Heralded as a "meat speakeasy" by Food & Wine Magazine, chi SPACCA has come to represent the quintessential new Italian dining experience, where accompaniments like the Foccacia di Recco, warm salted Medjool dates, and Culatello & Puglia burrata are just sideshows for the rest of Chef Joseph Tagorda's meat-centric menu which features a 42-ounce Tomahawk pork chop, a 36-ounce dry-aged bone-in New York Costata alla Fiorentina, and a 50-ounce dry-aged porterhouse Bistecca Fiorentina.
Enchanted by the artistry of Italian salumi culture, we built the first “dry cure” program in Los Angeles so that we could experiment and perfect Italian charcuterie techniques in house.

Overall a terrific experience. But the planned highlight of our visit was the steak Fiorentina which was disappointment. We like our steak medium rare but this steak was bloody rare. We asked for it to be further cooked but it came straight back exactly the same. A waste of $280 and a miss. I noticed the same situation occur on many other tables. But the other dishes were all excellent - try the pies and tomahawk pork chop.
Food was amazing, service was the best possible. Only complaint is that they don’t have hard liquor— only wine and beer.
I consistently re-visit chi spacca for the reliable, high-quality cuisine and service.
Service was great. They were helpful with choosing couple of dishes and the sommelier help us choose a decent priced wine that the table loved. The steak we ordered was easily the best steak I have eaten. Perfectly seasoned, great char crust and cooked perfectly. Wouldn’t change anything about the steak. This is what most people come here for. So that’s all I need to talk about
Food was ok. Wine was not good. Poor wine menu selections.
I've always enjoyed this restaurant every time I have gone. This time the wait was not that long, possibly 10 minutes. The restaurant is now more spacious so they allow a better waiting as opposed to the cramped seating as years before. The food was well presented and delivered and my entire party enjoyed it.
I get that it's an Italian Steakhouse, but there wasn't even one pasta dish on the menu. We asked for slices of tomato for th burrata cheese plate, and they don't have tomatoes. Also my friend wanted the steak cooked medium, and they would only serve it medium rare. We're paying for the food, cook it to the temperature we want.
Hi! Thank you so much for dining with us ! It sounds like you would love our restaurant Osteria Mozza right next door to Chi Spacca. We serve Pastas made by hand daily, we have a caprese dish, and we have a steak which can be cooked to temperature as well! The Fiorentina style of steak at Chi Spacca is a warm rare because of the large size, quality of the beef and the way it is cooked (slowly and upright on the bone) which is why those steaks can't be cooked to temp! Cheers, Sean Maloney
There to celebrate a birthday. When we arrived there was a note wishing a happy birthday on the table, which was incredibly sweet. Being a Nancy Silverton restaurant we had the burrata on crusty bread drenched in garlicky olive oil. We also had the mixed olives which came with chunks of a light tasting pecorino. Both dishes were excellent and large. My SO had the razor clams which he loved and I had the onion pie which came with mustard dressing greens; the acidity in the dressing cut the richness of the pie. We each had glasses of wine which, though pricey, we’re larger portions and very nice. Tien, our server, was a delight. We had brought a cake for dessert so can’t speak to that part of the menu. We were made to feel very welcome and wouldn’t hesitate to return for another special meal.
Buena experiencia, un tanto escaso de opciones. Para familias con hijos menores de 17 se complica la selección.
El Pollo es magnífico y la focaccia. No se pierdan el puré de papa.
Su carta de vinos no me gustó, me pareció cara y escasa.
Hands-down this is my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles.
Another unbelievable meal here. This place is out of this world good. The foccacia di recco and beef and bone marrow pie are must tries!
Food and service is consistently good !
Bday with friends
Great wait staff and outstanding food.
All the food was perfectly prepared. The steak was so rich and tender it surpassed our expectations. Top notch service informed and attentive, I must come back for a Meat pie, they read beautifully on the menu.
It was a terrific 40th anniversary meal.
Love!! Love chi spacca great food and ambiance.
The food here is always amazing and the service impeccable. We love sitting at the bar and watching the action on the wood fired grill. We’ve been here a dozen times over the years and it remains one of our favorite restaurants in LA.
