Delicious. Would return again and again.
The chicken alone is worth a return visit.
No wonder this busy Greenpoint restaurant has such rave reviews. The food was absolutely delicious from the super fresh oysters to the sweet and sticky apple tart and everything in between. We liked it so much we went back for brunch on the weekend. Oh man the pancakes were so good.....crispy around the edges and soft and sweet with real maple syrup in the middle. Yum!
Crowded! We made reservations but were seated almost 15 minutes late, though everyone was very nice about it. Pancakes are worth the hype. Restaurant is a bit plain-looking, and I'm not sure if anything besides the pancakes are any good.
They sat us 30 minutes past our reservation. Most of the food was very salty.
Tartare was delicious!! and service was very good!
Great ambiance w a stylized, but eclectic menu. The pressed chicken was out of this world. We had the Caesar Salad and French Fries for apps; never imagined it would be so right. They have a small but very good and reasonable wine list as well as a great cocktail list. We will be back there soon.
Livesupto its reviews although they ran out of two of the best things at a late brunch. Lovely service.
Insanely good pancakes and breakfast sandwich
Went to Chez Ma Tante for New Years Eve. Was not informed that the menu would be Pre Fixe beforehand, but was pleased with the set menu for the night. I would suggest the restaurant getting a few coat hooks since we had to place ours on the backs of our seats.
We were seated next to a window which seemed fine at first but less so around the middle of the first course of a freezing night!
Service was lovely which a very friendly and attentive waitress and house staff who made sure our water and wine glasses were never empty. Food service was also quick and efficient.
Food was great. Complimentary oysters and champagne were included as a starter. Stracciatella cheese with kale and mushrooms was creamy, earthly and delightful. Steak au poivre was made with a Wagyu cut which was tender, peppery and indulgent. This was served with crispy french fries piping hot and straight out of the fryer.
Chocolate cake for dessert was rich and a nice ending note.
Best pancakes in NYC and amazing service. This place is a true neighborhood gem.
New place in old neighborhood did not disappoint! It was, indeed, an amazing Caesar salad, and fries, and chicken!! Can’t wait to go back and try pancakes. I’m very excited!
What a wonderful treat. We loved our brunch, especially the pancakes, stracciatella kale with anchovies, home made sausage and egg sandwich. Huge portions and we were only two people. Had to limit our selections. We took what we couldn't finish because it was too good to leave behind. The drinks were also great - loved the dandelion wine as a very interesting mixer. Friendly and caring staff checked on us to be sure we had what we wanted and that all was good. Beautiful, bright, open room with clean lines and mostly white interior was extremely welcoming and calming. Just a great place to spend our lazy Sunday enjoying gorgeous, perfectly prepared, hearty feast. Loved our window table. But really, the restaurant's corner location seemed to provide most tables with nice window and privacy, but still feeling part of the easy-going scene. Eager to return for dinner, which I understand is even better than the brunch!
I came here with four friends not knowing what to expect. We ordered five different entrees, and were floored by every single one. The food is delicious, even the vegetarian options. you simply can't go wrong with this restaurant. I'll be back very soon!
PS: I had the chicken, to die for
Really impeccably seasoned food and service. We had the oysters, cod and pork shoulder. The restaurant isn't large but is laid out well to not feel crowded. Definitely looking forward to return to try more of the menu.
1 of 3 appetizers were terrific - the stracciatella with greens was the winner. The chicken liver pate was uninteresting at best, whipped fine with very little else going for it and the mussels with beans were also bland with a tasting note that was off. Can't speak for anyone else on main courses but for me the skate wing was delicious and ruined by a mustard sauce dropped onto it instead of being placed on the side - totally ruined the dish as it was hard to scrape off the taste - the skate itself was beautifully done and very tasty. The accompanying leeks came coolish vs. hot - maybe just my preference but on a main some temperature would have been neccessary. Also our reason for going was the pig head terrine which was not available - have read many times that this was the case. Obviously I would not recommend - sad to say as lots of press had us make this our choice for a 4 person birthday event. FYI, wine was delicious and the wine adviser/waitress well knew what each wine was - she picks them for the restaurant - a nice touch for me as a wine drinker.
Great innovative food extremely delicious. White wine choice not so great (only very sweet wines)
Great place with great food
We really enjoyed our meal. Delicious good, gracious service. A neighborhood jem.
