All around it was an average experience. No complaints but nothing rocked me.
The food was excellent as usual. There was a full house on Sunday so the noise level was moderate but not intrusive. The migas was very good, a trifle cold upon arrival, but not objectionably so. Service was okay, not exceptional. I had to ask for coffee twice, but server was attentive otherwise. Never had a bad experience, and expect to continue to dine at Chez Zee.
There's actually quite a few things to like here food-wise, but the service and execution were way off. My burger was above average and very filling. The fries that came with it were also good. My dining companion enjoyed her gluten free pancake breakfast with potatoes, bacon, and eggs. The complimentary croissants were also good. The one mixed part of the breakfast was our appetizer of chips, queso, and salsa. The queso was very good. The salsa looked better than it tasted and could've used a slight bit more heat. And the homemade chips were very good, but quickly became overwhelming. In fact, overwhelming was a good description for our entire brunch as both of us are relatively hearty eaters and had plenty of leftovers on our plate.
The service and experience were the real letdown, especially at the price point for a restaurant known for its brunch. Our waiter took quite a while to greet us and even take drink orders, even with his promised "I'll be right with you." Similarly, our waiter was routinely MIA. He did keep drinks fairly well replenished though. Both of us had issues with our orders. My burger, which I ordered plain and dry, came out with full vegetables on it. No big deal and it was handled quickly and correctly, but the server did note that the kitchen had been told plain and dry. Similarly, the syrup bottle that my dining companion was served (after having to request it) with her pancake dish was a drippy mess with a hair also on the spigot of the bottle. And of course, this is when our waiter was MIA. After we found a manager, the bottle was replaced with a clean, fresh bottle.
Honestly, with two glitches, I would've expected a bit more concern from management. But then management seemed a bit off for the brunch experience as a whole. There were more than a few empty tables, but the waiting area was packed. Definite pro tip to make reservations online, especially for the Sunday brunch rush.
Great brunch to take my parents to while they were visiting from out of state!
Che Zee never disappoints! Brunch was perfectly prepared and served.
We go to Chez Zee for all of our special occasions and it's always amazing. The service is friendly and fast and the food is phenomenal. Highly recommend.
Food and Service are always consistently wonderful.
Very good overall.
We celebrated my daughter’s 19th birthday here recently. This is our go-to place for special occasions. Great service and great food, as always.
My only complaint ever is the noise level. Otherwise I just love it there. We usually go at a time that is not peak hour because of the noise when there is a crowd.
We’ve been going to Chez Zee since it was Chez Fred. Sharon Watkins has kept the place a joyous, colorful, bright environment, and, through her commitment to support local art, walls lined with real art. The food is reliably good to terrific. No other place makes a martini as good. My July Fourth brunch was an avocado Benedict, simply delicious. AND the Bloody Marys were, too.
I ate at the bar, and the young woman who tended bar was attentive and alert, and made great Bloody Marys.
No wonder this place is in the TOP 100 best brunch restaurants in the nation. Always great food and fun atmosphere!
Chez Zee has been an Austin staple for many, many years. Good Food and amazing array of desserts. The menu offers a variety of items. I admit that I've been known to sneak in to the location when I've been in the area to grab a dessert to take back to work or take home. During our latest visit, we attended the restaurant in full swing for Sunday brunch/lunch and it was crowded. Glad to see it is still doing well and very happy that I made a reservation which makes a huge difference on the weekend! The only negative thing is that is was really noisy so if you are looking for a quiet, romantic lunch not the time or place. You may have better luck during the week or during off hours. Other than that, my friend and I had a wonderful time during our visit. And look forward to going back very soon.
was a very good meal and the waiters were very attentive!
In-town from California. First visit even though I grew up in AUSTX and can’t wait to return!
Lovely and quaint place with many options on menu - pasta, quiche, sandwiches, salmon, veggies and wonderful desserts. Feels a little like easter brunch to walk into the place. Very welcoming and many options for whatever you might like.
Went with a friend for lunch. Never disappointed with the taste and quality of the food or the outstanding customer service at this restaurant.
The food was delicious & the service was great.
