Maine Lobster Bisque
French Onion Soup
Scallops, Shrimp, Seafood Sausage, Black Beans in a Light Shellfish Bouillon
We went for restaurant week, the food was subpar, the snails were chewy as was the steak, the dessert was decent but nothing more. Spaghetti bolognese was the only good dish. The staff was very helpful and super nice. Will never go back.
This restaurant is an old time favorite of mine. Help always seem rushed because it's a favorite of theater goers. Restrooms up a steep flight of stairs. Menu is French and delicious. Onion soup never has enough cheese, but prepared well.
Next show I attend,I'll again make my reservation.
The venue and ambiance was great. I was very happy with the service as it was fast and the waiters were always there and attentive.
Food as well was very good.
We went here and tried the Restaurant Week Menu and we were left very happy with the experience. Would definitely recommend
Overall wonderful experience! Was covert excited to discover this place.
Our service was VERY slow. We were at a French restaurant with little or no French items on the menu?? We were not able to order desert due to our slow service. I was served an incorrect drink. When we asked about it we were told by the bartender - "I made it correctly".
I took my friend here for their birthday and the cuisine, service and environment were truly wonderful!
Great food, great service, great music and great ambience.
Food and service were great. Ambiance was warm and sexy. The live music was superb and made my night.
The food came out missing ingredients listed on the menu. The manager refused to do anything to make up for the mistake.
Great food, perfect for pre-show dinner
We came here for our sons birthday and it was a memorable visit as usual. The decor never fails to thrill with the iconic Josephine Baker murals providing a vibrant setting. The lobster salad had huge pieces of tender lobster, my guys had strip steaks that were delicious. And their green salad is like a pretty hat that you can eat. We are here for the week and St Jos shines brightly in our dinner rotation.
A marvelous experience from start to finish!
Always a pleasure. Love the live piano and songstress.
You can’t beat the ambience or convenience (if you are seeing a Broadway show.) There was a live piano player, a singer and later a bassist joined them. The service was a bit slow but the waiter was very pleasant. The food was good, might have said very good but the side of Brussels sprouts were mushy/very over cooked. Would definitely return though if in the area.
My favorite restaurant in NYC. ambience is immersive, the love music elevates dinner to a new legend, and the food is OUTSTANDING. Service is also on point. Can’t wait for my trip next month to get back!
The food, French Onion Soup, Crab cake for appetizers and the duck and chicken entrees were delicious. We also loved the ambiance, with live piano and lots of Louis Armstrong recordings during breaks. The staff was terrific. The restaurant was not crowded, as was at rather lats and any pre theater crowd was long gone.
Great service, food and atmoshpere, wonderful piano player
My expectations regarding the food were surpassed. The food was reasonably priced and was delicious. The house drink specials were made correctly and used quality ingredients. We were seated by the front window and reasonable accomodations were made for our small children. I look forward to eating hear the next time I am in town.
The is a charming French restaurant near Broadway that is open late. The ambience is warm, the food authentic and good and service is very friendly. The owner is a relative of the famous Josephine, who was an amazing woman of her time.
Always special at this handsome establishment. And live piano combo! Very festive.
Loved this restaurant, the ambiance, the food and the music was the perfect end to our fabulous New Years Day in NYC. We will be back soon.
Great ambience. Lousy food.
As a New Year’s Eve Party, it’s the best in town, great music, intimate setting, fun people. Champagne for all at midnight with lots of flutes, bells and noisemakers for all. Chez Josephine feels like family by the end of the night. Had the best New Year
celebration there. Lots of couples and small families enjoying a gourmet 4 course menu created especially for New Year’s Eve. AND the food is superb all year thru.
This is where to go for a special occasion. They will take great care of you.
This is a beautiful cozy restaurant. The food was fantastic but the dessert was served cold. I will definitely eat there again.
We got the 45$ food menue, the final bill with the tip and an additional side was 137$.
The food was a bit under my expectations but overall we had a nice time.
Great food, service, and quick, perfect just before seeing a show!
Great experience for my birthday would definitely come back!
The ambience and decor are what first strikes you as you leave the streets of New York and step back in time to the Jazz era. The staff are friendly and very attentive. The food is excellent. I had the steak and she had the trout. Both were delicious. The whole experience is elevated by the piano man in the center of the restaurant playing a variety of jazz favorites and modern tunes with a jazz spin.
The inside of this establishment is what makes the visit worth it. Its dim lights and decoration, resembling a French cabaret, together with the piano music, add a touch of glamour to the whole experience. However, the food was somehow disappointing, considering the price that you are paying. To sum up: beautiful place, buy overpriced food.
Had to wait for a friend. The staff allowed me to sit at a table, were attentive but not annoying. The piano man was great. The food was not as great as I remembered, but still quite good.
Diner was excellent as well as the service. Great escargots, and we loved the filet mignon and liver. We enjoyed the bomb glacée prâliné as a dessert. The ambiance with the piano player was lovely.
Food, drinks, and service were all excellent! Prix Fixe menu has great options and was an amazing value.
Beyond amazing experience here! The waitstaff was over & above caring & attending to my every need. The decor is a shrine to the amazing Josephine Baker! The food was absolutely delicious! I will be returning there again & again.
Chez Josephine is iconic. Our favorite place to go when in NYC seeing a show. The food is amazing ( try the waygu burger) and the ambiance is truly historic.
A wonderful after theatre dinner, fabulous staff and beautiful interior!!
The experience was magnificent. It was like an other time, the musicians were amazing and the food magical ! I’ll return in every chance I get !
Chez Josephine, founded by Josephine Baker’s adopted son Jean-Claude Baker, is an outstanding French bistro in the West 42nd Street theater district (just west of 9th avenue). While the founder has passed on, the current management maintains the standards set by Jean-Claude. Decor is mostly posters and other artwork featuring Josephine Baker. The food is mostly what you would expect from a French bistro, although there are some specials that are worth considering, such as the imaginative Lobster Cassoulet. There is low music most of the time, and a live piano in evenings.
Bien le bonjour à Monsieur Jarry
Beaucoup trop cher pour pas très bon!!! Dommage!!!!
Food not awsome. Appetizer : baby greens, in fact just a salad 🙄. Waiters were not wearing a mask 😑. Gratuities of 20% automatically added.
