Enjoyed a nice seafood lunch here on a freezing winter weekday. As a lobster purist, I am skeptical of menus that offer to serve lobster meat any way other than the traditional roll, salad or steamed whole. To my delight, the Lobster Club was delicious and combined with their lobster bisque, really made my day. My companion had whitefish chowder which was at least equally tasty as the bisque. His main course of walleye in meuniere sauce was also wonderful. They also have an extensive wine selection, making it a good venue for a celebration.
Consistently good. We went on New year's eve when they had a great special menu (which was posted everywhere, by the way, unlike what other reviewers wrote: on the web site, at the door, and on each table). We liked it so much we went back on a quiet stormy Saturday: same quality, same welcome, same attention. At night they have an interesting smaller portions option so that you can try different dishes. The prices correspond to the quality of the ingredients: fresh Atlantic halibut and wild caught Dover Sole do not come cheap! Nice white linens, towels in clean washrooms, candles..it's not a bad idea to dress appropriately. Can't wait to go back and try their amazing cocktails. The bartender William is a sweetheart.
This is that friendly local place with great food that you are looking for in Old Montréal. Father and son team take care of guests like family. Great pride in fresh catches and simple, classic preparations. We enjoyed Dover Sole and Walleye as recommended. Cocktails were creative and excellent complement to our meal.
We booked this restaurant to spend New Year’s Eve. When we booked, there was no information about the fact that there would be only a few choices from a fixed menu - actually the complete menu was available on tge website, and that’s why we booked. We asked to change just one of the starters, and just for one of us - the answer was: Sorry, I have to check if it’s possible. They did it, but they made clear they didn’t want to do ao, and that’s was certainly not a good beginning. Then one of us ordered the steak well done. The answer: Sorry, we cannot change anything else; the steak is grilled just rare. And there was no alternative. Really?! Add to the experience a just ordinary bottle of wine for more than $200 and figure out the rest: just ordinary food in all meal courses. With the steak left on the plate, bleeding. We decided to leave the restaurant before 2018 started. Other customers were complaining too. I definitely do not recommend this restaurant.
Came here on our vacation to Montreal. WHAT A FIND! We have been on vacation for a week now to both Quebec City and Montreal and this was my wife’s favourite meal by far.
The shrimp cocktail was very good. There was an adequate portion of very large shrimp. We also had the calamari appetizer which I found to be a bit chewy, but they did not have too strong of a fish taste. I wish they did some kind of aioli instead of tartar sauce.
I had the short ribs (since I don’t like fish or seafood) and my wife had the Dover sole. She said it was the best fish dish that she has ever had! The short ribs were good and the BBQ sauce on them was also good. I found the mashed potatoes to be a little bland, but they were better with a little salt and pepper added. If you like fish you MUST try the Dover sole.
We finished with the bread pudding. It was AMAZING! If I had more room I would have considered ordering another one.
If you are in Montreal and you like seafood then you MUST try Chez Delmo!!
Wonderful overall experience. I’ve read several reviews that say, “drop everything and go to Chez Delmo!” And I have to say, “drop everything and go to Chez Delmo, you won’t regret it!”
The restaurant is located in a wonderful part of town that is a great experience in and of itself. We walked from our hotel through the cobblestone streets, passed by amazing architecture, and movies they play directly on the sides of buildings. Upon entering the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by one of the owners, Benoit, and we knew we were in for a treat. The menu not only offers the dishes but also describes the history of the restaurant, from the bar stools, to the beautiful John Gay murals on the walls.
We started of with escargot and foie gras, both phenomenal, before going to one of their staples, the tomato & the lobster bisque soups. Having tried numerous iterations, I wasn’t sure they could offer anything unique, boy was I wrong. Their soup was probably the best I’ve ever had, not too thick, but covered in flavor.
For dinner, we finally decided on their piece de resistance, the Dover sole. Do not, I repeat, do not leave this place without trying this dish. I have never tasted a fish this flavorful in my life. Cooked perfectly through, with a delicious coat of butter and seasoning on both top and bottom...melt in your mouth.
