Chef Geoff's Tysons Ratings and Reviews
A booth at Chef Geoff's was perfect for our comfortable, casual meal with close family. We took advantage of the Sunset Special, a terrific value! Good variety. We each selected different entrees, all were delicious! The presentation for all courses was superb. Didn't have good service that day. Our waitress didn't introduce herself, offer the soup of the day, nor offer to validate parking ticket. She came by our table a few times with only one question/comment: "How's the food?" We've always had superior service at Chef Geoff's so this was an anomaly. We'll be back!
Bad... starting with nobody manning the free valet parking. Arrived for dinner around 5 pm ona Sunday, place was empty. They did not seem prepared for customers. Food was not good and I LOVE CG burgers). My medium burger was overcooked (and dry). We had to flag some guy down to clear our table. Ordered dessert...which did not show up...and then waitress appears with the check. Had to ask about the dessert we ordered. Spent a lot of time waiting for food, for refills, for anyone to check on us. Manager did come over... and they comped part of the bill. I appreciate then acknowledging we weren't happy... but just not worth the drive out the 'burbs...
It was amazing. Great food and extremely friendly staff. We had our kids with us (ages 4&5) and they made the kids feel special and welcome. It's rare to be able to go out for an excellent "foodie" meal and have my kids be so engaged with the food and staff that they didn't want to leave. An example of how great they are...when my husband and I got coffee, my youngest asked for hot chocolate. This isn't something they carry, but they steamed some milk and added some chocolate to make one special for him. Top notch experience. We'll definitely be back with and without the kids.
Fantastic first time at Chef Geoff's! Service was excellent, and we appreciated the extra attention to accommodate a food allergy for a member of our party. The sea scallops with the risotto were delicious. The only disappointment was they were out of doughnuts come dessert. That just means we will have to come back for another visit!
We dined at Chef Geoff's for Fathers' Day, and we felt very welcomed. Our server was very warm, and lovely to our daughter Genevieve. We didn't feel rushed, and the food was really delicious. My partner Lauren and I really appreciated the bottomless Mimosas, as well as the validated parking. This branch of Chef Geoff's is much more modern and sleek than the original in DC. A different, but equally delightful experience.
Amazing food, but poor service. We got sat in outside dining area instead of main dining area. Not sure if it was because we have kids, but they are 7 and 9 and well behaved.
It was Saturday night and the place was not busy at all. We made a reservation and didn't need it. The place was not busy and the bar was empty.
Waitress was new and messed up our order. She never brought my husband's Caesar salad appetizer. I ordered second glass of wine which she brought at the end of my meal after I was done eating.
We went on a Saturday night to Celebrate Father's Day. It was an expensive dinner, which we don't mind, but expect great service at a restaurant such as this.
We headed to Chef Geoff's for the second time ever with a group of 8 of us for a belated Mother's Day / early Father's Day celebration since my parents were visiting from out of town. All three generations easily found something to eat, which can be a challenge with my nieces and nephew. The restaurant is nice enough for a family special occasion for my sophisticated parents; and approachable enough for the kids... this was the basis upon which we selected it and it didn't disappoint. The food is good and the service solid; we'll happily go back for a similar occasion in the future.
We had another delicious meal at Chef Geoff's. My husband started with the beer mussels - so tender and sweet and we loved the broth. That could have been a meal by itself! For entrees, I had the ribeye with crispy brussels sprouts. It was so good and the portion was so large that we took half of it home. My husband had the salmon with broccoli. It was perfectly prepared and he is really picky! I told Ilene, the manager, that i had never enjoyed beer. She brought me her favorite to try - that's the reason we love to come to Chef Geoff's. They go out of their way to make us feel welcome. Our server, Ian, was charming, knowledgable, and fun! Now if the chef will just make spiced chocolate sorbet a permanent dessert, we will be over the moon!!!
