Chez Zee Ratings and Reviews
A good friend and I go to Chez Zee every year to celebrate her birthday and the holidays! I love the eggs benedict and this time I did the eggs benedict (can't think of the name of the dish) where the artichoke heart replaced the english muffin along with sauteed spinach.
It was so creamy and delicious. The artichoke flavor with the hollandaise sauce was a delightful mixture.
Also, it's a must, that we split a pancake as part of brunch. This time we had the French challulah bread with the fruit and whipped cream. The sweet french toast with the fresh berries toned down the overall sweetness and had a perfect balance.
The pear mimosa was just the right amount of sweet and tartness in the drink. We will be back next year and hope to get there again before then!
Chez Zee, I love you. Always have. But your noise level is not energetic... it's frantic, over the top loud. Is there anything you guys can do to tone it down? It would be such a lovely place for a nice, quiet, romantic dinner or just dinner and a conversation... but the sound bounces around the room like a ROCKET.
Your food is awesome, service is awesome, location is good for me, love your decorations...
It's just THE NOISE!!! Thanks.
Took my parents here for Sunday brunch. Food was delicious as usual and service was on point. Of course we made sure to be there by 9:45am. Parking is easy at that time of day - we didn't have to valet. Got my first taste of the fruit stuffed French toast...sooooo yummy! They serve a perfect Bloody Mary as well - just spicy enough. If you are a bacon lover, their bacon is crisp and tasty. Personally, I'm addicted to the croissants and strawberry butter.
An Austin institution, and deservedly so. Food is always delicious, the wait staff is friendly and attentive, and the ambiance is delightful. It can be a little on the loud side for brunch or early dinner, but quiets down in the afternoons and is perfect for a romantic late evening dessert visit.
Solid food that is a step above the trypical reheated frozen realities of most restaurants in this price range.
The building itself is rough at best and the decor is painful and dirty. But again at this price point you have to forgive a dirty reality equal to any fast food. Not sure why traditional food has to mean sticky tables and tacky wall art but it does without fail.
Food is the winner though so if that is your focus beyond atmosphere then you have a winner. If you want to eat with dignity, might want to keep looking.
Chez Zee is consistently good. The dependability of their quality is important: I can suggest it as a mid-point meeting place for folks up north and folk in the south and all agree when I suggest it. Now that they take reservations so readily and seat people upon arrival it has gotten even better!
The food was not as good as it has been on previous visits. We were unknowingly charged $5 to substitute regular maple syrup for the menu item's pecan syrup. This was a shock and we were told that this was standard practice. It seems unreasonable that regular maple syrup could cost $5 more than the special pecan syrup. We will not come back. Even though we have previously had much better food and service.
One of our groups favorite spots for special occasions or just to be with friends in a wonderful place filled with great memories from over the years. The food is always good, staff always makes you feel welcome and goes the extra mile. Wish it wasn't quite so noisy - makes it a little hard to talk sometimes. Brunch is amazing - I love to take guests there. Will keep going back.
Great place for a family birthday dinner or romantic date . Also like this place for business lunches. Love the twinkle lights. Desserts are wonderful, but waiters should warn - the dessert portions have grown HUGE! (not necessary in my opinion) Favorite lemon rosemary cake, while still delicious, didn't have the same wonderful rosemary taste/aroma I remember.
Quiet Tuesday evening visit, service was good and not overbearing.
