This is an amazingly good restaurant in a very small town. We were there for New Years Eve, so it was a special menu of six courses. Everything was exceptional, but I think my favorite course was the seafood bouillabaisse. The staff was great, checking on us at just the right times. They made the entire experience a pleasure from the moment we walked in. We will definitely be coming back.
New Years with friends and the Chef Shack special dinner. Excellent as always. Great experience.
I feel like I am transported to a Bistro in France. Thoughtful, elegant, rustic, genuine. ❤️
Amazing experience. The service was personal and outstanding. Our meal tasty. Our drinks refreshing!
The Sunday Brunch was fabulous!!!
Can not wait to try Dinner.
If I could give 10 stars, I would! There is no comparison to the food that is served at the Chef Shack, including its presentation.
Really had a great time. Carrie took care of us personally which just added to the delightful evening. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening with exceptional food.
We had a truly amazing time with the owners and the chef are absolutely amazing. food was great, service was impeccable. I would love to come back and they have tacos on Wednesday night. I have to go check that out
This restaurant was a surprise! Lovely spot, lovely atmosphere, wonderful service. But the food--mine, anyway, a kind of salmon pot pie in a puff pastry--was mediocre. The prices were very high for what we received. I would go again but not for dinner.
Super meal and terrific service. Lovely spot for a quiet dinner.
The staff was very polite and helpful describing the menu. The drinks were extra special and the food was mouth watering. We never order desserts, but could not resist and got the crem brûlée’s which was fantastic! I can’t wait to go back.
Party of 8 arrived on time for 7:45 reservation. We were greeted with a small complimentary bourbon cocktail, which was nice, and about 10 min after that we were seated at our table. Drink orders were taken and 30 min later they finally arrived. How can a Diet Coke take 30 min to make? The waitress, who was continually scattered, said “I know the drinks took awhile, so I’ll bring you some complimentary bread”. Orders were taken (server came back to say they were out of one of our orders), and finally, 1 hour and 15 min after arriving at the restaurant our food started arriving at the table. Those that ordered the lamb chops found they were inconsistent. Out of 4 chops on my plate, one was completely overdone (no pink), two were raw, and one was cooked correctly. All in our party who ordered lamb chops were very unhappy with their meal. The two who ordered trout were pleased with their meals. The smoked brisket meal did not taste smoked. The glass of red wine I ordered to have with my meal arrived after we were all finished eating, and when I refused it the server said in a very loud voice, “Anyone want this cuz I can’t pour it back?” Embarrassing! Not worth the over $500 we spent on the evening!
Take a lovely drive to Wisconsin to the small but charming Chef Shack restaurant on main street in Bay City. The setting is charming, the service friendly, and the food delectable. We enjoyed Sunday brunch on a beautiful fall day.
Yes. If you like top knotch food, you gotta go there. Worth the drive.
Probably one of the best brunch selections ever! So many restaurants basically serve breakfast without any savory options- not here! The curry was outstanding! My husband had the famous meatloaf over sweet potato hash and almost licked the plate clean. Very attentive and friendly service as well. The ambience is charming . Planning to go back soon for dinner.
Great food and ambiance! I enjoy this little treasure and am always pleased with the food and drink menu. We had a wonderful dinner and the service was amazing!
The trout was delicious!!!
The meatloaf came cool and the potatoes cold. They were warmed up quickly and enjoyed.
Everything was perfect.
This was our first visit to this location, we had dined at the Minneapolis location each time we were in town. Loved everything about our meal, the space & the service. We will be back!
Upon arrival the table was set and ready for our reservation. This was the second time we choose Chef Shack for a special occasion and once again we were not disappointed. The cafe is quaint and the service personable. Leaving without ordering dessert would be a sin, and even after 3 entrees and 2 apps, we opted for the pot de creme - perfect, perfect, perfect. The service here is how I like it, appropriately slow and easy - no point in rushing a good thing.
My husband and I had a great time at this beautiful little bistro just southeast of the Twin Cities. The staff was friendly and attentive. The menu featured seasonal, local ingredients that were prepared to perfection. The bar menu was fun but not fussy. If you want a short drive in the country with beautiful scenery and a lovely meal, check out Chef Shack Bay City.
Must taste for yourself! We return often, it’s unique in a sea of ordinary
From the moment one walks in the door is greeted, the evening is exceptional. The offer of a small welcoming bourbon house-made cocktail brought a smile to our faces. But it was the greetings offered by the bartender that made the entrance such a pleasure. The server knew the menu very well and knew how the kitchen operated perfectly. We ordered some things to share so we could tase them all, and were accommodated with pleasure and very well. The food - A salmon appetizer, a meatloaf entree (spicy), and a curry entry were all very good. It was an evening we thoroughly enjoyed - un-rushed and in a wonderfully eclectic atmosphere. Would absolutely recommend.
WE WILL REVISIT AGAIN THIS WAS A VERY NICE EVENING ,OUR WAITRESS WAS VERY GOOD AND THE FOOD WAS AAAA+++++
Great food. Superbly prepared.
Great people and wonderful food made for an excellent dinner date
Loved this place in a unique locale on the Great River Road. Great food and reasonable prices.
What a surprise. A gem of a treat in a small town.
Lovely restaurant with wonderful service, hospitality and yummy food.
Excellent food and service. Gets better every year.
This was the BEST meal I have had in a long time! Fish cakes were out of this world! Beet salad a work of art. The servers were absolutely fabulous, could not have been nicer. Very relaxing. I will go back as soon as I can. It is beautiful inside, reminded me of being in Paris. Can't wait to go for dinner. Winner winner!
Great place in Bay City for a special event meal. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with Sunday brunch. Food and beverages were very good and reasonably priced.
Best brunch ever! And what a way to make a perfect weekend outing with a drive down to Lake Pepin and Bay City for a French Garden inspired experience. We will come again. Thank you so much!
We love this restaurant! Delicious food in a unique atmosphere and beautiful location. Without a doubt, our favorite restaurant.
Found this gem while on a day trip from Minneapolis. Adorable! Great atmosphere and food!
A gem of our region. World class experience in a beautiful rural area. Reminds me of the delights of traveling in rural Tuscany this past spring - combining elegance with rusticity. The food was a mixture of ethnic traditions: of France, Italy, Thailand and other creative explorations of making wonderful food from seasonal options.
Lovely dinner. Best meatloaf ever. Great cocktails. Cream brulee was fabulous!!!
This is the place we go to for special occasions, as well as in-between. The food and drinks are always amazing! We're lucky to have this restaurant so close to where we live!
What a great place to celebrate a birthday! The vanilla custard dessert will not soon be forgotten! The staff and other guests made the evening very special.
