Excellent food and service. Highly recommend the Manhattan and the scallops
Chez Josephine is as charming as ever. The food was good, though, not exceptional. Poussin was flavorful though the chicken seemed over cooked. Cocktails were delicious and innovative. The service was rather uneven. Very long wait for the entrée and then the wrong side was included. This was quickly remedied.
The wait staff was very hurried and seemed somewhat overwhelmed perhaps a staffing issue in this crazy post Covid environment.
In the final analysis, this place is still a New York treasure.
Would recommend for the atmosphere but the food is mediocre. Live piano is lovely and the cocktails were good!
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, food great as well. Piano in the background was perfect.
Excellent service. Great ambiance and great food!
Don't miss it!
Service, food, and atmosphere were spot on ... a fun night as always.
Reopening of Broadway.
Love Chez Josephine! An amazing place for a unique dining experience! Between the decor and entertainment, I felt like I was in an old time French Bistro. The service was top notch, and the food was delicious! I will definitely be going back 🥰
Fun pre-theater restaurant!
Had a spot by the window which made it fun people-watching.
Fantastic service. Lovely piano music. Steak Tartare was on the money.
The food is scrumptous! Love the onion and mushroom soups!
very enjoyable experience. Music and ambiance was wonderful.
elegant atmosphere. Great food. Quiet corner table. Good music. totally enjoyable experience
Gabe the piano player was amazing And our waiter went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect This would definitely be my go to place if we lived here. But will definitely come back here every time we come to NY
Great atmosphere, and great service. Food was delicious!! Pianist was on point as well!
The ambiance and service were excellent. The food overall was delicious although the escargot appetizer was a bit disappointing (a little too much butter and oil).
Chez Josephine is a gem of a French bistro in the heart of the Theater District. The food is delicious, the ambiance is comforting and rich with texture, and the service is friendly and attentive. I’m a repeat client and I will be back.
Celebrating wife birthday. Very romantic from the lighting to the cozy corner seating with a live pianist playing in the background. The food was delicious from the appetizer to dessert. The staff even serenaded my wife with happy birthday as they presented her dessert.
We hadn’t been to Chez Josephine in ages and never for lunch! It was spectacular. The food was delicious, the service by Manuel was superb. He was warm, welcoming and attentive.
The ambience was transporting- We felt like we were in another more sedate era which was sorely needed in these turbulent time. We highly recommend Chez Josephine!
It was a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday.
Thank you for making this a memorable day.
However, we were concerned that we were never asked our vaccination status.
Wonderful meal while listening to some great music. American Songbook Sunday in English and French!
The food was outstanding!
Most beloved restaurant. Food is outstanding and you will get top notch service. The live piano and show is the cherry on top of a great evening out! Viva la Josephine
The space is beautiful but the staff and the service are beyond impressive! When you step into the venue, you feel as though you’ve gone back in time. The interior decorating is impeccable and the live music is phenomenal. You will have a great time!
The restaurant was greatly understaffed. I have to assume the kitchen was too.
Very well-made French fare. Service is friendly, though they could use more staff. Live piano music
It's a fun, pretty place with great piano music. Unfortunately, the service is very bad. Although they called to confirm my reservation, they could not find it when we first arrived. Then we are seated with no menu and our first server is annoyed when she comes to take our order and we request a menu. A second server delivers the first course, and a third server delivers the second course. I chose the Restaurant Week 3 course menu. Suddenly another person takes my plate, utensils and napkin. and brings a check. I tell him I have not received my desert yet and we told the first server we need separate checks. He returns with the wrong desert. Corrects that and brings no utensils for the desert. I capture another server and get two forks. Then yet another person delivers one check. I tell them again that we need two checks. They separate the check and it's wrong. They attempted to charge me 14.00 for the soup that was part of the 3 course option. They corrected everything with a spirit of irritation instead of embarrassment about numerous mistakes. Although I like the ambiance and the piano music, it's not worth it.
The food was great! I had the shrimp entree and the risotto was delicious with it. I also tried the crab cakes and would highly recommend those.
The service was pretty bad. The waiters were nice, but we ate outside and they completely forgot about us. They weren’t good about checking in to refill drinks or anything.
Excellent! Great value- live music and delicious meal. Singer was absolutely great!
Delightful experience highly recommend a visit. Try it.
I’ve been here a few times and always had a great experience unfortunately this time there was hair in my food very disappointed.
My Favorite place in Midtown! Ambiance, music, food, service all are excellent!
The food was delicious and fabulous - would recommend this restaurant and will go again.
A smallish restaurant serving excellent French cuisine. Quiet, and comfortable. They could use some more staff, but maybe that's hard to get nowadays.
Went as a party of 4 for brunch during Restaurant week. Was not very busy but it took very long for our food to come out. Food was good. Also there were a lot of flies and gnats around the window tables.
Food was delicious
We are visiting New York and we were excited to experience restaurant week. The menu impressed us and the food did as well.
I was drawn to this place for its cute ambience and history, but was a bit disappointed with the food and drinks. They are definitely charging tourist trap prices. The food was just a bit mediocre when compared to a similar price point of the same cuisine in NYC.
What ruined the experience was when my partner ordered his second drink, after not enjoying his first one much. I will admit my drink also wasn’t anything special (it was an inoffensive mango-ey margarita with a Tajin rim. Hard to mess that up.)He went up to the bartender and asked if they could make a sazerac, they answered confidently so he left an extra tip to the bartender and returned to the table.
When the drink arrived my partner said it was the worst sazerac he’s had in a very long time. I was still a bit hungry and wanted to order more food after our 3 appetizers and 1 entree, but his mood was so ruined about this place we had to leave and finish dinner somewhere else. He did not finish his drink.
If the ambience wasn’t so charming this would have been a 2 star review.
A beautiful unique place. Fair price priceless history of the icon Josephine Baker.
Wonderful charming restaurant with a fun French atmosphere and great live music. Delicious food too!!
