Heralded as a "meat speakeasy" by Food & Wine Magazine, chi SPACCA has come to represent the quintessential new Italian dining experience, where accompaniments like the Foccacia di Recco, warm salted Medjool dates, and Culatello & Puglia burrata are just sideshows for the rest of Chef Joseph Tagorda's meat-centric menu which features a 42-ounce Tomahawk pork chop, a 36-ounce dry-aged bone-in New York Costata alla Fiorentina, and a 50-ounce dry-aged porterhouse Bistecca Fiorentina.

Enchanted by the artistry of Italian salumi culture, we built the first “dry cure” program in Los Angeles so that we could experiment and perfect Italian charcuterie techniques in house.

This could possibly be my favorite restaurant currently & maybe of all time. Every dish was deceptively simple, elegant, & perfection. The service was also incredible. Only drawback is that I did not get to meet Nancy Silverton.

This was our first time here after a long anticipated reservation. The food was amazing and despite not having the focaccia that evening, the Nduja pane was quite delightful. The grilled octopus was one of the best that we've had. The Bistecca Florentina was cooked perfectly. The servers were great. Our highlight was seeing Nancy Silverton at a front table, someone we've admired for many years.

EVERYTHING was amazing as always. Bummed out they were missing some favorites but made some new friends, the porchetta app was amazing. So did the hot salami paste. The octopus the best I have ever had and the Shepard's pie was good but too small. Stickey Toffee dessert pretty darn good.

A terrific meal, our pepper steak was perfectly cooked, mashed potatoes were creamy and naturally flavorful, the grilled octopus was spot on. The only weak point was the broccolini which had too much lemon and was tough to eat.
We sat outside and the ambiance was not great. Melrose is noisy on a Friday. It was all they had available, but next time I would wait until inside was available.
Although our waitress was very good, and had a good knowledge of both the food and the wine, our experience started strangely with the host. The first person you interact with in the restaurant is very important and the host seemed very dismissive and disengenuous.
We will still be going back.

The entire Mozzaplex is overpriced and underwhelming. I have been to all 3 and have been disappointed with all. This time the food was good to very good, but not exceptional and the main courses felt fussy with ingredients. The staff was very nice but the kitchen very slow with 45 min between appetizer and main course. The outdoor seating cramped and chairs and table tacky, The wine was good but it was very tight and needed over 3o min airing. and I have had much better for the $120 we paid. Parking is $15 if you want the car sent 10 blocks away or $25 if you want it kept in the alley. If you cancel a reservation there is a charge of $25 per person.

LA is a great food town. We loved Campanile and La Brea when Mr Peel and Ms Silverton ran it. However, her restaurants have been below par ever since. We will not be coming back to Mozzaplex, even if the prices were cut 30%.

Service great, tables too close so you get to hear everyone’s conversations whether you want to or not. The menu was very limited but the food was good but the sauces were a little too strange for our tastes. Very pricey

There wasn't a choice of poor for the outdoor seating on Melrose. The table and plantings were fine. The problem is you can't get away from all of the sounds of motorcycles, etc. and the fumes. I don't know what to suggest as it isn't a quiet facing street. Maybe in the future the outdoor seating for Chi Spacca could be in the courtyard???

It was a memorable and delightful meal, excellent wine choice and just perfect, as always!!

They wouldn’t close the doors to the outside and it was frigid inside. The server said having it open made it easier for them to get in and out which was absolutely not true.

The $380 steak we got we ordered medium rare and it came out less than rare—closer to raw. Just not a great experience and way more expensive than it’s worth.

Always fun coming back to chi SPACCA. Season changes along with the menu. Today, lobster was so good but missed the razor clams.

Porterhouse is always right. Pork chop was added since 4 of wanted venture to the other side fine dining. Eat until you can no more. lol

Food was great as always. So are the people at chi SPACCA. Feels like home and I don’t have to any cleaning. Haha.

Two bottles of wine and all 4 of us are happy. Cool.

Must do it again soon.

Our seventh visit to Chi Spacca was easily our most disappointing.

We have said for years that Chi Spacca is our favorite LA restaurant. We can’t wait until our next visit!

But this time (our first visit since pandemic) soured us.

The glass of wine we used to order for $18 is now $30. We had such sticker shock that we looked up the bottle online, and it retails for $15. I understand that wines by the glass are usually marked up so the price of a glass is what the restaurant pays for the bottle, so this seems unreasonable.

The food (which used to be transcendent) is now merely very, very good.

The service (which used to be sublime) is now merely very, very competent.

In the past, we were made to feel special, like we mattered as guests. Today, we just didn’t get that love.

Today, the same meal we used to pay about $300 for, was $440.

Is Chi Spacca good? Yes. It is very good.

Is it worth the price? Not to us, any more. And that’s sad, since we loved it so much.

We are happy to pay top dollar for a special meal. Sadly, this wasn’t special, and has likely soured us on returning to Chi Spacca for our next special occasion.

Simply wonderful food and service, it is not inexpensive but you can navigate round the menu and choose less expensive dishes that proved to be fabulous, I recommend the lamb sausage highly. Salad was also wonderful fresh picked and delicate.

Great service and staff.
However the food is insanely overpriced and far from being authentic Italian food.
As an Italian in the US, I was excited to try it given the stellar reviews. Unfortunately it was disappointing, especially given how expensive it is.
The only thing I'd save is the tagliere di salumi and the burrata.
We tried focaccia di Recco and it tasted nothing like it should have.
We tried the pork loin and left most of it.
I'm sure that other dishes are good, so I'm talking just about our experience.
Having said that, we won't go back another time.
