Chi Modern Vietnamese Kitchen
My wife and I went there for the first time. We had the best spring roll ever. The crispy duck roll was cleverly wrapped in a soft rice paper. Not only it adds to the texture of the already flavourful roll, it prevents the crunchy roll from crumbling all over. We also had the wagyu beef carpaccio, shaken beef and lemongrass chicken. All fresh and yummy. Waitress was very friendly. Had a chat with the owner and she is very warm and friendly.
Friendly service. Very good food. Summer rolls had a surprising crunch. Papaya salad was refreshing. Shaken beef house special outstanding. Best value in Vancouver, so far.
Our first visit and the main issue was insufficient staff to greet, seat and serve the tables. There were only two women out front and the house was full. They were overwhelmed. Food was standard Vietnamese. The grilled eggplant appetizer was especially good.
We were very disappointed in our trip to Chi. We love Vietnamese cuisine and were looking forward to a taste experience. What greeted us was flavorless food and bad service. We spent over 80 dollars on lunch and were not impressed with any of the food. If that was Wagu beef in the dish I think you paid too much for the product. We will not return and will not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Food beautifully executed. We had the duck spring roll which were superb. Also had the eggplant, the turmeric sable fish (to die for) and the filet mignon cut in pieces which was so tender and succulent and melted in your mouth that was cooked with watercress (don’t know what was on the sauce but was good) and had the Mango lemonade which was so refreshing. I like that owner/chef took the time to talk to her guests about the food. Good touch!!!
The one and only fine dining Vietnamese restaurant in Vancouver! A little secret in the heart of Kitsilano!
Excellent tasty food. My favorites were the duck rolls, shaken beef, pork belly and sablefish. The interior was very beautiful and our server, Nicki, was very attentive. She recommended the aforementioned dishes. A wonderful experience.
An elevated Vietnamese experience with elegant flavours, new twists, and an emphasis on local ingredients. This is not your "green linoleum and plastic table cloths" variety of Vietnamese restaurant, so come here to be impressed with how regal this cuisine can be!
The food at Chi is always outstanding. This is the 5th time I am there. The chef never fails to surprise me with new flavours. This is different from other Vietnamese restaurants I visited before. The food is more refined. Highly recommend it to anyone who wants to try new cuisines.
We had the duck salad rolls, sablefish crab pot, and tamarind prawns. Food was good but nothing special - a little too greasy for us. Service was attentive and the place was clean.
The cuisine was a huge cut above the norm....it had a unique flare, taste and wonderful artistic presentation to it. The servicngs were slightly small but if for two persons, 3 to 4 entrees work nicely. The grace and attetnion of the staff was excellent.
Wonderful meal. Great summer night dining with the open door. Terrific service.
appetizers were all pretty amazing
Typical dish like the regular pho fell short but I guess it’s not what you’d go to this restaurant for
Delicious food with interesting flavours and textures. Most enjoyable!
Having had a previous excellent experience we thought it would be a great choice for dinner with out of town guests. This was not the case. Some of the food was very good, such as the duck rolls and the curry. The wagyu pho was tasteless and a poor option when the other menu item of choice was not suitable due to an allergy. Unfortunately the poor service failed to mention to us that there were also dinner specials, either of which would likely have been good alternate choices.
Overall quite disappointing in service and quality.
I wanted to love it but it was EXTREMELY overpriced for the amount of food you receive. 4 dishes for $100 is crazy..... My thit kho consisted of 5 pieces of pork and my shaken beef was crazy overpriced for the few (~15 tiny squares of beef) I received. The papaya salad was tasteless, not enough fish sauce or spices... tasted bland. I will not be returning or recommending this to friends.
Food and ambience were great except for the service. Me and my friend (two girls) ordered one appetizer and one main course to start because we weren’t that hungry, so we already told them we will order more later but the server still made a comment saying “we’ll, usually people order one appetizer and main course for themselves in stead of sharing”. Then after the food arrived, within one hour, the same server came to our table 4 times asking if we want to order more and we already said no. The portions were actually quite big. Anyways, the server was very pushy.
I think the price is a little on the high side with the portion offered.
A unique gem and not a pho joint! The dishes the chef recommended were outstanding. High quality, delicious, and interesting things we had not seen in other Vietnamese restaurants. This was more upscale and the food quality was high. We can't wait to go back.
more washrooms required, otherwise ok, nice service
We always have an outstanding meal at Chi. The food is absolutely delicious and Chi is an amazing chef and a lovely woman to boot. She prepared the season’s spot prawns to our specifications and they were amazing; the deep-fried heads to follow were spot on, as it were!. Do visit - you will not be disappointed.
Not enough staff. Our table was messy but no one cleaned up until we called them to. After ordered desserts, they cleaned half table then off to service other table etc. food was ok, with lack of service plus too pricy to consider just ordinary food, will not come back.
A hidden gem. Food was delicious and ambience was great! Will definitely be back.
Good chill place to have dinner
I really want to love this place. It’s my 3rd time here and although the food is tasty, the staff and owners are amazing, but the portions are way too small for the price. It’s really hard to justify and this was apparent in my last visit.
If you’re going to have family style dishes please make them large enough for a few people to share. Felt like each dish was a few bites between the 4 of us which is disappointing given the price. The place was empty and it’s sad because there is so much potential here! I really hope something changes because these people are lovely.
First time having fine dining Vietnamese food. It was SO crazy good. We will be back again for the beef and more.
Inventive, flavourful food and nice service in a tasteful setting. If you are looking for a more modern Vietnamese dining experience, this is it. Have been a few times now and never disappointed. Often, the chef will come out herself to have a chat with lucky diners.
Delicious food - I recommend the duck rolls and pork belly.
Yummy options, reliably GF if needed!
Really good Vietnamese food and good service. It was easy to get a table on Sunday night.
The fish dish we ordered was old and had to be sent back. We had to argue with them to take it off the tab.
The other dishes we ordered were so-so and not worth the price. Very limited cocktail and wine menu. It was a bust.
Services was great and the food was delicious but we definitely thought it was overpriced.
Restaurant was not ready for the amount of people coming in for valentine's day. Coconut flan was not tasty at all.
Overall experience was decent. One thing to mention, we wished to switch to a more comfortable table, but the waitress told us that there will be customers coming, but nobody came during the entire time....
Painfully experience with 2019 Dine Out.
Their coconut rice was absolutely dry. It looked like they heated it up in the microwave without putting a lid on it.
Chicken was tough & had an unpleasant smell. Shaken beef was good, but not that super tasty compared to many other restaurants in Vancouver.
Our server was the daughter of the owner, who seemed to be forced to work there on a Saturday evening. She was rude and even unwilling to explain to us about the dish we had a question about. Will never go back there.
Service was terrible, the waitress was nowhere to be found even when they were serving the people right beside me. However, the food was great.
The food was incredibly salty and greasy and completely overpriced for the quality -- not what I would expect for Vietnamese food. Our bill was $90 for 2 people without drinks. The ambiance was nice and it wasn't crowded at all (maybe a bad sign?) The server, although very friendly, took our food before we'd finished and never offered to box it to-go. When it happened the first time, we spoke up and she returned the plate, but then it happened again and we just let it go, because we had already decided that we would not return to this restaurant.
We went to Chi for Dine Out Vancouver and were pleasantly surprised. The space is elegant yet comfortable, the staff is super friendly, and yet the food is the real star. We want to come back to try the regular menu. This place is a real gem that deserves more attention.
Very disappointed food severed. restaurant not busy, waited 15mins for each dish to come .Finally, 17mins for server to bring the bill over. Not recommended !
