Absolutely delicious food and amazing ambiance! The Josephine Baker memorabilia was an added plus. Tres bon!
Service was very good as was the food. Escargot and the Duck Breast were outstanding. The piano player is a nice touch. Atmosphere is dark and romantic.
The food was good but not great. They were out of French Onion soup which is a staple for a French restaurant so that was a disappointing start. It is a very limited menu of you do not eat seafood.
Very atmospheric - almost defines what a bistro can be. And despite having only 3 servers on the floor the service was more than acceptable given that the place was at capacity. A lovely, festive brunch.
Always a fun place. Lively and noisy. Great service and good food! Piano player and strolling singer. A must for Mew York!
Reservations are meaningless. Made one and waited 25 minutes for the Maitre D’.
25 minutes late from our reservations, food was late so we had to eat quite fast to make our show. And waited in the cold outside for 10 minutes waiting for others on front of us to be seated. They were clearly overcommitted for the evening
Superb service ... the food was outstanding...,, a beautiful way to relax from a busy day and recharge for the evening. We LOVED everything. The music added to the ambiance. We remarked that for a bit we thought we were in Paris
Food was good. Was short staffed so service was very slow
Food was very good, mildly seasoned. Servers were very attentive.
The unexpected treat was LIVE piano music quietly playing in the background. Overall, 5 stars. I would return.
Loved the lobster ravioli!!!
Food was well prepared and presented. Timing was impeccable since we had to make a show. The dining experience was great
Wow! Something terrible is going on at Chez Josephine. The only good thing we could say about our experience is that the decor is charming and the piano player played nicely. The service and food made us wonder if they are going out of business. We arrived a little before 11:00 am for an 11:15 brunch and were the second group in the door, so the wait-staff had nothing to do and the kitchen was obviously not backed up. We waited a half-hour before a waiter strolled up to take our order. After waiting for forty five minutes we were just about to blow the whole thing off and leave when three orders appeared , with the fourth order missing entirely. Fifteen minutes later, as we were putting on our coats to leave the restaurant, a luke-warm ham and cheese sandwich (pretending to be a croque monsieur) appeared at our table. Very clearly it had been forgotten when the first orders were cooked and then hastily slapped together in the kitchen. the person who ordered that meal only had time for two bites before we had to run off to make our 1:00 pm curtain time. One had the impression that this restaurant is going under. The waiters appeared to have been pulled in off the street and given no training. The chef appears to be AWOL. We'll never go back.
We came for a pre-theater dinner and it was just incredible! We sat in the window seat and it was perfect! Great service and food and drinks or the incredible! Highly recommend this restaurant!
Very surprised that none of staff wore masks
this is a first class, totally new york experience. the service is super, the ambience is charming and the food outstanding. the cassoulet is special and the chicken and trout almodine devine! Piano player adds to the atmosphere of warmth and excitement!
Chez Josephine has a vibe like no other place in NYC. The food is excellent, but the place itself is sublime. Baroquely colorful interior and that black grand perched in the middle. Fab with a capital F.
We had a great time. Love this touch of Paris in NYC.
On the occasion of Josephine’s reinterrment in the pantheon in Paris, we returned to Josephine restaurant. The dinner was excellent and the service coul not have been better. I love the decor!
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner last night. However, we had made a reservation for outdoors and when we arrived it wasn't available due to lack of heaters. But they gave us a private room in the back which was great.
Andres (the manager I believe) was LOVELY! They were clearly understaffed (pretty normal these days) and he never got stressed, was so pleasant and dedicated to good service, and friendly and warm. Was a lovely experience.
It was very disappointing to find out when our reservations were at 11:45 a.m. the restaurant did not open until noon. In addition the chef wasn't even on the premises. He was running late. We had a Broadway show at 2 p.m. and need to leave by 1:30 and received our food at 1:20. Needless to say I do not believe we will go back. However the food was good and prices were very reasonable. Check in before you arrive.
The food was delicious! The service was extremely attentive and the piano in the background was great!
We had a great pre-theater dinner. Service led by Alfredo was excellent.
This restaurant is such a gem. Haven’t been there is decades and it’s still as marvelous an atmosphere as it was back then. Service was attentive. Food was enjoyable.
Good ambiance and service. Live music was also pretty good (although a bit loud), but the food was very disappointing. Mediocre at best.
We had reservations at 5:45, and tickets to an 8pm show. Service was dreadfully slow. Food did not arrive at our table until 7:27. Food was good, but had to inhale it in order to arrive on time to the show.
There were 5 of us. The service was great, the food was delicious. One member of our party was late and they could not have been more gracious!
The quail was awesome and so were the cocktails..I had the spice margarita.. the duck was really good as well.
Lovely restaurant with beautiful piano serenade and good food. If you or a guest have difficulty with stairs, suggest trying another restaurant - it’s a steep climb to the restroom.
Loved it glad to go to one of our favorite restaurants.
Great time! Great service! Great food! Great piano!
My granddaughter and I had the most delicious lunch in a cozy nook by the window. Our waiter was great and we loved everything about the restaurant. Will definitely return.
Everything was awesome! Food was great and staff was super nice. But I have to say that the best thing was Luis the young pianist playing amazingly! He is really special. Made our night so so so especially romantic !!
A great Thanksgiving dinner. A nice crowd, great music, great drinks. Great atmosphere, great service.
An elegant and nostalgic atmosphere with delicious food excellent service.
Thanksgiving dinner was spectacular. We enjoyed a seafood meal that started with the crab cake appetizer, followed by entrees of Chilean sea bass & seared scallops, and finished with apple tart. The Cote-du-Rhone wine was a perfect complement. Professional service and the live piano music was a nice touch. The ambiance is always amazing. Chez Josephine never disappoints!
My favorite neighborhood spot. Food, ambiance, service, live music - everything is great!
Just phenomenal! ♥️