I had the Kale, Quinoa and humus salad - it was so good - I tried not to scrape my
Our server was delightful and our meal was so much fun.
Great from the word go. A favorite for many on Sundays so be due to book a reservation cause a lot of people LOVE THIS PLACE!
We love going to Chez Zee. The food is delicious with a good variety of options. I like the pecan crusted salmon and salmon penne pasta, and my husband likes the New York strip and smoked pork tenderloin. It's also great for my mother in law that needs gluten free options. The atmosphere is that of a charming neighborhood restaurant, with live piano music (Thurs-Sat) and twinkle lights inside and out. And the service is always great. Highly recommend it for brunch (Challah bread french toast is delicious but very filling :) ) and for dessert also!
The food was excellent, as always, and the service was outstanding. And to top it off, we listened to the wonderful Jeff Hellmer play jazz piano. Great to have Chez Zee in our neighborhood.
Great experience, as usual, from the valet personnel to our wait staff to the delicious meal! Really enjoyed! This time was to take my 90 yr old Mother again who was visiting. Chez Zee is always on her "favorite" meal list when she visits for the yummy French Toast. Thanks for a great meal.
Great food & service - always enjoyable!
Excellent experience !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was seated before my husband showed up. I mentioned on OpenTable this was for an anniversary and Chez Zee had a small Happy Anniversary sign. The wait for the food wasn’t long and our server was great.
Desserts! Bubbles! Oh.... dinner!! It was all fabulous!! We had a lovely time, the noise level was not too loud for dining conversation. There were some young girls celebrating a birthday.... they got a little loud.
It was PERFECT!!
Overall, still a great place to eat in Austin. Its hard to do a great job on food, ambiance and service. Their place has a great vibe for ambiance. Service has always been above average. Food, this last time, was just average. Their menu could stand to be revamped a little. But overall, this is a great place. The desserts are the best in Austin.
Went for Father’s Day brunch. Great food. Service and food. Will definelty go back
We came to see the Magician. The brunch was very enjoyable.
We have been dinning at Chez Zee since 1983,never have been disappointed !!!! Great Place hope all the Newbies in Austin do not find it!!! They have ruined most good places as well as Our Town. Austin is a Great Place...Please don't move here. I hear Dallas is Great!!!
Generally good experience, but super busy so waitress was not as attentive. We asked for the free delcious croissants but did not receive them.
We enjoyed our Farher’s Day Lunch very much! Great food and ambience!
We waited for an hour to have the breakfast delivered to our table. There is a fun ambiance in the restaurant but we were literally placed in a corner and all I saw were two blank walls and was very uncomfortable.
Celebrated my Father’s Day with my husband and dad, the food was outstanding as always. This is our favorite restaurant in Austin
Great experience for Father’s Day with exceptional service.
Our waiter Brandon was awful and of all days on Father’s Day. I’m very disappointed in the service. We were ignored and have two young kids. We had a 9am reservations and didn’t even get acknowledged until 15 minutes after and then it took him another 15 min to get our drinks and instead of having any sense of urgency he was dancing to a song playing. Tables that were seated after us already had their food. We asked another waitress Elle for some croissants and she was completely rude and was shaking her head after walking away from our table. I continued to watch her complain about every table and rolling here eyes and more with of course our waiter who hadn’t visited us at all. My husband I and never got a refill on coffee nor were we asked anything after our food came. Extremely disappointed
There are much better options for great breakfast/brunch service in Austin.
Such a nice surprise to see how you recognized our anniversary. Still our favorite restaurant.
While I usually eat at Chez Zee on a weekday, we were there at lunch time on the weekend and were able to enjoy the brunch menu. The regular menu has a large variety of food choices, and so does the brunch menu. The croissants and strawberry butter were heavenly, as was the creme brûlée French toast. Everyone was happy with the food! We sat in a quiet area which was delightful. This place is excellent, there's something for everyone, and it's always good.
Everything was wonderful except for the hostess, who was terrible. She completely ignored us upon arrival, walking past us twice with no acknowledgement. When we finally got her attention that we were waiting to be seated, she only rudely asked if we had a reservation then silently walked us to a table.
