It’s pronounced foo-SHAY.
Chez Foushee is located on the corner of E. Grace Street & Foushee Street. Foushee Street is named after Richmond’s first mayor, William Foushee, whose surname was likely pronounced with a French inflection during his time. But over the years, the shay has evolved into shee, as it has for the restaurant’s name. Andrew & Dennis passed the baton to Whitney Cardozo retiring after 28 years of unwavering hospitality.
We answer to both foo-SHAY & foo-SHEE, and we look forward to seeing you for another 28 years!
Classic French Menu was good. Salmon was too crusty. Steak Frites was pre cut which is odd. Overall food was fine and ambiance was good but not a good value.
The food was amazing. But the cocktails needs improvement.
This past weekend we met old and new friends for dinner, after being reintroduced to Chez Foushee by our children a month ago. On both occasions, the meal was delicious, we appreciated the attentive service and we look forward to a return visit!
Our dinner was fantastic. The trout was perfectly cooked, and the oyster appetizer could have made dinner for most of us. Our guests also raved about the shrimp and grits. We will definitely go back soon.
We had a great time. Good was delicious!!! Highly recommend.
The food was absolutely excellent, and was reasonably priced for the area. Great choice if your in the area to attend one of the many events in the city. I’ve been to this fine establishment a few other times and it has never disappointed
Great food, great service and a really friendly welcome.
Excellent food and service. Always a consistently great meal. Had the cod special which was perfect. The lemon pound cake is to die for too. Place settings and glasses are classic French
We went pre-theater and got out with time to spare. The food was tasty and attractively presented. Our waiter was pleasant and attentive. Great experience.
Great place for a nice birthday. Really enjoyed it.
Great menu, service and delicious food!! Plus we love the size and coziness!
Early dinner, not crowded on a weeknight. Cod special was perfectly prepared. Waitstaff were friendly and knowledgeable.
This is without a doubt Richmond best restaurant! Ambiance is beautiful and food was unbelievably good. Also good value
Our experience from the moment we stepped in the door till we stepped out for pictures was nothing less than magical. We could not find one thing or detail about anything that was not extraordinary. Every detail is just so thought out and the food is absolutely scrumptious. We wrote the owner Whitney Cardozo to tell her personally how wonderful everything was. It really is like stepping into a romantic French movie with food just as magical. I don't think anything in RVA compares!
Had a great time. Went on Valentine's Day, so the menu was probably a little pricier than usual. However, they knocked it out of the park. The seating was a little tight, and we were really close to the piano which made it a bit loud. However, the food was fantastic. The risotto was great, and the lemon cake for dessert was out of this world - way, way out, like a dream! The wait staff was great, nice ambiance, good location. Will return to try their regular menu since this was our first time!
We had a good meal here. Found a good wine at an okay price. Service started slow but the waiter caught up and ended up doing a good job. Quiet place for a meal with a couple or small group.
I had not been in probably over 10 years. The food was fantastic! Great evening with friends.
Great meal. Great service and ambiance. We’ll be back for sure!
My brother travels to Richmond on a regular for business. He is a dedicated foodie and Chez Foushee was at the top of his list of recommendations. Everything we ordered at brunch was wonderful and we loved the beautiful dining space. Thank you!
Great menu, very nice staff. Very good bar, too. Had a great time, nice jewel in the middle of downtown Richmond. P.S. they get Creme Brulee right!
It’s been a few years but still impressed with Chez foushee. Risotto was creamy perfect and the duck breast was served whole over creamer potatoes. Delicious. Beautiful presentation and a lovely bottle of Sancerre for $45.
Of course the lemon butter cake amazed as ever. Even took a slice home. Don’t pass on that. And likely need some tea or coffee to wash it down so worth it!
We had a lovely dinner at Chez Foushee. The food and service were excellent. I would highly recommend.
We were very happy with our experience! The service was wonderful, our waiter was so nice and also provided great service. The food was delicious and the ambience was just perfect!
Great looking place.
Very slow food service.
Booked this for first time dining here for a special occasion. They handled our group well. Great service, fabulous ambiance, and delicious food. Would go again and recommend.
Very elegant. The cocktails weren't as well-crafted or on-point as they should have been. The food was fantastic. Our waiter was not. He was not "bad" but certainly wasn't the level one expects in a restaurant of this caliber. Cute though.
Very poor service. Had to ask for refills, bread, steak overcooked ( blamed on bad thermometer) cold temp inside( wore coat whole time). Never received coffee so finally gave up and checked out with mgr. apologetic and took cost of steak off, but still disappointing evening.
Dear Tina, I am truly sorry for your experience. We would have gladly redone your steak to your liking and most definitely could turn the heat up for you if we had been aware! I am always cold so I know how uncomfortable it can be. Our goal is never to disappoint and we will work harder to not let something like this happen again. Thank you for your feedback and I hope you will give us another try. Sincerely, Whitney (owner)
We were very pleased with our visit! Upon arriving, we were greeted like an old friend. I had placed in the comments of my reservation that the meal was to celebrate a birthday. Both the host and our waitress acknowledged this and wished my husband a happy birthday! The service was good, our waitress was knowledgeable and efficient. The meal was quite tasty and the desserts were amazing. Definitely try the lemon cake, it was the best I've ever had!
It is wonderful to know the current ownership has maintained and improved on the standards of Chez Foushee. The staff is attentive and enjoyable too. I would definitely suggest others to dine here.
Dear Cathy P, Thanks for your kind words. We work hard to provide the best dining experience possible and we appreciate your recognition. Hope to see you again soon! Sincerely, Whitney (Owner)
An excellent dinner for my partners birthday! I would absolutely come back.
Wonderful evening In all ways - we’ll return as soon as possible.
We had a lovely time. The food was very good. My only objection was too many bones in my trout. Dessert and Onion soup appetizer were outstanding. Very good but not over-the-top wine list. Service was impeccable.
Always a pleasure to dine at Chez Foushee. Everything is excellent and only wish parking was a bit simpler! Staff is excellent and accommodating and food always a pleasure.
Food was excellent and service was unrushed (they weren’t trying to turn the table over quickly).
Wonderful. Food was delicious. Waiter was charming! Will recommend this restaurant to others.
We were completely delighted with this special New Year’s Eve dinner. And, we rarely give such glowing reviews The flavors and presentation were exceptional. We did not expect so much flavor from the beef entree. In fact, it surpassed many , much more expensive steak restaurants. We live in Washington DC area, but will definitely return whenever we are in Richmond.
Jamie, our waitress was superb &the the food was also superb. Still one of the best restaurants in Richmond.
We had a lovely time. The food was excellent.
