This place has become one of my all time favorites in DC!! Excellent food and the service was truly amazing.
The staff was welcoming and efficient. Perhaps, a bit too present at first, but more appropriate as the meal progressed. The server was being trained and was good but a bit quirky. He'll surely improve with time. The culinary offerings were well presented and delicious as was the wine. The duck confit was especially well prepated
We received a warm and friendly welcome, had delicious cocktails at the bar, and dined outside on the patio with excellent service! Our meals were outstanding, perfectly seasoned and warm upon arrival. Our server was attentive but not annoying. He was very charming! We had a wonderful and memorable birthday dinner!
Perhaps the real restaurant has moved outside. Last Sunday we took good friends to our favorite place in Georgetown. In the main dining room the tables were not set - the lights were not dimmed at 7 pm and most of the customers were outside. I had mussels, which is my frequent choice at CB, and they were underdone (or old). Service was great but the overall feel was off ... next time outside but the excuse of Covid must end and not having bread for a meal (no baker yet) no longer works. I may cancel and change my next reservation when other friends come to town in early August.
Portion size was good for the kind of restaurant it was. Friendly staffs. They do mandatory 20% surcharge for tips atm, prolly offset the Covid factor - which I was fine with.
What a great experience. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was lovely, and the entire staff was wonderful.
I previously dined at Chez Billy original location on Georgia Ave NW. Chez Billy Sud is much better in all aspects. Food is exceptionally prepared, service top notch, and wine selection is very good albeit a little on the expensive side. The only negative was the coffee machine was not operating. A wonderful local restaurant.
Chez Billy Sud is great. First, they did a great job redecorating from the old Cafe Ruche days--the interior is calm and elegant without being stuffy. Second, every member of the restaurant staff was warm and inviting, and seemed genuinely happy we were there. Third, I don't know how they make their "Frenchman" cocktail (calvados, pastis and sparkling wine), but it is excellent and I wish I could replicate it at home. And finally, the food was fantastic, from the onion soup to the frisee salad to the bistro burger and bucatini, to the dessert. A really nice experience, and we'll definitely be coming back!
Really, really delicious food and cocktails. The leeks, escargot and steak were amazing.
We used to love coming here. The food is still good. But the service was really lacking.. We had to flag down someone else to get our check.
Always a great dining experience
Perfect dining experience from the welcome to the farewell.
The sea bass was exceptional! Service was outstanding. Look forward to another visit soon!
Perfectly prepared classic French bistro fare. We started with a perfectly dressed salade verte and the olives which were deliciously spicy. The confit de canard was succulent and the steak-frites well prepared. Excellent service throughout the evening.
Average. Missed champagne not served in proper glassware. Run of the mill French fare.
wonderful food and atmosphere!
Loved finding this gem in Georgetown! The service was above and beyond friendly & helpful. The food was a balanced combination of classic and creative, so there was something for everyone. Wine offerings were also great, full of variety in terms of profiles and prices.
First time back since COVID, and was a bit disappointed. Steak frittes, and green salad were both very salty to my taste. Service however was pretty disappointing. Drink orders weren't taken until several minutes after seating. Server had a difficult time answering pretty basic questions about the menu.
Great night, but it’s time to get coffee back!!!!!
My DC favorite!
I love this restaurant usually! The food is delicious, wait staff is well educated and professional and the ambiance is perfect.
Sad that they changed the preparation of the escargot! Please bring back the original preparation that everyone loves and has posted tons of pictures of on your social media! Second, the old fashioned needs improvement. It was very watered down with a heavy hand on the bitters. This drowned out any hint of orange.
Will definitely return because it’s a neighborhood gem…but hopefully these two items will be fixed!
Amazing service from Juan and team!
Horrible service. Long wait and brought incorrect items Overpriced dry Hamburger . French fries were hot and tasty. I won't be going back Lots of restaurants in Georgetown which are much better.
Outdoor patio was quiet and great for allaying covid concerns. The beet-lentil salad was absolutely fabulous. The bucatini was flavorful but a bit boring as an entree - too much of one thing. But it was our fault for ordering. Should have had the duck for the variety of flavors. Moules frites we’re great! Bravo to the chef.
Extremely likable server (Agi) who provided great personal service despite serving more than ten tables at once. I had escargot and steak/frittes. First dish was excellent and special, also the second but with a small complaint: slightly (but only slightly) less rare than I hoped to order. My wife loved her salad, OK but not so exceptional on the duck (confit). Which came highly recommended by my daughter's family who had dined with you several times (or Tom Sietsema (sp?) for that matter.)
Also appreciated the complementary champagne that came because I indicated it was our 55th anniversary.
We'll be back. Jim and Janet Edwards
The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The food and wine were excellent. We will be back this summer.
Atmosphere, food, and service can’t be beat. One of my favorite restaurants, no question!
As always, the best! Our server Torrance was fab!
I noted a birthday on our reservation but even before the staff noticed that they seemed to treat us and everyone else as someone special. They went above and beyond to create a perfect celebratory meal for us.
Excellent by all standards. Highly recommend. Georgetown has returned to its busy, crowded evening routine but ample pay parking is available.
Fantastic experience for our 10 year anniversary.
Wonderful food and service. Delightful setting for a birthday dinner.
Delicious food, quaint ambience (sat on patio) and excellent service!! The restaurant does a fantastic job with social distancing and safety protocols. Our server, Agi, was extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of the menu, preparation processes, and gave us excellent recommendations for our party of 3 to share. Everything from start to finish was perfect!
Even during the pandemic, the greeting is warn, the service most attentive, and a simple dinner was just great
Always a nice experience dining here. The only misstep was very overcooked green beans. I never experienced that with trout here before, so maybe it was an off night. Like the ample space between tables on the patio.
It was such a pleasure to come back here for dinner. We had the steak frites and the sea bass along with some good wine. The food , the atmosphere and the service were excellent.
The dessert menu here needs work. It is the low point of the meal.
It was great to be back after such a long time. Very happy to see that they manage to weather the pandemic. Service was excellent and the food did not disappoint. Thank you.
Lovely meal in all respects. Great food, great service. Highly recommend the bucatini.
Great location, French cuisine, good service. avoid the chocolate
We had been looking forward to Chez Billy Sud based on excellent reviews. The food was good but not deserving of 5 stars, we had the Amish chicken, Bucatini and sea bass. The sea bass could have used a bit more fennel, a bit less butter, didn’t need to be swimming in it, but is was tasty. The desserts were disappointing, have had better. Flour less chocolate cake was more like a small, hard brownie and the riz au lait was creamy but the topping was much too sweet, so much so that I scraped it off. This restaurant had no ambience at all. It was a chilly evening, the doors were kept open so we ate with our jackets in as did other diners.
One of my absolute favorite places in DC! High recommend! The service is amazing, friendly, and fun. The food is to die for. This folks deserve a James Beard award!
