectable and entertaining. The chicken stew was presented in an attractive display and each bite was a new experience. Portions were perfect. Ended with the pineapple sorbet and the Peruvian specialty desserts; a great way to end the meal. Kudos to the chefs!
In the past China Chilcano was not my favorite. I'm so glad I sent back, it was really wonderful. Leave it to Jose' Andres to keep improving and creating! Highly recommend.
Traveled to DC this past week for a conference and a colleague recommended we try China Chilcano. So glad we did! It’s one of Jose Andres’ restaurants and provides a multicultural experience with a mix of Peruvian, Japanese and Chinese flavors. We loved that each dish brought contrasting flavors that were unexpected but went perfectly together. As a vegetarian I also appreciated that I had no difficulty finding healthy but flavorful options. Would highly recommend!
Excellent food. Enjoyed every bit!
Delicious and creative
I invited a Peruvian friend and her husband to lunch and they thought it was "excellent." No better compliment than that for the food. In particular the ceviche and butiffara was "better than Lima." As always, a great meal with good friends.
Excellent place. The food was magnificent at a very good price. Loved the dancing yucas!
Food was very good, a bit salty though. Service was efficient and cordial. Fun atmosphere. Recommend
Excellent place to dine in D.C. Menu was well laid out and assistance was available by the staff. Pleasant environment for a twosome just enjoying the city for a few days. We will b back again.
My 6 year old son loves the ceviche and sashimi and to write on the chalk board wall....
My favorite place to eat in DC!
It was such an amazing meal. The dim sum was delicious - cocktails were unique and inventive.
Overrated in my opinion. Good but not great. Loved the piano drinks though.
Interesting mix of Chinese, Japanese and Peruvian cuisine makes for a fun set of choices for dinner. A booth in the back helped make conversation easier in a pretty noisy/energetic environment. Friendly helpful staff helped navigate the menu.
This was my second time at China Chilcano. Both times I ordered the tasting menu. The selection of dishes the first time around was outstanding; I loved every dish. This time around it was good but not great. As always, the service was terrific and I love the ambiance of the restaurant. I'll definitely go back.
Fabulous, eclectic food; excellent service; unique ambience. The best dining experience we had in 5 days visiting DC. Highly recommended.
Great food and fun atmosphere. Would be fun for a party or a date.
Food was not up to par
