Chez Josephine draws a crowd unlike any other in New York as food critic Bryan Miller noted when he wrote: “The dining room is a confluence of the famous and the fashionable, the infamous and unsung – with every shade of skin on earth – and indeed you feel the magic of Chez Josephine.”

Best night we had in NYC! Thanks Josephine.
Great NYE. Beautiful place. Great Pianist. Food portions were generous and delicious. Will definitely go again. Loved the Nostalgia!
Always a gem of a place. Thank you for keeping the vibrant energy of the theatre community alive in these trying times. Also, that duck was delish!!!
Great food, great service and great music. Couldn’t ask for anything more.
Outstanding! As per usual, the food, ambiance and music were wonderful... Certainly need to keep supporting good businesses. Will keep coming!
Beautiful New York City restaurant like stepping into a charming bygone era. Excellent food, service and ambience. There was a live piano player who was amazing. Highly recommemded.
My girlfriend and I had an amazing experience celebrating our anniversary at Chez Josephine. Staff were attentive and insightful, atmosphere was romantic, pianist was talented and the food amazing!
Consistently outstanding menu and presentation. Service on point and great cocktails and wine. Will keep coming!
This place is absolutely amazing in all aspects: ambience, food, service, music, decoration, bar!!!!
I will never tire of writing how much I appreciate Chez Josephine. It is truly a neighbourhood gem; I love the baroque decor that is so reminiscent of the personality of the great artist, who figures on several pictures and murals. The service is always friendly without being chummy. The food is mainly in the French tradition, well prepared and presented. There is no attempt to be trendy but quality and simplicity are present in all ingredients; the wine list should satisfy all major tastes. Most evenings, a pianist entertains diners by playing standards in a subdued manner that does not interfere with conversations. Chez Josephine is remarkably good value for money in an area that often overprices everything. Highly recommended.
Outstanding all around. Wonderful brunch menu and incredibly priced. Full bar. Excellent service. Really outstanding food! Enjoyed the lovely setting, the comfortable pace and the feeling of being cared for. Everything was timed perfectly and presented beautifully... Thank you Manuel and Team for a wonderful afternoon... We’ll be back.
Beautiful, safe and socially distanced with excellent food as always!
The food was good, the service was very attentive and the atmosphere was very nice. We had a nice evening and they had a live piano playing which we did appreciate. We enjoyed the cozy table with enough space so we felt safe. We would return.
Excellent service and a nice surprise to have live piano music
A New York gem, with a real French bistro menu and atmosphere.
We went for brunch. It was superb. There was a live pianist. The food was great and the service attentive without being intrusive. There were very few people there, which was nice in terms of COVID... but baffling. This place deserves to be swamped
Always a great meal, relaxing environment and the piano music was perfect l!
It was the perfect setting
Wonderful a usual. Always a treat.
Excellent. I used to go there 20 years ago. It still has that wonderful, unique charm.
Great staff and great for birthday
Great place to celebrate our anniversary!
We had brunch and it was exceptionally good: rapport qualité-prix exceptionnel, as the French would say. The food and service were excellent, the price was very reasonable, the space is super--we had an outdoor table, but opted to take a window-side table inside, as no other tables were inside--especially inside, which is pretty and, for brunch, has life piano music. Truly a treat
Great place. Great service.
Food was great. They've got accordion player! (⊙o⊙)
Always a nice experience and with live accordion music feels like you in Paris.
Wishing all the best to the staff and management.
The atmosphere, service, live music, and decor are wonderful (truly top notch). Unfortunately, the food is very very bad. I had a very rubbery NY strip steak and a very insipid wild rice. The duck was also not very good. The dishes need to be updated as they are old and flavorless. The quality of the ingredients also leave much to be desired. It is s shame that this place, having a fantastic history and a wonderful atmosphere, is not spearheaded by a chef that can do it justice. I will not be going again.
Lovely experience- great great service.
I LOVE CHEZ JOSEPHINE. By far one of my favorite little restaurants in Manhattan.
We must keep the memory of Josephine Baker alive for all future generations.
My fish dinner with vegetables was very good. I wished that potatoes or rice were served with the meal. The bread did not seem fresh but everything else was fine. The crab cake with greens was wonderful although for the price of $18.00 I thought there would be two crab cakes because the cakes were small. The staff was accommodating with warmth and very friendly. I was given a large and beautiful drawing of Josephine Baker and champagne. We were serenaded by a soloist playing great accordian music.
The food and drinks were delicious. The staff was very attentive and made it a night to remember.
Enjoyed our evening listening to live accordionist and conversing with 3 French speaking
ladies.
Seating is a limited and just hope Chez Josephine will survive the Pandemic!!!
We will be back!!!
Best restaurant in New York
A one off! And absolutely the best. The addition of a bistro accordionist was a fantastic idea!
Not the best place for outdoor dining and the food was quite expensive.
With the covid precautions, me and my date were very concerned when we arrived no tracking was confirmed or offered. We were sat at a table, and given menus from a table where previous patrons were seated. No hand sanitizer, or cleaning between patrons was seen.
When it came to the food it was disappointing, my girlfriends French toast had mold on the fruit. This ruined our experience, I had the trout which was mediocre.
Their mimosas were enjoyable. I will not be returning
It was nice to go back to Chez Josephine and celebrate mu friend's birthday. You can't go wrong with Chez Josephine.
It was wonderful to see our old friends in our favorite theatre district restaurant. The only thing missing was theatre!
Great little place with a fun, old time speakeasy feel. We opted for the 3 course menu with dessert, and were not disappointed. We were met with very friendly staff, and after a bit of confusion with the menu, were treated to a very nice array of food. While seated, there was a piano being played in the background, and it made the ambiance that much better. There were hardly any people there as everyone was running in fear of the dreaded COVID-19, and I would imagine that anyone wishing to eat there and experience it for themselves will need reservations.
We go to Chez Josephine all the time. It is charming "old-time" New York and always a wonderful experience.
