Alan was a super server and very helpful. Meal was very enjoyable.
Solid Chinese spot with a classic menu and lunch specials. Much nicer decor than expected.
Very good classic Chinese food in a relaxed setting. Recommended.
Excellent pan fried noodles with shrimp and cashew chicken, but what made the visit so special was our sweet waiter who gave us a 2nd round of fortune cookies!
Food was delicious, staff was attentive and we appreciated that they didn't rush us.
The food was good but the staff were not griendly.
Underrated authentic Chinese restaurant
Great food and drinks. Wonderful service - kind and funny staff members. Definitely will be back soon!
The food was uniformly delicious and plentiful. We ordered hot & sour soup, scallion pancake and vegetarian spring rolls for appetizers, Mandarin orange beef, mixed Chinese vegetables, and steamed rice. It was busy but not too crowded. Airy high ceiling and comfortable seats. For the location and quality of this restaurant the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommended!
Absolutely fantastic food. However, this is not the place if you’re looking for exceptional service. Our waters were never refilled, we had to ask for a check, etc. Everything is reasonably priced and delicious.
Christmas dinner with besties!
Experience was horrible. I’ve ordered takeout before from Chef Yu which was decent. This dining in experience I met with the rudest most disrespectful servers and host. Not only did we receive our entrees at different times(which led to my order being room temperature) we experienced the servers being brash and rude not refilling our glasses and not giving any service. When we had settled our bill we were then told “You need to leave, we are closed” with the server gesturing with his arms crossing to get out. I have never been to a place with such poor service and rudeness. I and anyone I know will never return to this restaurant. Having a different culture is no excuse for blatant rudeness and disrespect.
I've been here several times and my experience was so great that I recommended it to my coworkers. Mt fave are the dumplings and noodle dishes. However, this time the food was just okay. Our food wasn't marinated nor flavorful. I'll take this as a fluke because of the busy holiday season. The Christmas decor was nice. I'll be back in the new year.
Very disappointing, especially considering there seemed to be good reviews. Went for dinner. There was a function upstairs so it was noisy. Sat by window. It was freezing. Service was terrible. Food was okay, but not outstanding. Maybe it's better for takeout, but I won't dine there again.
The food was wonderful we told our waiter to slow down the food - but it was just a little to rushed
This is a real find because it's an old-fashioned Chinese restaurant, with very good staples (lo mein, etc.) at reasonable prices. The ambiance is fine, and it's not too noisy. Plus, it's located in an area where most of the restaurants are either very noisy, or rushed.
I spent most time looking for a server to get my item. The food quality has gone down. It could’ve been an off day so I’ll come back one more time.
Food was excellent but service (attentiveness of servers) can be improved...
This is the second time I have visited Chef Yu to meet with my friends from high school. We have known each other for 40 years and it is definitely a delight to meet there and dine.
It was a fun night with good company. The food was pretty good. I mainly went for the drinks which are always good. They never disappoint.
Best Chinese in midtown if not all Manhattan. I always try to get a meal here when in town.
My favorite spot to hang with other actors after rehearsals!!! Love this place. The food is always fresh and great happy hour. This is a beautiful neighborhood gem.
Food was excellent! We had pan-fried dumplings, General Tsao’s chicken and baby shrimp with broccoli. Everything was excellent!
I'll start by saying the food was very good. There were several problems, though. When our party of 6 arrived, it was Happy Hour. We've been to many at other places and, thus, didn't expect to be served half of a beverage instead of a full glass. When we inquired about this we were told, "Well, it's Happy Hour." Service was a major, major problem. It seemed that people had multiple jobs. The host became our waiter, then our bartender, until another person replaced him to finish making our drinks. Some of us received our appetizers 10 minutes before the others. My entree was "missed by the chef." (I did get my order gratis, but still I was beginning mine when the rest of our party had already finished. I really believe the place has potential - because the food was very good and the prices reasonable. But management needs to do something about the service and also about what people expect during Happy Hour.
Good food and good service for price point. The drinks were delicious as well. They were accommodating with my food allergies which is appreciated
Pan-fried dumplings, sesame chicken and shrimp with cashew nuts were all delicious!
A great find in the neighborhood! Clean, prompt device and Excellent food
Poor service by the wait staff, slow and somewhat disengaged, however the food was excellent and it was a nice restaurant. Good for a date or business lunch/dinner, but casual enough for jeans and sneakers if you’re just walking around the city. Beef with broccoli was great and the other diners joining me also enjoyed their meals.
A very nice Chinese restaurant right near Penn Station that I never knew existed. I am glad that I know about it now. Great food, everything was excellent, I would highly recommend it.
We love the pan fried pork dumplings, shrimp fried rice and and sesame chicken. My husband did not love his shrimp with lobster sauce... the shrimp had tails on them and he did not get a knife to cut them off until he asked several times
Chef Yu never disappoints. The food is always fresh, great service and a great price point. I will be back.
Good Food and a nice evening but restaurant was tooooo cold. Also difficult to find as no sign on door but above your head. We passed three times !
The value is good. But the service is a bit sloppy in terms of getting the orders correct.
The food was inauthentic stuff you might find in your neighborhood Chinese take-out place. The waitstaff was inexperienced and many either spoke little English or were very hard to understand. I would not recommend this place.
I do really like this spot. Great value for the location. The food is always good, not outstanding, but good. I have gotten the General Tso's chicken and the Orang Crispy chicken. Both are good and come with choice of rice as side. I always get the fried rice, which I really like. Gets noisy at lunch, but worth it.
Found this place by accident on the last night of our holiday and wish we’d gone there sooner! Great food, good value, fast service, bookable online. Highly recommend.
A pleasant Chinese dinner in a nice setting with tablecloths. Excellent service. The food was bland but fine- not much garlic in the eggplant with garlic, or much ginger in the soft shell crab with ginger or much pork or pork taste in the pulled pork dish.
This is a great place with fast service, perfect for a casual lunch with a friend.
We arrived early due to pouring rain. We we were seated quickly. The service is fair and efficient. The waitress was not communicative. No suggestions, no additions just robotic. The food arrived rather fast. It was ordinary Chinese food, nothing special. It was however fresh and hot. Our plates were pulled the minute we put the fork down. Still no communication from the server. Overall it was ordinary.