We finished the night off with creme brulee, which matches each dish respectively.
5/5 across the board, do not miss this Montreal Gem!
Great spot. Went two nights ago for dinner for the first time. Couldn’t resist going back again last night. Walleye was best I ever had, and I’ve had it hundreds of times. Lobster Thermidor great. Owner congenial. If any complaint, good wine list by the bottle but weak selection by the glass; needs at least a couple of upper tier ones.
Un endroit superbe dans le Vieux-Montréal pour déguster une crème de tomates ou une soupe de poissons, des poissons fraos, des huitres fraîches, le homard Thermidor ou Newburg préparé de façon classique ainsi qu'un baba au rhum baptisé avec de l'excellent rhum agricole. Sincèrement, nous avons passé une soirée agréable en se régalant.
it was nice to come back after a few months and be greeted as one of the regulars. As usual, fresh fish, done right. If you don't know your fish, you might not get it: they fly in the good stuff and prepare it the old fashioned way. There is a cost to this. You appreciate it of you don't. i happen to like the fact that the fish is done plain jane style. Keep it up, Delmo
The first time was a better experience business meal in June 21 or 22 2017 . This is why I decided to come back with my wife and friends. This Saturday it was below my inspection compare the first time. Yes it is expensive I don't care when it is very good. But last Saturday
is was WOW like the first time.
to say the true I won't come back at your place for a third time , because first the portion are to small and the pricing was too high with the service $532.20 for the level of quality.
I didn't penalize the waiter i gave tip $69.42 for a meal $462.78 = Total $532.20
For me the second time it was too expensive experience for the quality i got and the quantity

My wife and I ate at Chez Delmo last week prior to the Centaur theater. Service was attentive, the wine list interesting, and the menu classic. My meal was extremely good -delicious fish soup with all the extras followed by excellent fish & chips - minimal breading and perfectly cooked fish. Not cheap but good value for the such high quality fish.
This restaurant is a must do in Old Montreal. We wanted a restaurant close to the Westin Montreal. This was a couple of blocks away. Upon arrival we were greeted by the very personable host who gave us a choice of tables for quiet romantic or middle of restaurant with a view of the action. Paul was our server and he was very attentive but not intrusive. Paul was very knowledgeable and helpful as we navigated the menu full of wonderful seafood choices. We decided on an endive salad which was fresh and crisp with a wonderful vinegrette dressing. For an entree we chose the Dover Sole and it was superb. My ding companion has a gluten allergy so the chef changed the preparation for him to accommodate and his was perfect as well. The standard prep served in meunière was moist and delicious. I could go back tomorrow for a total repeat dinner. For dessert, we chose a crime brûlée and it did not disappoint. Paul offered wine pairings to complement the food and that just added to the experience. Definitely a place to come back to.
Très bon restaurant. Le service est au top. La nourriture est savoureuse et bien présentée. Le goût, qualité et la fraîcheur des fruits de mer sont excellents. J'ai été avec ma copine et je dirais que c'est l'un des meilleurs restaurants qu'on a été jusqu'à présent.
Chez Delmo was on our recommended restaurant list from our hotel. The description said essentially that it was a great seafood place; we love seafood so seemed like a no brained. Easy. The ambiance, as it turned out, was the best thing I can say about the place. The waitress was friendly enough but we felt she tried to upsell every chance she had. We asked for 9 oysters, she said what? 12? I asked for a wine recommendation and she picked the most expensive by the glass. Same thing happened when my husband asked about the entrees and again she selected the most expensive dish. All of this turned us off and we haven’t had our food yet. I ordered seafood shell—which was essentially mash with some over cooked scallops and shrimps—for CAD 44. Not worth it. If you’re going to charge me, give me good food, that was not the case with Chez Delmo. The biggest disappointment meal wise on our 6 day trip. For the money, I could recommend all of the other restaurants I tried, and loved, and still save you a few bucks.
