Chef's Station
Lovely food. Great place to have a romantic dinner. Service was good. Not four stars only because our server older gentleman felt the need to share the prices of everything we ordered. Not sure they see many wealthy people of color in here. I would recommend it but would prepare my friends and family.
Valentines Day dinner
Service slightly slow, our older waiter had a bit of an attitude mostly brusque and sometimes a bit condescending such as “Turbot” do you know what that is and then proceeded to tell rather than either wait for a response or wait to be asked; and did that repeatedly. Could have just described it: less words and time, and besides most of us were well aware of the items in the menu (we were in our 49’s and 50’s). And the others in my party had the same impression.
Overall a very nice restaurant, very good wine list and reasonably priced. Hard to find entrance as it is near/part of the El station structure but once inside very nice decor almost felt like entering a speakeasy (questionable outside and surprisingly nice inside). Will go again even if we get the same waiter, in a way part of the experience of the outside decor.
For a dining experience away from the numerous non-conversation restaurant environments that exist in Evanston, Chef's Station is a diamond in the rough. Spent three hours on a first date. Great ambience, food and service.
Birthday. Excellent service, food, ambiance.
The food at Chef Station is such a wonderful treat - lovely combinations, beautiful presentations, and delicious flavors! We always have a great meal. The service is also top notch. It's one of our favorite places to dine.
I always enjoy going to Chef's Station for New Years Eve! In previous years a fixed menu was served. This year they went with a few different options, which allowed my wife and I to sample most of the menu. We will be back to ring in 2020, if not before.
Chef’s Station is one of our favorites. They always honor our dietary restrictions and provide new options for us. Food is always delicious and the atmosphere is quiet and romantic. We love it.
We always enjoy dining at Chef's Station. Our wonderful meal on New Years Eve was no exception and are certain to return. We highly recommend Chef's Station for their fine wine list, creative and delicious food offerings coupled with friendly, attentive service.
We went there for New Year's Eve dinner at 7pm. The food was excellent but the service was very slow. So slow that our wine was comped. We don't know if the kitchen was slow or if the restaurant needed more waitstaff for the New Year's Eve crowd.
This could be a great fine dining restaurant . The food was superb however the service was not so great. Unfortunately we will not be back. The servers and staff were working but never came back to see how we were doing or if we needed more drinks. Very slow. We had a dirty plates not removed for some time. I had to flag down our server to get coffee with our dessert which arrived well after we had finished . I’m usually pretty easy to please . But this bothered me since it was a prefixed menu it shouldn’t be that hard to give good service. We spent over $400.00 for 4 people which is fine if you can have a good dining experience. Our server never even said goodbye . I contribute the service to improperly trained staff. Hopefully, they will work on that.
Chef's Station never disappoints. We enjoyed the Christmas Eve dinner--crab cakes, quail, duck, lamb--all delicious; I hope some of these are moved to the regular menu. We very much enjoyed the two dessert options as well. The $55 charge for the dinner was a bargain, given the quality and quantity of food provided.
3 course Christmas Eve menu had great variety and the taste was outstanding! Also, a great price for the dinner. Service was a bit off from what we have had in the past but the restaurant was pretty full. Service was just not quite as attentive as we have experienced.
Did not find the food special. Salad leaves were spread on plate in single layer to make it appear like there was a lot. It hardly contained any goat cheese. The 1/4 teaspoon of goat cheese was smeared on the plate. So difficult to get on my fork. . Had no nuts. The beets were over cooked and plain. The salad had no flavor. For the price of the salad I expected better quality of food.
The dinner of scallops and mashed potato consisted of 3 cold scallops and at most a measured table spoon of cold mashed potatoes. And a shaving of a carrot. Not spectacular with the flavors. For the price of the salad and the dinner I would not recommend this restaurant. Cold food, sparse stingy even with the bread; gave 2 thin tiny slices. My husband too was not happy with his spare ribs. He too was disappointed with the quality of the food. Don’t recommend to eat here specially with the over priced menu. See below.
Hidden gem under the train tracks. Friendly, knowledgeable service. Excellent wine list. This time I had a duck dish and my dining companions had the lamb. All were perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful.
Very quiet with few guests.....wonder if they can sustain staying in business, but it was great for us as it was very quiet, service was good and quick and the food fine.
We have never been disappointed with our experience at Chef Station. The food is absolutely superb - fresh ingredients, wonderful combinations, new tastes and always a great selection.
We had a splendid experience at Chef's Station. F
ood and service were outstanding. I'll be back.
Elegent place for quiet, romantic dinner. Great wine list with Gigondas, our favorite. Good after dinner wine and digestif choices. Sweetbreads were excellent
Nice food, service and location
We appreciated that some of the dishes were unique. And we enjoyed them. But there wasn't much of a crowd; and it was a bit pricey;
surprised to find this spot seemingly lost in time, as though nothing had changed or been upgraded for 20-30 years. Older crowd and servers likewise, very low energy/enthusiasm. Food just average but overpriced for quality.
The food was delicious but the service was terrible. The server never asked if my wife wanted a second drink. The empty glass sat on the table the whole meal. The atmosphere looks like a breakfast joint.
Food good but everything priced too high. Not real high but several dollars per item.
I had fanily visiting from Southern California.
They loved the experience as we always do.
I love the food. In that regard it is an Evanston gem. However the decor has gone from interesting quirky and witty to decor which doesn’t look at all out of the box or interesting. I ca n live with that for the food. But when it originally opened it was also a very creative environment.
This was my first trip but my date had been there before and we were quite pleased with the evening and our dinner. It seemed like the service was a bit slow, but actually it was just right as it allowed you to savor and enjoy your evening un-rushed which is not always the case at some restaurants.
Superb food. Great wine list. Excellent service
An exception place in Evanston for food wine and great atmosphere
Always a reliable choice for an evening out, especially a special event. The menu is seasonal , always interesting & diverse. Highly recommend the tasting menu & for that special event add the wine pairings for a really special evening. It’s a fantastic unhurried time of chefs choice & thoughtful pairings. We’ve been coming for years & always come away delighted & satisfied.
We love the place. the food and the service are great
This was my second visit. My first experience was quite good, so I was looking forward to returning. I was not disappointed. Good wine list, a remarkable menu well prepared, and a quiet atmosphere that makes conversation easy. My favorite in Evanston.
Great place. Food is awesome and staff is very accommodating. Highly recommend!
This remains our favorite outdoor dining patio and most underrated “nice” restaurant in Evanston. Food is always top notch. Service is attentive.
Chef's Station has always been one of my favorite restaurants in Evanston. Dishes are fresh, prepared and presented beautifully, and are delicious. The menu varies by season and availability. Service is attentive without being obtrusive.
Elegant atmosphere, professional staff, creative chef equals a wonderful meals with friends.
We had a simple but elegant dinner after a movie. Foie gras was particularly elegant and delicious.
We celebrated out 35 Wedding Anniversary Dinner at Chef's Station. It was our first dining experience there and was very special evening from seating outside to the menu and service. I would recommend Chef Station for a special evening celebration, or lunch with friends and considering as a baby shower venue in the Fall.
A real find.
Chef's Station is my favorite restaurant in Evanston. Meals there are always outstanding and our guests always leave raving about the food and the whole scene. Amazing chef!
Food was amazing as usual!
Worse service I ever had. It took 30 minutes to get a waiter and another 20 to get cocktails. No apologies and nothing was comped . Never again
