Nancy Silverton's latest addition to the Mozzaplex, chi SPACCA– Italian for “he who cleaves”– was borne of the wildly-popular family-style dinners hosted weekly at Scuola di Pizza, the previous occupant of the intimate dining room nestled between Mozza2Go & Osteria Mozza.

Heralded as a "meat speakeasy" by Food & Wine Magazine, chi SPACCA has come to represent the quintessential new Italian dining experience, where accompaniments like the Foccacia di Recco, warm salted Medjool dates, and Culatello & Puglia burrata are just sideshows for the rest of Chef Joseph Tagorda's meat-centric menu which features a 42-ounce Tomahawk pork chop, a 36-ounce dry-aged bone-in New York Costata alla Fiorentina, and a 50-ounce dry-aged porterhouse Bistecca Fiorentina.

Amazing food and service and a killer playlist at a decent volume. I love this place. Lamb sausage and branzino were both superb and their interpretation of focaccia is amazing. Wine pairings we also terrific.

It’s one of our favorite places to eat. Service is great, the food is out of this world. We had the focaccia Recco which never disappoints.
The borlotti beans in a jar are my favorite. Being a meat-based restaurant, there are so many vegetarian options.
We basically ordered every side dish. We were so stuffed that we didn’t get dessert, which is a bummer. Because all of the desserts are freaking delicious. We made a reservation for two people by mistake but when we called to ask about adding another, they were very accommodating. This place is a gem!

Incredible Nancy Silverton very meat-centric restaurant. Everything we had was superb, especially the Bistecca Fiorentina. From appetizers to dessert, highest quality and intensely flavorful. Expensive, special-occasion experience but very worthwhile.

Food was pretty solid. Pork chop was our least favorite item we had, very chewy and not tender by any stretch of an imagination. Great wine provided at request, and overall nice experience. For the price of the restaurant, you would think their patio seating could have a more secluded and sound proofed sides to it ... but oh well. Might return to sit indoors. Shout out to Matt for being a great server and making our anniversary special with the surprise vanilla gelato!

Loved the experience at the counter, getting to be up close and personal with the food! An amazing dinner, left incredibly stuffed (and with leftovers), but still wanting more. Would definitely come back in a group to try more things!

Food was amazing, and staff was friendly but perhaps overwhelmed? We had to ask for a drink 3 times to get it, but every interaction was pleasant :)

The large steak was amazing to split, and the sides were delicious (albeit a bit small to share.)

We had a fantastic dinner. Food (burrata and stone fruit salad, rack of lamb, beef cheek and mushroom pie, beans, broccolini, fruit crisp) was excellent. The rosè and aglianico paired beautifully. Service was good. The only word of warning is the outside tables are on Melrose and the traffic noise is not great. Not blaming restaurant just know what to expect. Sitting inside is hot so at least we were outside where the temperature was better.

I brought my dad here to celebrate his 70th birthday and he said it was one of the best meals of his life! We enjoyed all the food, everything we ordered was fantastic. The service was excellent as well. Thanks for a great evening.

When we first went to Chi Spacca shortly after it opened, we were charmed by its atmosphere. It reminded us of a trattoria in northern Italy and we wanted to return as soon as possible. After our last visit, I don't think we will return. The food was still very good and the service was personable and responsive. Unfortunately, the prices are now sky high and not commensurate in my mind to what you get. But mostly it just seems like another expensive, loud Melrose restaurant. It has lost a lot of its charm. The loud music having zero connection to anything remotely Italian blasts in your ears. Combining with with loud conversations attempting to make themselves heard, the din was sufficient to give us headaches. We won't be going back.

After being on Keto for 2 months, we treated ourselves to the ultimate cheat day. The Focaccia is a MUST have as is the beef and bone marrow pie. The bread used in dishes is out of this world. The amberjack collars offers a fresh take on a seafood dish with a pesto sauce that substitutes cilantro for basil. The burrata and pear salad was light and refreshing.

No a/c & flies buzzing us all dinner. No longer offering signature beef & marrow pie. No cocktails. Music too jarring for small space. Charcuterie was excellent, but paid $30 for accompanying bread! Entrees bog enough to share. Sides of green beans & pommes puree were our favorite things. Panne cotta good, but only slightly sweet wothput berry compote. Crunchy nut clusters still gummy, not crisp.

This small restaurant that looks like your eating intimately in someone's kitchen is full of potential but unfortunately the food was upstaged by the incredibly poor service.
The menu was hard to read, and when I asked the server to help me navigate it he not only made me uncomfortable but he had no suggestions. Matt was our server and I've never met a server who seemed to not want to be at their job more. We saw him maybe 2 times from start to finish and we kept seeking people out to order a bottle of wine, order drinks, ask why our sides came out 10 minutes (im not exaggerating) before the entree. We were done eating for a while before anyone came to clear our table then waited another 10 minutes for desert menus. After completing desert we had to ask 3 people for our check because again, just waiting for some sort of service to bring it.
At no point were we asked if we enjoyed our meals and I only drank half of my bottle of wine that I wanted to take home but alas we could not find someone to grab us a cork so we could leave. We were there for 2.5 hours and I couldn't wait to get out of the most uncomfortable chairs in any restaurant I've been in. If youre going to have 30-40 minutes between courses, please make the chairs less excruciating.
The food was really good, but I won't be back. For $450 for 2 people, I expect to have a server.

Another wonderful culinary journey.
I had the pleasure of meeting Nancy Silverton in a joyful event, Alex’s Lemonade, about a couple of years ago. At that time I was proud to personally proclaim to Nancy, that for me, Chi Spacca rates as one of the top restaurants in the world, if not the best! And God knows I’ve been to many many famous and infamous eateries all around the world, including in Italy. And I still believe that to be true.
I live about 60 miles away from Chi Spacca, but I’m eagerly looking forward to my next trip to this culinary heaven.