We had a group of 8 that arrived in three cars within 15 minutes of each other. While they seated the first two to arrive, there was no service until all 8 had arrived. At that point the server showed impatience with the fact that not all 8 people were ready to order right away. I would stay away from Chef Geoff's with a group and only go there with four people at the most.
This a great spot for a casual meal with friends and family. The service is attentive without being overbearing. The menu is diverse both in food choices and budget levels--there's everything from full dinner entrees to pizza, burgers, and sandwiches. Several folks at my table really enjoyed the seasonal halibut special. Others cut through the scallop dish offered and saved a bit of room for the popcorn flavored ice cream and the chocolate brownie cheesecake. All were delicious. The shrimp bisque needs work--not flavorful and was served lukewarm. Wine list is broad, cocktails are generous, and were prepared correctly.
I always have a very enjoyable experience at CG Tysons--I have been there for brunches, lunches, and dinners over the years. I like the food a lot, and there is a good variety in the menus; usually I'm torn between a couple of offerings. Another important factor is that the staff is extremely well trained, and all are very personable and friendly. All in all, I consider a visit to CG to be a really "happy meal."
We have given this restaurant three tries in the past several months. The service is consistently terrible. There is at least a ten minute wait after seating before anyone comes to the table. Last time the first thing the server said was that she was tired. Salad came before drinks. Main course arrived right after salad. Bread and butter arrived thereafter, only because we had asked several times. Hamburgers burned on outside and raw on inside. Other main course okay. If you want free dessert you can complain about the service. But we would rather have good service and pay for dessert. We will not return.
For the price, the kitchen talent is simply not at this location. For all of us, the food was just average, at best. Desserts, even less so. (If you want an ice cream sundae for dessert, with actual chunks of ice in it, this is your place.) Family of 4 foodies (two 50ish year olds, one 18 year old and one 15 year old) dining for a school event celebration dinner. We felt rushed for a 6:00 seating, until it came time to get the bill. That took 30 minutes.
And just as a point of ettiequte, unless requested otherwise, staff should not take a guest's dinner plate away until all of the guests at the table have finished. When you take the plate, or even ask to take the plate, the guest who has not finished eating will feel rushed. Lady manager/hostess in charge - I am talking to you.
For the price tag, plus a 20% tip, it was not worth it. We were disappointed to leave saying "never again." And that is a shame.
We had to ask for bread. We had to ask for our water to be refilled. I had the "special" salad of the day, it really was not special. The donuts for dessert were very good but a little over priced at $10.50. It was 5 donut holes. On top of that our waitress could hardly talk, we guessed a sore throat. Not what I wanted for an afternoon lunch meeting a friend.
Celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary last night at Chef Geoff's Tysons. From start to finish the food was simply outstanding. Pork Belly Steamed Buns were as good as those on the west coast. We always love the grilled artichoke. Husband had the soft shell crabs....two huge crabs perfectly prepared. I ordered the scallops....4 enormous diver scallops perfectly seared, served over a delicious risotto with bacon and fresh peas. No entree is over $29.95 which in our area is hard to find. Marcos gave us very professional and gracious service. The manager checked on us twice. Desserts were also fantastic (don't miss the donuts). Highly recommend CG for any meal!!
While there is an extensive wine list, I'm not familiar with many of them. Michael, made an excellent recommendation that we loved. As a former Texan, I am very picky about my ribs. I checked with Michael and he assured us that we wouldn't be disappointed, and he was right. They were tender and juicy and the sauce was yummy. They even provided fried pickles! The variety of sorbets is wonderful. I think the spicy chocolate should be a permanent choice - there is nothing like it anywhere and sometimes I come just in hopes to get that for dessert and am really bummed when you don't have it.
Went for Mother's Day dinner. The whole place seemed a bit stressed. Front desk wasn't friendly, food was only ok, service was friendly but kind of chaotic. We've loved having Chef Geoff's in the Tysons food desert, but this visit was disappointing. Probably didn't help that there was a screaming kid on one side of us and an arguing family on the other. We'll try again another time, though.
