Three of us have a lovely and a relaxed evening in the back dining room, our first experience in that area. Our wait person, Troy, was attentive and wonderful although very busy in both front and rear rooms. The only negative was a couple in the center of the back dining room who thought that their conversation should be heard by everyone. They were young and thoughtless and very full of themselves. We will, of course, continue to return to our favorite bistro!
The mussels were very good indeed. Went for Mussel fest which is all you can eat. They were so flavorful. The steak and Frites were enjoyed by my husband. Make sure you save room for the best dessert ever. It is the shortbread cake with icecream. Has a french name on menu but it is the best dessert ever!!!! get it everytime I go.
What a great discovery!
This is a true French bistro, with very well executed and authentic French dishes we thoroughly enjoyed! A special mention for the deserts. When we started eating them… we couldn’t talk anymore, as we were so absorbed in enjoying the moment…
Great French Bistro that had all the hits. Good food. Fun time. Great atmosphere. Seemed like a place I would go again as I like the neighborhood feel of this restaurant.
We love this place and have been coming here for years. The past two times we have been here they seem to have missed the mark. The food was just not on par to what we have experienced in the past, but we have such a loyalty to this place that perhaps we just have been hitting it on some off nights. We will be back - and hoping that next time the consistency of food will be back on track.
Wonderful food. We started with cocktails and I ordered a sidecar and requested it be made with grand marnier, and I found it to be one of the best I've ever had. The cheese course was an excellent first course. The goat cheese salad comes with a ball of breaded and fried goat cheese, very delicious. For our entrees we tried the salmon and the skate wing. Both were perfectly cooked. The apple tart was good but the Gateau Breton Salidou was just a tad dry.
Compared to other French bistros in the city, I found Chez Moi to be average.
I had Onion soup is was just OK. The cheese in it looked cuddled. Never seen that before. And for my main, Steak au poivre. The sauce was not as flavorful as I have had.
This is a lovely, comfortable friendly French restaurant. Perfect for getting together with friends. Easy to have a conversation. The food is consistently wonderful and they have a very good wine list.
Overall great experience. Waiter was knowledgeable, accommodating and paced the meal just right. The food was all delicious; onion soup, escargot, trout, salad, duck and apple tart. Wine was perfect with the meal. The quality is so much better for a minimal amount more.
Took my wife and teenage kids to Chez Moi as a pre-birthday celebration. As such, we ordered liberally and shared bites so that everyone could try. The several French 75's were super refreshing! Let's just say that everyone was super impressed and more than happy with our experience.....from start to finish. For me, THE main item was that no plates were removed until ALL people were done eating a course. That's such a basic must have for fine dining. I'm constantly amazed at how this rule is not followed around town. Good job Chez Moi!! We'll be back.
Was looking for a reasonable N. Side bistro to replace the recently-shuttered (and charmingly quirky) Chez Simo. Chez Moi came up first on Open Table, and being familiar with the area (Ba Ba Ree Ba, the late great Charlie Trotter's) we pounced on the first available reservation. Only then did I notice that there was no valet, only "street parking." So I used Spot Hero, found a lot just a few doors north, and booked that. Bad idea: the lot does not exist! Had to park around the corner in the only available spot, which was zone-permit. Worry about being ticketed was the only unpleasant experience. (Spot Hero refunded us and gave us an extra credit).
Service was prompt but not rushed. Small but well-curated by-the-glass wine list . Shared the mussels and eagerly drank the broth. Husband had the frites and the excellent bread (neither of which, being a keto dieter, I could eat). Entrees were two specials: I had the seared scallops, which were perfect--and they let me sub out grilled veggies for the polenta. Husband ordered the beef Wellington medium-rare, but it came extremely rare--cold almost raw center. (Order it one stage better done than you usually do). Also shared spinach in cream (which was not "creamed spinach") which was excellent and let us control the fat level.
We were way too full to order dessert or even cheese--in fact, we had to pack half our food! The kitchen even labeled each container so there was no guesswork in our fridge tonight.
