My husband and I enjoy celebrating our birthdays and anniversaries at Chez Melange on a regular basis. We are never disappointed. The food and cocktails are always excellent and this evening was no exception. We highly recommend it.
Wife requested that I take her here for Mothers Day because of the recasting of the main dining room as the Sea Change. Food was great as is often the case with Robert Bell restaurants and the price was reasonable (for food and wine). We will probably eat here more often.
Overall the seafood was very tasty., however it appears that they have reduced the size of their portions.
So glad they are now open for lunch , will Back soon
My husband and I had not been to Chez Melange for several years, just due to distance. We went back for our anniversary and we loved it! The new Seafood menu was outstanding! We had a hard time deciding what to order because of all the options. We started wth the Calamari, then split the Southern Fried Chicken Salad and ended with a mixed seafood dish, similar to Cioppino that had the absolute best flavored, light sauce that I have ever had! We sat in the seafood dining area but the Oyster bar next to us had a great buzz of people in there having a good time but it didn't disturb the peacefulness in the main dining room. We also thought the bar in the front of the restaurant had a nice ambiance although we didn't have time to stop for a drink. We will definitely go back more often and have told several of our foodie friends about how good it was.
Best "nice" restaurant in Redondo Beach. We were there on a married couple's date night. Each time we eat at Michael Franks' we are never disappointed. We were given very professional wait service by "Gerry" from France. He was very knowledgeable of the details of the menu. He made our meal a very fun adventure. Can't wait to go back.

A true gem in the South Bay! We came here for dinner last night and everything was absolutely exceptional!
The front of the restaurant is a bar / gastropub with a cozy atmosphere with great beer, wine and cocktail selection, outdoor seating with a fire pit (and dog friendly!)
Through the back you have the Oyster bar and the restaurant area. The service was fabulous - our waiter was very knowledgable and attentive, had great suggestions and knowledge about the menu. The seafood is always super fresh and all of the vegetables are locally sourced at the farmer's market. The menu has so many options in a wide range of prices. The owner came over to chat with us twice - a very sweet man you can tell he really loves his restaurant and the people love working there!
After cocktails (the list is extensive and all sounded so great) We started with the Hamachi Sashimi appetizer which was served with avocado and grapefruit - perfectly prepared! I got the Halibut served with English Peas and Fava Beans and mint basil pesto. The fish was cooked exactly right and a very good portion - much larger than what you would get at other (overpriced) upscale seafood restaurants. The flavors were so good!
My boyfriend got the Zarzuela - a take on a traditional spanish seafood stew. Basically a large bowl of delicious seafood with a tomato seasoned broth (which was more like a sauce and absolutely delicious!) It came with a tasty french baguette to dip in the sauce and we ate every last bite.
For dessert we got the Key Lime Tart and they also brought us out a chocolate type mouse (which had a thicker texture and whipped cream) as an extra treat. They have a special pastry chef who makes all of their desserts so you aren't getting something that has been frozen. Oh my gosh the flavors! So so yummy.
We will definitely be back and recommend this place to everyone in the area!

Open table wa misleading it had open slot for lunch at 12:39, but when we got there, the restruant is closed and we were told it only opens for dinner.

Good food as always. The sea bass was amazing. Enjoyed a drink in the bar first. So glad they have a knowledgeable somalier. Service was first rate too.
hard to find places like this anymore that are accessible... the wait staff was on the spot, great vibe with high end cuisine and hand crafted cocktails... can't wait to go back!
Food was very well-prepared. Service was excellent. Space is a bit strange - seems like an after thought with the bar being the main attraction. Will definitely return.

This restaurant is an excellent combination of outstanding food, excellent service and reasonable prices. It is a true neighborhood gem. I have been to few restaurants where the staff is more engaged throughout your visit. We were greeted warmly coming through the door and were consistently thanked or otherwise shown appreciation throughout the evening. The staff is very knowledgeable about the items on their menu and more than willing to assist with recommendations on both food and wine. The menu features a broad diversity of options, all done well and the raw bar offerings could not be more fresh. I am not one that typically writes reviews based on a single dining experience, but I have now been to this restaurant 4 times over a period of 6 months and it has consistently delivered an excellent dining experience. I highly recommend that you give it a try - you will not be disappointed.
Disappointed because the reviews gave me high hopes. Service was awful. I asked the waitress if someone called in sick; they did not. Food was good but not great. Ambience was lacking.
This is a wonderful restaurant and certainly one of the best in the South Bay. I love their new seafood menu format and would also note that they have other options for those who want something else. Very friendly, welcoming staff and casual yet smartly sophisticated setting.

The new seafood-focused menu still accommodates carnivores and vegetarians. Wonderful selection of seafood, some of which is rarely available in most establishments. Nice, fairly priced, wine selection. We had moose cake for dessert- outstanding. We understand the great pastry chef once associated with the restaurant has now returned. Nice elegant atmosphere for "grown-ups", not trying to be overly trendy and noisy. Thankfully, most patrons have the good sense to leave their electronic devices where they should be while dining- out of sight.
The reviews told us we were in for a treat, and these wonderful folks exceeded all our expectations! The personal and prompt attention (without hovering), the cheerful and helpful suggestions, the outstanding dishes - all made our date night an absolute delight! It couldn’t have been more perfect!

Outstanding food, great selection of local (California) brewed beers. Dessert was a fresh apple tart with heavy whipped cream and espresso, perfect end to a delicious meal. It was very busy when I arrived at 7:15pm for my 7:30pm reservation, plan accordingly.

Although the food and service were good this visit was a bit disappointing. The restaurant is one of my favorites in South Bay and we have been patrons for many years. This time, however, I found the selection limited and significantly increased prices. The quality of food is still good but not exceptional and creative as we learned to expect from this place. Perhaps after the Valentines day the chef took some time off, or we were just unlucky that several dishes we wanted ran out, not sure but the experience was just ok. Hoping this was a one-off experience and will be back in a while to see if it is back to par.

Chez Melange never disappoints us. We enjoyed the escargot, the shrimp, the prime rib, the duck, the chocolate cake, and the pumpkin cheesecake. In addition, their cocktails are outstanding, as well as their service.
The service was good and the foods were not bad. The grilled octopus appetizer was the smallest starter I'd ever seen.
Menu is innovative. I always love to have Gary (our favorite server) surprise me with the entrée.
My wife’s dinner was undercooked and there was a hair in our dessert. At a fine dining restaurant, one doesn’t expect to have these issues happen.

With a new menu with additional seafood and fish dishes, this restaurant is perfect for a pescatarian. Their small plates, veggies, and salads are perfect for 4 or more who want several appetizers to share. In fact, you may want to get 4 or 5 small plates (for 2 people) and make a meal out of them. The service is friendly and wine list is great. Even though there was a music duo playing in the pub in front, we could not hear it in the restaurant in the back. Perfect atmosphere for a special occasion or just a friends' dinner.

New menu is an improvement over the previous Chez Melange menu. But the food is unremarkable.
Michael Franks is a long time fixture in Redondo Beach. He has consistently updated his fare and kept Chez Melange new and fresh. The new seafood menu is wide ranging with a few items that you may not find elsewhere. It is also nice when the owner is there to make sure you have a great experience. Above all, the food and service were over and above what one finds here in the South Bay.
