It’s been four years since my last visit and with the exception of one dish, the food was no where near where it used to be. This will be my last visit to one of my old favorites.
This place was phenomenal! The service and the food were impeccable as well as the cocktails. The pianist was extremely talented. Can't wait to return!
Good food nice ambiance with live piano music
A wonderful experience from the moment we were met st the door. The staff was friendly, accommodating, professional; the food was superb; the ambience, elegant; and the music fabulous. A memorable evening!
We frequently have brunch here on Sunday and are never disappointed. Reservations honored with quick seating. The staff is lovely. The food is delicious, and the piano player just adds to the ambiance. Love this restaurant for brunch.
Food, service and and atmosphere very good, of course, we will recommend and be back soon.
It is always so wonderful to go back to Chez Josephine. It is always the same as the years pass, and yet as fresh as new.
Chez Joséphine is a real treat, we enjoyed it tremendously. Our server Valentine was so gracious and helpful. We will be back!
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. We ate at a table near the piano and enjoyed delightful music with our delicious food & excellent wine. A very festive spot!
Very good food at a reasonable price. Service is friendly and prompt, and you can’t beat the offbeat kitschy ambiance. The piano player is wonderful!
As a survivor from the original Theatre Row (both myself and Chez Josephine) it is always a welcome moment to walk in the door from 42nd Street, especially with the evening piano adding to the ambiance. Food French and reliably excellent, drinks stiff, decor scandalous.
Dining at Chez Josephine is welcoming and familiar even though in a big city. We were always made to feel at home. We are glad to see the great food, wonderful service and musical atmosphere live on. Hats off to Manuel and his fine team.
We truly appreciated the piano music when we were there last week.
This is my favorite restaurant in all of NYC and my hubby and I go every year (at least) on our Wedding Anniversary. This year we celebrated ouur 38th there!
Excellent food service live music. First floor can get crowded. Upstairs more intimate and one can still hear the live music
I didn't have the chance to dinne. When I made the reservation it didn't mention at all that the restaurant would work only with valentine's day special menu. A closed 85 dollars menu! We just got to know that by the time we were seated and they handed the valentines menu. The restaurant was packed, really loud music, and the waiters running around like crazy. We decided to leave since we were not prepared for that situation. It's a shame, since the restaurant was really well recommended. They should have announced that on the website, or by the time you make the reservation, warning about the special menu in that day.
This was a beautiful place to come for wine dinner and dessert and especially for Valentine’s Day. The layout of the restaurant and the people working was amazing. And the food complemented together perfectly it was delicious
Hadn’t visited for a few years, happily the experience is just as wonderful as I remember. Took my Valentine sweetie, his first experience . Place was full, a pre fix menu. Despite that, the service was excellent and the food delicious. Lovely entertainment, overall a great evening.
This was my 3rd or 4th visit and unfortunately will be my last, even tho it's extremely convenient to theaters next door. Service was poor: had to ask twice for drink, and then a split of champagne came, instead of a single glass at 50% more, entrees were originally wrong, had to search for waitstaff whenever needed. Then, the food was just ordinary: steak was tough, bread tasteless, fried chicken not good and came with stale blueberry muffin. And, where we were seated was right next to the pianist, who only took brief breaks between songs and it was so loud we couldn't hear each other. He played the entire hour and a half we were there.
Happy to report after many years, decades since we’ve been to Chez Josephine, that the brunch there was an absolute delight.
Quality of food and service still quite high and the ambiance reminds one of charming past of the theater district.
We came here for NY restaurant week and was amazingly surprised. The food was very good, and special. The French union soup had a generous layer of cheese on top and a thick layer of unions at the bottom which was very satisfying. The best part of the prix fixe menu was the beef cheek that we had never seen elsewhere. The beef cheek was tender and stingy at the same time and very tasty. The live piano music was a plus for the evening.