The food at Chez Ma Tante was quite good. We started the meal off with tuna tartar and then shared (and enjoyed!) the cod and chicken. The noise, however, was close to intolerable. We left without coffee/dessert just to get away from the din.
Great meal. Great service.
Another Brooklyn restaurant you wish were in your neighborhood (Queens).
I rarely make it to Greenpoint, but when I read about Chez Ma Tante opening, I had to make the trip. It took a while for me to get there, but it was heaven once I arrived. The restaurant is quaintly positioned on the corner with a warm and welcoming vibe that lures you in. Every single dish we ordered was spectacular. The oysters we so brilliantly paired with parsley oil, offering just the right amount of accoutrement without overpowering the inherent saltiness of the sea. The Caesar salad (which I almost steered away from in an effort to avoid being "basic") was incredible - the freshest mix of what appeared to be local/organic greens seasoned to perfection. The steak tartare and the stracciatella appetizers complimented each other perfectly. The chicken was the main event, which was so tender and flavorful that I ordered a second to bring home to my roommate. Between the interior design, the presentation, the friendly service, and the unparalleled meal, I will DEFINITELY be back.
REally tasty, fresh prepared food without going crazy in the "fusion" direction or trying too hard. They do basic dishes really really well. The setting is nice, almost understated - white on white and the service is outstanding. Attention to detail is evident, yet it feels very relaxed which is the perfect balance for me.
My friend's fish had a ton of bones in it, which I'm pretty sure was a mistake? but my dish, the cod, was very flavorful and different. the Lemon tart for dessert was absolutely delicious. the cocktails are straight-forward, nothing out of the ordinary
Understated, unpretentious wonderful new restaurant in Williamsburg/Greenpoint. Delicious chicken liver pate , an extremely flavorful ceasar salad ,very tasty and succulent chicken, followed by a palate cleansing apple sorbet doused in vodka, put this small cozy restaurant on the top of my list of places to revisit again and again. Very much looking forward to sampling more of this young chef’s delicious dishes in the very near future.
Inventive menu, with a new take on french food. Definitely try the Steak Tartar and the Half Chicken was also delicious. Wine list was a excellent mix of eclectic and predictable. I will be going back.
Wonderful food, inventive cooking, lively place with inexperienced servers....unfortunately not up to the high level of the kitchen. Everyone knows you pour a taste of wine before you fill the glasses....basic stuff. Also a little too eager to overfill the wine glasses and sell a second bottle....before the entrees arrived...we were only three people.
The food however was really good....interesting, assertive, generous....delicious!
Worth a return visit.
This is literally the best and most creative new restaurant in New York City. It CANNOT be missed. Go now.
Excellent food, horrible drinks. Ceasar was superb as was the kohlrabi caper salad. The pate melted in your mouth. Pork shoulder and steak tartar also worth calling out as they were amazing. However, we recommend you stick to wine as the cocktails were terrible. The Mule had zero ginger beer and we ordered a vodka gimlet that was all lemon juice and undrinkable.
Went for an anniversary and had a wonderful time. The food was creative, but accessible and delicious. The wine list was short but interesting, and the hostess did an excellent job recommending something that we loved. Will definitely be going back.
Went based on a positive review from The Infatuation, which emphasized the quality of the food, albeit a short menu. Went with my wife; we had caesar salad & chicken liver pate for starters, falafel and pork shoulder w lentils as mains and shared a lemon tart for dessert. Food was excellent from beginning to end (esp starters; pork was perhaps a bit over-spiced). Fantastic and attentive wait staff. Decent red wine by the glass. No decor to speak of, but that's not critical to us. Well worth the trip from Manhattan; we are planning a return visit with a larger group of friends in the near future. It was a pleasure to eat in a restaurant where the food was prepared perfectly and with care - at a reasonable price. Hats off the the team making this place tick!
one of the best new restaurants in brooklyn. worth a visit (or two or three)! great food, service, cocktails, and ambiance.
5* in every way. Decided to head into Brooklyn instead of dining in Manhattan. Rekindled the excitement of dining with a young enthusiastic chef instead of eating with the dinosaurs in Manhattan. Food was an exciting and creative take on traditional classics. Kohlrabi and Green Apple Salad- the freshest and cleanest modern take on Streak Tartare - grilled Pork Shoulder with creamy succulent lentils, and molten chocolate cake to die for. WOW
We really wanted to love this place, but found it average at best and lacking at worst. Maybe it was a bad night for our waitress? Maybe it was the moon phase?
