Chez Nous French Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Out of the way and not much parking or ambiance. However, probably some of the finest French cuisine in Houston. Escargots were in a perfect butter/garlic sauce. The Ceasar salad was light and delicious, not thick and gloopy. Main courses were just right - mine was spiced/grilled shrimp on risotto. The deserts were the best we've EVER had - a trio of soufflés that simply melted in our mouths.
We've been coming to Chez Nous for 25 years - on and off - for a total of two dozen times. They are always very good, but the last meal was absolutely the best.
We have enjoyed Chez Nous several times a year since it’s beginning and have never been disappointed in any aspect of the dining experience created by Chefs Stacy and Scott. Daniel and Paige keep the dining room running smooth and efficiently with a well trained staff. Daniel is an expert in selecting the perfect wine to pair with the food choices of any individual or table group.
Chez Nous has been a favorite of my wife and me since the late 1980's. It has simply never failed to provide a wonderful, comfortable and friendly evening. We always come away saying we need to dine there more often...we do go there 4 or 5 times per year. Nothing bad to say about this place...everything was perfect...again!
When we arrived they had a table reserved for us with little glass beads arranged perfectly and each table setting across from each other. My husband and I always sit next to each other, not across so we rearranged the settings to sit together. The hostess came over and asked if we'd rather sit at a table that had a soft bench seat so we could sit next to each other which was very thoughtful so we changed tables at her suggestion.
The entire dinner was absolutely incredible, we were so FULL afterwards! We were paying the check and they had a card to leave a note for them, as wonderful as the experience was and as tremendous as the food was I was so disappointed that even though I had indicated we were celebrating our anniversary, none of our servers had acknowledged it. We sat and watched several couples have their desserts brought out to them with a candle lit and "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate on the outer rim of the plate. We left the note inside with the check, and we walked out to our vehicle to leave. As we were about to leave the maître d' walked out of the restaurant and to the truck window and apologized for his staff not having acknowledged our anniversary. We told him it was okay and he said "No, it isn't okay. Our customers come here to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, big moments in life and we missed it for you both. I am going to talk to the staff to determine what happened and when you both come back we will make it up to you and do something extra special". We haven't heard anything back from the restaurant regarding what happened and why or how they missed acknowledging our anniversary. Not sure when we will go back or how they would even know it was us?
Even so, incredible food and service! Just left feeling a little disappointed. :/
This was our first experience and we will certainly return. The food was delicious, the presentation lovely, served hot, on time and all entrees together. The staff was very well trained and all were very attentive. Growing up in New Orleans and enjoying French cuisine, I would rate Chez Nous as a top contender for excellence. The decor was very inviting and warm.
This was my fourth time here. The New Zealand Rack of Lamb with Port Reduction was thoroughly delicious, and it was carved table side. I was relieved, because I don't like messing with all those bones and messiness. We also ordered the Blue Crab Tower, and it was refreshing! My favourite part was the chocolate souffle! It was AMAZING! The service was impeccable as well.
Great meal as always. The food is always delicious and the presentation is wonderful. Our only disappointment is that in order to have the wonderful soufflé for dessert on a Saturday, your reservation has to be 8:00 or later. That isn’t so late to finish this meal that we often are uncomfortable all night long. Please consider serving the soufflés to diners from 6:00 on.
We had an excellent French onion soup. A great chateaubriand and excellent rack of lamb. Service was attentive and informative. Excellent wine choices and the dessert soufflé was to die for. We had asked for separate checks and it would have been nice to have the checks itemized.
Second time here - not impressed with the food for highly rated restaurant. Seafood over cooked each time, the service is fast - which you don't expect at this type of restaurant. Then when asked for the soufflé - which most restaurants ask when you order- the waiter was almost put off that we wanted to wait 20 minutes for the soufflé . Food mediocre - however the soufflé is fabulous! This at least they do well.
This was an anniversary dinner and was a great location for a quiet, romantic meal. We selected the Prix Fixe menu and had were disappointed at 7 PM they were "out" of the Gulf Shrimp, Avocado, Lime and Cilantro Cocktail so smoked salmon was substituted and it was good. For the entree we selected the Bacon wrapped Roulade of Hereford Beef, Provimi Veal and Berkshire Pork, Sauce Bordelaise. This was a disappointing "meatloaf" that would have been better with more sauce and less filler in the roulade. But the “Porcupine” Souffle of Raspberry, Lemon and Pistachio with Creme Anglaise and Crème Brûlée with fresh Berries were excellent. If we went again we'd choose the Chateaubriand for 2. Apparently you can request they save you a parking space if you are there for a special occasion and know to ask - but the neighborhood parking situation is hit or miss otherwise.
My food ratings are based on this visit only - but we WOULD go back.
The service and food are unmatched. Thoroughly enjoyed both my favorite menu choices, and choices that are "out of the box" for me. My husband found a whiskey he's always wanted to try, and we both felt very cared for there. I enjoyed the low hum of other diners as the restaurant began to fill up on a Saturday night. Quiet, but happy. We look forward to coming back soon!
It's a 45-minute freeway drive from our home, so we don't go often. It's a destination restaurant for us, one that always enchants us with its French country decor and delicious French food. But this time, things seemed amiss. The service was excellent, as always. It was the food - and the menu - that seemed a bit off.
We looked at their restaurant week menu and it sounded perfect. But when we got there, not one item on the RW menu they showed us was the same. We brought it to the server's attention, even calling up the menu on the internet so she could see. She checked with Chef Stacy and told us we could have the appetizer our mouths were watering for (escargot) and the dessert (chocolate mousse), but they weren't prepared to served the entrees that were listed on the internet.
The choices on the "new" menu weren't nearly as good (to us), but we took the roulade as substitute. First, the roulade wasn't what we expected. For us, a roulade is fish or meat with an added attraction laid across the fish or meat, then rolled up and cooked. The Chez Nous roulade was nothing of the sort. It was a meatloaf, albeit a tasty meatloaf. Still a meatloaf, ringed with bacon and sliced. It was served with mashed potatoes and green beans and mixed veggies. The sides were good, but mundane. If I didn't know the quality of this restaurant, I would have said we were eating instant mashed potatoes (entirely too smooth, no potato lumps, and pretty tasteless). To add to our confusion, the roulade appeared to be what was on the "online" menu as an appetizer, billed as a "French country terrine": bacon-wrapped veal, duck and pork terrine with sauce charcuterie. Hmmmm.
The best part of the evening was a cocktail - house-infused vanilla vodka, house-made lavender syrup and a splash of soda. It may be the best cocktail I've ever had! I know I haven't been easy on them in this review, but fancy what it would be like if we hadn't started with a masterpiece of a cocktail!
This place will definitely be a regular occurrence! The food was by far some of the best my wife and I have ever tasted! Rack of Lamb and the Filet Mignon were spectacular. Also, the Crab tower appetizer was very refreshing! The wine was also recommended by the manager at the time and it was a French Cabernet Sauvignon that was delicious. It was a great buy at $75 bucks. Don't live your life without trying this place!