Great food ... room was cold due to required open doors
Great food as always. We chose outside seating last evening, and found that the seats are too close to the other tables. Also, the two heaters for our table both went out during our dinner so it got a little cold
Need improvement on their hostess stand. Several customers waiting to be even looked at, not due to the restaurant capacity, but moreso due to hostess's lack of attention to detail and lack of organization skills. We were waiting to check in for many minutes while the hostess decided to give directions and parking instructions to someone who's party was not even all there. By the time he decided to look at us, I quickly said "hi, we're checking in for our reservation" , and he said "i'm helping someone", in an extremely rude and tone deaf manner. I responded and said "I understand, I just don't want to miss our reservation cut off time". He then ignored me and proceeded to keep providing directions to someone. I've been a hostess before, so I know the proper way to have handled a situation like this would have been to let the woman who's party was not even all here to give me a minute while I checked those in who WERE ready for their reservation and then I'd give her my undivided attention. And then, by the time he did decide to pay attention to us, he said "since you guys are little late now, your table isn't ready yet".... Unfortunately, due to his decision to make the waiting customers feel unimportant, I feel as though this will make my decision to return very difficult. However, overall, the food and our waiter were wonderful.
We were celebrating my wife’s graduation at a restaurant that is one of her favorites. Waiting until 25 minutes past our reservation to be seated, however, was a damper to our otherwise great evening.
There was one guest seated in the center of the counter and the host continued to ask our group to wait outside until they departed.
When we were finally seated, it took a few moments to shake off the negative vibes the host had created. But when we did, we were rewarded with a lovely experience.
If you come here, do not miss the 'nduja spread, which I haven't stopped thinking about. The spacca Caesar salad was also fabulous, dusted with tangy anchovies. We splurged on the much-touted $205 dry-aged bone-in steak, and it was only okay. It was fine, it was good, but it wasn't $205 special. The service was also lacking. I know everyone is struggling right now, but four different people came and asked if we'd gotten water, and when we said no, each one went off exploring. It took 25 minutes to get a bottle of sparkling water. Everything else came along okay, but then they brought us a dessert menu and didn't reappear for 20 minutes. So we didn't have time for dessert. But if you *do* go here, again, the generous scoop of 'nduja spread is something you won't find just anywhere, and the execution here is perfect. This dish rings the bell.
Excellent place to have dinner with friends great food great service!
I was celebrating my 21st birthday and our server and the whole team knew exactly how to take care of us!!!! thank u
Nothing on this menu is a bad choice, service was on point and overall a pleasant meal and evening.
Next level food and wine. Great service!
This could possibly be my favorite restaurant currently & maybe of all time. Every dish was deceptively simple, elegant, & perfection. The service was also incredible. Only drawback is that I did not get to meet Nancy Silverton.
The outdoor dining was good, though Melrose can be loud. One of the best steaks we have had in awhile. Will return to try more of the menu. Terrific wine list and wine service
excellent service. best steak in town. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
This was our fourth time coming here and once again the food was phenomenal. Service was a bit slow and our food took longer than expected to arrive, but overall everything was great
We sat at the counter and had a superb experience. Excellent service, best food in Los Angeles!
Everything was wonderful! Thank you!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Amazing meal! Start to finish not one thing I would change.
This was our first time here after a long anticipated reservation. The food was amazing and despite not having the focaccia that evening, the Nduja pane was quite delightful. The grilled octopus was one of the best that we've had. The Bistecca Florentina was cooked perfectly. The servers were great. Our highlight was seeing Nancy Silverton at a front table, someone we've admired for many years.
Had to eat outside on melrose and it was cold and noisy.
First time and it was great. We were a party of 8 and sampled so many items. I will definitely be returning
EVERYTHING was amazing as always. Bummed out they were missing some favorites but made some new friends, the porchetta app was amazing. So did the hot salami paste. The octopus the best I have ever had and the Shepard's pie was good but too small. Stickey Toffee dessert pretty darn good.
A terrific meal, our pepper steak was perfectly cooked, mashed potatoes were creamy and naturally flavorful, the grilled octopus was spot on. The only weak point was the broccolini which had too much lemon and was tough to eat.
We sat outside and the ambiance was not great. Melrose is noisy on a Friday. It was all they had available, but next time I would wait until inside was available.
Although our waitress was very good, and had a good knowledge of both the food and the wine, our experience started strangely with the host. The first person you interact with in the restaurant is very important and the host seemed very dismissive and disengenuous.
We will still be going back.
The entire Mozzaplex is overpriced and underwhelming. I have been to all 3 and have been disappointed with all. This time the food was good to very good, but not exceptional and the main courses felt fussy with ingredients. The staff was very nice but the kitchen very slow with 45 min between appetizer and main course. The outdoor seating cramped and chairs and table tacky, The wine was good but it was very tight and needed over 3o min airing. and I have had much better for the $120 we paid. Parking is $15 if you want the car sent 10 blocks away or $25 if you want it kept in the alley. If you cancel a reservation there is a charge of $25 per person.
LA is a great food town. We loved Campanile and La Brea when Mr Peel and Ms Silverton ran it. However, her restaurants have been below par ever since. We will not be coming back to Mozzaplex, even if the prices were cut 30%.
