Chef Geoff's Tysons Ratings and Reviews
While we had only one food complaint the service was AWFUL! The waitress we had was very nice but she had TOO many tables to properly care for anyone. Even after asking 3 people for more iced tea I had to wait way too long. This has been a go to restaurant for me for the last 5 years and I see it declining every time I go. Get it together Chef Geoff!
not impressed overall with restaurant. Found the restaurant to be very very noisy. Could not hear my friend talking. Food quality and variety was fair. Red wine by the glass was like drinking watered down grape juice. Had a merlot and then a cab and both had no body or character
Not up to expectations this time. Arrived 1:15pm Friday reservation. Almost no one in the restaurant. Wait staff seemed tired, service not attentive though waiter was friendly, and food was sadly disappointing too. Fish on the special fish/chips was ballooned by fried batter and the side slaw was so heavily spiced by jalapeno (the chili pepper was noted on the menu as to be inedible. Dessert was fine. It was a friend's birthday and there was a lit candle on the dessert plate.
We went to Chef Geoff's for Thanksgiving and we concerned that the food and service might not be up to their usual standards, but we were pleasantly surprised. Our server was excellent and extremely helpful and the food was fantastic! I truly enjoyed my meal and thought that all of the food we had was excellent.
This year we decided to have Thanksgiving dinner out. The menu was appropriate but had plenty of options for those who wanted something other than turkey. Our wait staff were attentive and quick and seemed to be enjoying the day. We had an excellent meal and plenty of chance to talk and share, and none of the hassle of meal prep and clean up. This may become our new tradition.
great restaurant and a great staff. our third thanksgiving in a row at Chef Geoff and all of us love it. very consistent from year to year, and a varied, inventive menu for thanksgiving day.
the regular menu also looks intriguing, and we're going to try that out for lunch or dinner very soon.
It was a disappointing evening all around. We asked in our reservation for a quiet table. They tried to seat us at the busiest location. We then ate at the bar because it was quieter and less busy. Strangely, they didn't know how to make a margarita???? First the server brought a drink that was a vodka drink, then when she returned with a margarita it was terrible tasting. The food was mixed --- 2 of the 4 were good, the other two lacking. The steak in the tacos was very tough, full of fat. Not what you expect in a $20 taco dinner. The server was indifferent and lacked attention to detail (forgot the dressing on the side, etc.) There are far better places to eat in the area.
I've been to Chef Geoff's many times over the years, and have always been pleased with my meal and the service. However, I was not at all pleased with this visit...either I ordered something that just wasn't satisfying to me, or the on duty lunch chef was in lacking skill or creativity. That said, one poor experience won't keep me from returning...overall, they've done a good job and consistently.
It was a nice, relaxing restaurant where you could carry on a conversation. The major problem was that both my friend and I had a very hard time finding it using GPS. There are no signs pointing to the horseshoe front entrance behind Tiffany's. Each of us spent over 10 minutes driving up and down Rte 7 and the access road trying to find it.
We hadn't been for a while but, were quickly reminded why we used to come regularly. The seasonal menu selections were great - the pumpkin/black bean soup and the pecan crusted salmon with mustard sauce and seasonal veggies were particular standouts. The fried calamari was beyond tender and practically melted in our mouths. Service was wonderful and our waitstaff all charming. We had a relaxing evening enjoying great food. Thank you!
No James Beard Award, but..
Chef Geoff is never going to light a true foodie's lamp. But the menu is fun, the food is consistently creative and well prepared, and the overall vibe reflects the namesake's upbeat, positive personality. I'm a fan and will returning, and recommending.
We had a birthday brunch here. All of the food was very good, we had traditional and smoked salmon eggs benedict, and cream stuffed frencb toast, a bloody mary, and mimosas. The eggs benedict were a little heavy on garlic butter/oil on the bread and short on hollandaise, but when we requested a bit more of the latter it was brought cheerfully and right away. The side potatoes were really good. Prices very reasonable for what we ordered. A little sad that my note in the reservation about it being a big birthday was apparently not seen, but our server did seem very busy with some other big and boisterous groups.
We have been to Chef Geoff's Tysons a number of times and always enjoy it. We were there on a Friday night and were seated immediately in an active but not crowded restaurant. We ordered drinks right away, and then looked at the menus and the specials and ordered appetizers and entrees. Then the bread came. Then the appetizers came. Then we ate the bread and appetizers and the plates were cleared away. But still no drinks, which we had ordered long before the appetizers. The server could not have been more apologetic when we raised the issue, and the manager also was apologetic and removed the drinks (which finally came at the same time as our entrees!) from the bill. Our food was very good, and we'll give them one more try, but they need to get it together in terms of service from the bar. Surprisingly, there were a number of people seated at the bar, and I'm sure what they could have been doing because based on our experience they were not being served drinks . . .
Very nice table and the manager came by to introduce himself. The food was delicious. The draft beer was a seasonal choice from Germany but not a memorable brew. They have many selections of wine and draft and we always enjoy dining at the Tyson’s location.
