Chicago q Ratings and Reviews
We discovered Chicago Q through Open Table and were very pleased! The decor is simple and comfortable, the service is friendly and very knowledgeable, the drinks were fun as well as good bourbon and wine choices. We loved every food item we ordered from the alligator appetizer to main courses of mac-n-cheese and barbecue plates. We will be back for sure!!!
We were "celebrating" a birthday. When we walked in, I was taken by the lovely ambiance. However, despite the restaurant being half empty, with no one waiting, they rushed us through our meal to the point that we did not enjoy being there. While we were eating the appetizers, they asked more than once if they could take our plates (there was still food on them!). We had not finished our salad when they plopped our main course in the middle of the table. We had not finished our main course before they asked if we wanted our food boxed to take home and we were given the check before they even asked if we wanted coffee. They did give my son (adult) son a complementary dessert for his birthday, but he loves carrot cake and I had planned to order a slice, but they did not ask if we wanted to order anything else for dessert, just brought the check.
We felt unwelcome and rushed throughout the experience. What could have been delicious food, had it been savored and enjoyed ended up being an accompaniment to an annoyance. I told the waiter more than once, "we are not in a hurry," but he just seemed to want to get us out of there. I would not recommend this place to anyone. There are too many restaurants in Chicago that actually WELCOME patrons. This is not one of them.
Super cute, homey place - think of the decor as Magnolia Homes/Joanna Gaines style. House made BBQ potato chips and sweet pickles given to each table were absolutely delicious. Brisket, pulled pork and French fries were our favorites. Service, though, was so-so - not as warm and welcoming as the look and feel would suggest.
Service is great! Love the ambiance of this place. Simple. The pulled chicken sandwich is wonderful! Would just get the pulled chicken plate next time. Husband had the steak salad. It was wonderful. Son had a great burger. Our teens enjoyed it. Will return! Simple food done well!
The food flavours were great, but the service was slower than expected (20+ mins after being seated before any waiter came to our table to take a drink order). Food came out room temperature, nearly 40+ minutes after ordering entree. When addressed, manager seemed intoxicated and gave food vouchers which we won’t likely use.
As always, I dream of the bread-n-butter pickles and was not disappointed. My friends ribs were very good, and all of the happy hour appetizers were nice as well. I ordered the burnt ends and they were horrible - salty, no flavor except cumin, dry, & tough. Grossly disappointed with that dish.
Chicago q had been on our list for awhile to try. Being BBQ lovers, we were stoked when we showed up. I ordered the pulled pork quesadilla and my husband had the competition rack of ribs for $35....ouch! He had the honey butter cornbread and I opted for the Mac and cheese. Food was ok but didn’t live up to the hype in our opinion. Ribs were super smoked, so if you like that, these might be for you but it also made the meat very dry. Cornbread lacked flavor and was super dry and crumbly. Mac and cheese had good flavor but was watery. Quesadilla was loaded with meat but the sauce left much to be desired. We weren’t really impressed with any of the sauce choices that they bring to the table. We will definitely try it again for happy hour—deals and drinks looked good. Didn’t think the main dishes lived up to our expectations or the cost tho.
Awful!! We had a very bad experience during our thanksgiving dinner!! We order a wine bottle we didn’t like, then we asked the manager Ben the possibility to change it and he regret to do it with a bad attitude!!! We are a red wine lovers, so due to a bad wine we had a very bad dinner :( Fortunately we have to many options in Chicago so never come back again to this place!!!
Sorry to the rest of the staff!!
My SO and I came here for the Thanksgiving dinner special. We made a reservation, not sure how long the wait would have been without it, but we were seated early and served right away. This place looks like a little white southern house, being from the south this was soooo nice! It is HUGE on the inside, its crazy! The atmosphere is like a cozy, wine-cellar, southern comfort vibe. The meal was AMAZING! There were 2 options for Thanksgiving and we got both (one with Turkey n' fixins' and the other prime rib) to share along with wine and drinks. Its a steal for Thanksgiving in Chicago. Would definitely return here. Plus, on normal days they have a good happy hour going on! Southern comfort food right in Chicago!
I hesitate to leave such a poor review because Chicago q used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. In fact, I've celebrated more than one birthday there. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has fallen over the past few years -- particularly so recently -- and the prices have risen (e.g., now you have to pay for sides separately). In June, we were served multiple 8 oz. aluminum bottles of Diet Coke (for $3 each) that were a year past their expiration and discovered not an ounce of unexpired Diet Coke existed in the entire restaurant. That same trip, we noticed a distinct drop in portion size and overall quality of our meat -- less meat, more bun, etc. This past week, we still chose to have a hassle-free Thanksgiving at Chicago q. We ordered from the prix fixe menu. For $41 each, our entire meal arrived seemingly 30 seconds after we ordered it, all slopped onto the plate --- clearly from vats of stuffing, gravy, turkey, etc. Some bites were hot, some were cold, nothing was freshly made. We had to ask for the promised corn muffins. In contrast to the old days of moist, delicious cornbread (served in a skillet with your meal), these muffins were dry, hard and cold. Our desserts were also tiny and unsatisfying --- not the norm from Chicago q of past years. For over $50 a person, we left hungry enough to want snacks at our afternoon movie. The only upside? It's the first Thanksgiving in years where I have not felt guilty about how much food I consumed. We left saying to each other that if that had been our first trip to q it would definitely be our last. Such a bummer. That said, I recognize how fortunate we are that we have the luxury of complaining about a sub-par $50 meal on Thanksgiving. I hope Chicago q returns to its old form.
