Chez Zee Ratings and Reviews
We had reservations for 8:15 and were seated about 8:45, but it was Valentine’s Day and super busy. But enough about that. The service was impeccable, the food was delicious and was served very quickly after we ordered. But let’s get to dessert. The red velvet cheesecake-oh my gawd. Best thing I’ve ever had. I won’t mention the food hangover the next day (oops. I just did). Anyway, the entire experience was tremendous and I looked like a romantic god. Plus, I still had money when I left. You just can’t beat that.
We dined at Chez Zee for Valentine's Day. It was our first visit, and won't be the last. The food was excellent. Mine came out so hot it had obviously come straight from the pan. The cheesecake is to die for. Best I've ever had, hands down. Our only complaint was the volume of the live piano music. It made conversation difficult; we would have preferred a quieter environment.
Dragged my reluctant bf to Chez Zee for Valentine's day dinner. He is strictly an Italian and American food guy & I'm a foodie! I'm happy to say that he's a fan. His steak was not cooked to his well done (ew) request, but he did not want to cause a fuss. The person in charge that day did come by the table when he was over halfway through and offered a dessert to make it right, but he declined.
My only complaint was the fact that our entrees came 5 or 10 minutes after our appetizers. I do not like feeling rushed during a meal & really don't appreciate it from a fine dining establishment such as this.
With the exception of the steak being under done the food was delicious, including the strawberry chocolate mousse cake I took home to savor later.
There wasn't anything exceptional about this place, unfortunately. The menu looks fantastic - and if you like super-sweet, the creme brulee french toast will hit the mark. The huevos rancheros are a hard pass. The benedicts are OK, but everything seemed to lack seasoning. The best part: mimosas were reasonably priced.
Eh. I don't know. This used to be my FAVORITE place ever. Lately-the past two times my husband and I have gone to celebrate our anniversary and then most recently Valentine's Day, have been disappointing. I made reservations over a month ago for Valentine's Day dinner. We get there and we are told to wait 10 minutes, even though, there are SEVERAL tables available--I counted 15 free tables. Then parties without reservations for groups as big as 5 walked right in and were seated instantly. When we finally do get to sit down, we are placed at a small table directly by a drafty window when it is in the 30s outside. I asked to please move as I had made reservations a month ago and wanted to celebrate without shivering AND when there were plenty of tables around. The hostess seemed confused by this and told me the room was just cold, but ultimately complied.
As for the food, again, disappointed. My husband ordered the margarita pizza expecting something gourmet. But no, it looked like a kids meal pizza--small, very doughy (no crunch, no browned crust or bottom), and a glob of cheese on top. So much so that there cheese wasn't even melted and the dough was more like pita bread. I ordered the chicken fried steak and can say it had no taste at all. The winners of the meal were our appetizer of fried pickles and the mashed potatoes from the chicken fried steak. Our service felt very rushed-we were given the ticket before being asked if we wanted dessert. Then we were handed our to-go boxes at our table. Someone, a manager I suppose, came over and told us that they usually box up things in the back and apologized.
I will say that Chez Zee brunch is amazing! I just wish the food and service were more consistent.
I've been to Chez Zee many times and it's always consistently good. The ambiance and atmosphere is so festive! Staff is extremely friendly, great menu variety, and food is always good. Twinkling lights, lovely outdoor fireplace and heaters outside. It was a little too cold to enjoy this visit but they have a great outside area with lots of seating if you are waiting for a table. Small parking lot but they do offer valet parking in the evening so its never a problem.
We always enjoy Chez Zee. They have a great variety of food and everyone can always find something that fits their dietary needs/wants. Unfortunately this time I has the Smoked Pork Tenderloin and although it had great flavor it was dry that is why the food rating is good instead of excellent. They have great desserts too!
Was very disappointed in our trip to Chez Zee. The hostess was grumpy and didn't welcome us. The restaurant was not extremely busy (only 3 people in line) and yet she seemed very rattled. The waitress was very good even though she was very busy. The food was horrible. I had the trout which was very fishy tasting which usually means it is not fresh. The mashed potatoes and vegetables had no seasoning. The Torta appetizer was dried out like it was sitting uncovered in a refrigerator. My husband had the chicken alfredo. The chicken was very dry and very burned. Most everything we had tasted and looked like it was left over from a previous day and reheated. Altogether a very expensive disappointment for lunch.
We had a birthday celebration and had a very enjoyable time. Our server, El, was very attentive and amiable. She surprised us with some delicious cake for dessert. It was our second year in a row and I'm sure we'll be back. Congratulations to Sharon for a super place to celebrate.
It was ok! Not great! I ordered the Lobster Eggs Benedict for brunch. The atmosphere inside was dark. Somewhat friendly. I didn’t feel a warm welcome, but the waitress was attentive. I don’t know if I would try it again but I am open to it in the future. It’s not a bad place just wasn’t for me.
Chez Zee is the best place for a birthday celebration. The atmosphere is already like a party! The table is decorated for a birthday. Service was perfect and so was our order. The complimentary slice of cake for our guest of honor was much appreciated and delicious.
As always - one of my favorites. Food is consistently good, drinks and service never disappoint. I was happy to introduce a fellow born and raised Austinite to Chez Zee. She lives in South Austin and had heard about it for years but had never visited. Lovely brunch catching up. We were there for over 3 hours chatting and never once felt like they were rushing us. Thanks again for all the hospitality. We will be back soon!
This is the second time we have been to Chez Zee and it was about the same both times. The location is very convenient for us that live out in the northwest part of the city. Ambiance and feeling of the restaurant are very good. Our waitress was very attentive and made it pleasant. When it comes to food, the fried pickles and the chocolate gooey cake (can't remember the full name) are both excellent choices. The pastas that we had were decent, but had way too much sauce on it and I am a big sauce guy. It is like you had to fish out the pasta from a bowl of sauce, which is not good when it is a very heavy sauce. We will go back because it is a quaint little place and service is pretty good. I just need to find the dish that I love and will stick with it. Over, pretty enjoyable.
