Chianti Restaurant is a long time Gaslamp Quarter favorite, known for its authentic Italian cuisine, including hand made pastas, fresh seafood, and classic steaks. Our menu features recipes inherited from the rustic provinces of Tuscany, and are crafted from the freshest ingredients imported from Italy.

We offer an extraordinary wine selection featuring both Californian & Italian Regional wines, as well as a full bar that provides a wide range of liquors and after-dinner drinks. Our staff maintains a refined yet relaxing ambiance for a stellar dining experience amid the tiled entryway, plush seating & beautiful Italian accents. The waitress was very nice as was the ambiance but we waited 45 minutes before we got water for the table and almost an hour before we got our drinks. No explanation for why everything was taking forever. When the food finally arrived, the calamari was very well prepared but the entrees were only fair, the Rockfish was very fishy and the Lobster ravioli had some spice in it that seemed to overwhelm the entire dish. The wait could have been forgiven if the food was better but it was very disappointing and no one in our party would go back.

What a perfect spot for a balmy Saturday evening meal in February. Had a 6:30 pm booking through Open Table, which was great as two of us got an outdoor table away from the exterior railing. Later, heater lamps above were a perfect touch to keep us toasty, not roasty. Although getting lively nearby and inside as the evening wore on, our table was perfect for conversation. Roberto(?), our server, was the real Italian deal and he was extremely nice, though very busy. We each ordered a glass of wine that arrived quickly and really hit the spot. We ordered a shared caesar salad, which though tasty, was pretty much as expected. We each had the ravioli in pink sauce, which was really good. The only issue was the bread was served, then immediately salads were served, and immediately entrees were served. No time to savor and enjoy. It all came at once. We were not rushed to leave, so being served everything so quickly was a bit of a bummer. Overall, we loved Chianti and will be back. An early reservation time is key to a nice meal.

We dined at Chianti's for Valentine's Day. The food was fantastic, the wine and cocktail choices were very good. The service- impeccable!! Brad (our waiter) was great- he offered suggestions, answered our questions, even helped with the wine choices. We would definitely eat here again!

Fantastic place for group dining/business dinner. Great veggies, cheese, fresh fish, meats, pasta, condiments. Both the pasta & pizza are great. Super fresh and light. The octopus salad was delightful. Can’t wait until I return. Top-notch Italian steakhouse and more. Everyone of our group of 10 really enjoyed the meal. One standout was the chicken parm "pizza" that we ordered for the table. Excellent wine list -- both broad and deep, including some affordable options

We spent a lovely evening at Chianti! The food was plentiful and very good. The service was exceptional, and everyone was warm and welcoming. Christmas music played in the background, and the holiday lights were festive. Would definitely go here again.

Well, my review isn't exactly accurate. Chianti was actually CLOSED when I arrived at the time on my reservation from Open Table. There was a big yellow sign saying the restaurant was being sold. The sign was posted 11.14, and I arrived on 11.18 for lunch. Others went there later that night and it was open. So I'm not sure what happened, but I had a reservation and the restaurant was closed.

Food was great and our server was very nice.
However, we were a party of 15 with a reservation and it took them 1hr and 25min to bring out the food! The restaurant wasn’t even busy. There were more empty table then there were people.

The waiter was incredible and really saved the night. The Caprese and Calamari appetisers were spot on. I cannot say that for the rest. The chicken parm was dry and the gravy had no flavour. The lobster ravioli was bland and mushy in the middle. The truffle cream sauce smelled like truffles but had zero truffle flavour ( they used truffle infused oil instead of anything truffle). The table universally disliked the food. But the atmosphere was great. We sat by the pizza oven and the lady making pies looked straight from Sorrento. Again the waiter was just great so the review isn't all bad news. Possibly a table if 14 is too much and maybe you'll have more luck in smaller numbers.

Beef Carpaccio, Seafood Pasta, and Cioppinno were all excellent.
Service was fast and friendly.

A bit noisy for a romantic evening, but still enjoyable. Bread was served warm but I felt it could have been a better quality.

Only small room for improvement in what was otherwise an excellent meal!

Went with a friend for dinner. Super friendly service. My friend had the short ribs and I had the halibut special. We were both impressed by the taste and quality of our meals. For desert, we ordered coffee and shared a slice of tiramisu, which was light and flavorful. We had a very good experience at Chianti.

It turned out we were in town for Restaurant Week. We liked the reviews on Open Table so we booked a reservation but because OT does not report on RW we called to make sure Chianti was a participant. I asked the woman if they took part in RW and she told me they did. I asked a second time just to be sure and was assured the yes they were participants.

When we got there we reported in to the same lady who I talked to on the phone and were issued to a table and she saw to it that we were given water immediately(probably so the we would feel committed). When I asked where was the special RW menu I was told oh, we don't do Restaurant Week. I recalled for her our conversation and she said, Oh, I misunderstood you. Hardly likely

We left. We have no interest in supporting a Restaurant which so blatantly lies to its customers to try to fill themselves up- there we only two other tables occupied. We find this kind of deliberate deception unacceptable and feel as a service provider, you should as well.

It felt like we were being rushed by the manager. Our dinner order was taken before asking us if wanted anything to drink. We had to ask for a glass of wine. We were also just presented the bill without even asking if we wanted coffee or dessert. Our server was nice, but the manager kept jumping in (he made it awkward).

Food was delicious. I had the lasagna. Service was not good, they changed waiters mid stream and lost our order. Didn't even offer a free appetizer or dessert. The doors stayed open and it was extremeley hot. Only one ladies room that was occupied, so had to use the men's. It was clean tough. I would give them another chance because the location and the food were good, and hopefully the weather won't be so freaky hot next time.

We selected Chianti for a birthday celebration based on trip advisor and yelp reviews. The food was excellent. We had pasta dishes. The restaurant was quiet as we were there early evening on a Tuesday. We sat inside, all other customers who were there were sitting in the outside street patio area, so we felt like it was our private restaurant. Our server was friendly and helpful. We would go there again the next time we are in the San Diego area.

I am in San Diego every two months, and one of the highlights of my visits is dining at Chianti. Food and service are outstanding. Margarita is an excellent server. She offers great suggestions and frequently checks to see if everything is OK. The manager Abdu keeps the ship on a steady course. He is very welcoming. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

I made my reservation on open table but when we arrived the hostess didn't have me down. Fortunately they were very accommodating (considering they were packed and it was Comic-Con weekend) and got my party of 7 right in.

Food and service was very good!!
