Chez Noir is Jonny and Monique’s love letter to Monterey County, celebrating the region’s finest ingredients. We offer a thoughtfully crafted four-course menu in our dining room and on our patio, while our intimate six-seat bar features a selection of à la carte offerings. Honored with a Michelin star and twice nominated for James Beard Awards, we take pride in creating an exceptional dining experience that is both welcoming and relaxed. Our wine program highlights independent producers, offering an all-California wine pairing while also featuring selections from our favorite European houses to complement our menu.

De la part des éditeur·rice·s d'OpenTable: Fine dining power couple Jonny and Monique Black came from star restaurants like Atelier Crenn and Quince in SF, and Pineapple & Pearls in DC, before opening their own bistro Chez Noir on the California Coast. It’s put Carmel back on the map as a dining destination, earing a MICHELIN Star and James Beard nods for Best Chef and Best New Restaurant. A gray craftsman house with a stone veranda welcomes you into a splashy blue-and-white dining room, where a four-course menu showcases the wild seafood, mushrooms, and other treasures of the Monterey Peninsula.

    Mes Amis, a Guest Chef Series welcoming our friends, colleagues, and mentors into our kitchen to collaborate with our team. Dinner will be a four course tasting menu for $215 per person with an optional $110 Wine Pairing. Trevor Moran made his U.S. culinary debut in January 2014 as the executive chef of Strategic Hospitality’s award-winning tasting room, The Catbird Seat. Moran left The Catbird Seat in December of 2015 but his love for Nashville remained. He joined the Strategic Hospitality team as Culinary Consultant in 2016, assisting throughout the restaurants and off-site events. In October of 2020, Moran partnered with Strategic Hospitality to open Locust in the 12South neighborhood of Nashville. The restaurant, which Moran opened with the intention of versatility, launched with a menu largely focused on seafood, dumplings, and shaved ice. Today, in 2023, Locust continues to be fully, uncompromisingly, and unapologetically itself, featuring a menu that leans into Moran’s Irish roots and past experiences in some of the world’s most prestigious kitchens. With a present focus on modern, classical cooking, seafood, and precise sauce work, the menu represents the Irish and British fare that Moran was first introduced to as a young chef. In September 2022, Locust was named Food & Wine Magazine’s Restaurant of the Year and honored on The New York Times’ Restaurant List 2022. In January 2023, Chef Trevor Moran was nominated as semifinalist for Best Chef: Southeast by the James Beard Foundation. Born and raised in Ireland, Moran’s culinary path began in his early 20’s. After working his way through several restaurants throughout Dublin, the young chef landed at Rene Redzepi’s acclaimed Noma restaurant in Copenhagen. Moran began his Noma journey in 2009 and spent nearly four and a half years learning the ins-and-outs of the Nordic kitchen, sourcing local, seasonal products that showcased different regions of Scandinavia. A 20% service charge will be applied to the final bill.

    Katie was a great server - knowledgeable and attentive. The dishes from the amuse-bouche to the pâté , the trout, the abalone, the clam pasta salad, the lamb, the rock fish, and the chocolate sorbet - all delicious and repeats. Indulge in the $50 caviar champagne because you only live once.

    Phenomenal dining experience. Ambiance is quaint and charming. Service was excellent. Food courses well thought out, beautifully presented, and of highest quality. Every course was a tasting experience. Not to mention the caviar martinis being a huge hit! Will be visiting frequently.

    One of the best dining experiences in the US! We will go there every time we are in Carmel. They deserve Michelin stars.

    My husband and I went here for our honeymoon dinner. Chez Noir is exquisite. Truly a once in a lifetime experience. I felt like we not only got a delicious meal but an artistic experience. Amazing, friendly, and knowledgeable staff that provided exceptional service. This is a must try restaurant.