The only thing that'd keep us from returning is the currently-outrageously high pandemic rideshare prices and scarcity of taxis--since a legal parking spot is not "in the cards" and public transit is too far (.6 mi) for a pair of septuagenarians. (We didn't get a ticket, thank goodness). However, that doesn't mean we wouldn't order out if we could temporarily double-park. (We well might do that next time, though our home doesn't deliver Chez Moi's charming Parisian ambience),
The food was outstanding! We really enjoyed the apple tart/pie. The mushroom ravioli was exquisite. My husband had the onion soup and loved it. We also we’re offered a free sample of their red wine blend (primarily merlot). Truly a delightful experience!
Food wasn’t great hesitated to order main course because plater and French onion soup was terrible is a French restaurant!! So ordered frog legs they were okay. Spend 130$ here on appetizers and wine witch was great but the restaurant don’t make it so make sense.
Service the night we went was not good. People around us had the same issues and complained. The food was terrific. Probably the best onion soup I've had ever. Drinks were very weak (French Martini) and was $14.
Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was perfect- attentive but not overbearing. Particularly delicious this time were the tuna tartare and the lamb! What a gem!
Perfectly lovely evening at the sidewalk cafe seating for this Lincoln Park restaurant. Service was knowledgeable and charming. Delicious food & drink. Highly recommend.
Another excellent dining experience at Chez Moi. Met with friends for dinner. Yulia was again our server and she superbly ensured we had a terrific time. Merci!
We enjoyed the rack of lamb and profiteroles. Recommend. Outdoor dining an option also; we were indoors where with full house the noise level is energetic.
Chez Moi delivers an authentic French dining experience. Check out the menu, but focus on the chef’s specials of the day. You will not be disappointed!
The first French Bistro in Chicago that we are enthusiastic about. Nice variety on menu and interesting specials. Fairly priced. Good by the glass French wines. Very good service.
Overall, great service, food and wine. AC was not working - so we chose to eat outside.
Very delicious French food served beautifully. We eat here fairly often and tried some new dishes that were wonderful. The seafood platter inc Branzino, shrimp, mussels, etc with a wonderful breere blanc sauce. Coq au vin, scrumptious. My husband cleaned his plate. Always good but last night was really wonderful.
Chez Moi was ON yesterday evening on all counts. Service, food, ambiance were all fantastic, flavorful and fun. A definite location to return to and or visit for the first time.
our first time here for my birthday - great service and delicious food. will be coming back.
Lovely evening. Once again every thing perfect. Our waiter Troy was lovely.
Couldn’t ask for better
The food is consistently good but the service can be fair to horrid. Last night we waited nearly two hours with only a basket of bread. They have us a free glass of wine as compensation. I understand we are in strange days and staffing is tough but no one even bothered coming to our table to explain that the kitchen was backed up or communicating in a way that would quality as attention/service.
We had a lovely dinner outside, as always, celebrating a birthday! ☺️ the service and ambiance were so welcoming, and the food is our favorite in Lincoln park - delicate authentic flavors!
simply amazing. so accommodating even when we showed up early for our reservation.
Great place for authentic French food and service.
Excellent food and service, as usual! Love Chez Mou!
The kitchen was struggling
Excellent food and very good service. Will certainly return
A Thursday evening gathering of 3 friends - one with a b'day - we were able to have a leisurely drink, offer nearly every appetizer on the menu and shared as "our food" , had a glass of wine - ordered dessert (ALWAYS get the "gateau" - it ROCKS), had coffee and port. Never felt rushed or even a glance at askance. Chef Dom came out to chat - as did the GM - SO welcoming - friendly staff, flawless service and exceptional food. ALWAYS on my list!
Food and service were great...we were under a vent and air conditioning was quite cold...waiter turned up temperature twice
We love Chez Moi. The food is always delicious and we love the classic French menu. Service is terrific and it’s a charming environment.
As a French man, maybe the best French restaurant from Chicago
A quaint french restaurant in Lincoln Park. Great food, good atmosphere, affordable prices. Will definitely be back.
Amazing food, ambiance, decor… Jordy our server was the best! Salut!!
Food and service are consistently superb. Shout out to Troy, a great waiter.
Chez Moi never disappoints, always excellent food and service. Get a table outside on Dickens, great for people watching.
