Chef Geoff's is a neighborhood reliable eatery for us, and it did not disappoint. Our company was a little bothersome with a baby and really, really antsy, parent-hitting 2(?) year old on one side of us and twin girls ~16-20 months on the other side of us. We prevailed, but maybe all the kids get seated in the same area? or the private room, when available? versus on either side of a nice, quiet, want to have a conversation family?
Waiter was excellent, food good as always.
Very nice for out of town folks who want to visit a DC place that is not a chain restaurant.
Cruspy brussel sprouts a must order. I know, brussels, but they were amazing.
The dining experience was wonderful. The food quality was high and the service was impeccable.
After more than 20 years as a Chef Geoff customer the restaurant remains our family favorite. DC wouldn't be the same without the madras chicken. Happy New Year.
The burgers was good and I was able to substitute cheddar for blue chees. Also the option of greens instead of fries was wonderful.
Great experience. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Service was great!
If you like a waitress who does not speak English proficiently and stops at your table every three minutes to take your order and you like mediocre food than good. It seemed that she wanted us out of the place asap. She needed training. Add to that a very indifferent host and it seems that the place has gone down hill from being a fav neighborhood go to haunt. Its a shame. We need it!
Food was bland and vastly overpriced for the quality. The frittata tasted liked unseasoned tofu, with the same consistency. Pretty awful. Very noisy. Service was good.
Good location for a quick business lunch. Good food for a reasonable price, but the place lacks
a more inviting atmosphere and is rather noisy.
The food remains very good but the service has been crappy for a good 3 years now. And it's not just a one time thing. We come 30-40 times a year and it's mediocre to relatively bad every time.
the tuna tartare had a off taste to it and I was afraid to keep eating it! the crab cake with ginger broccoli was ridiculous...there were about 30 flowerets of the broccoli on my plate...more than any vegetable lover would ever eat and they were soggy! Totally disappointed.
Prices have gone up. Food is OK but not impressive.
Family dinner before a Christmas concert at Wesley Seminary at AU. Convenient parking. Friendly staff. Variety of choices from menu.
Everyone enjoyed their choices. Delicious hot bread and sweet butter. Nice vibe. Manager visited our table to say hello. Nice touch. Will be back.
They could not have been nicer. We had a large table - of ten. The waitstaff handled us well, served us beautifully and kept everyone happy. Well done!
We always enjoy the holiday menus at Chef Geoff. The selections are extensive offering something for everyone. Portions are ample and the price is reasonable.
Anniversary celebration trip to dc and thanksgiving dinner
we were pleased to be seated promptly and then receive attention from server. delicious drinks. we ordered the thanksgiving special, but we were disappointed. the turkey was dry with lukewarm gravy. looked and tasted like it had been 'standing' for a while. mentioned this dryness to server and she said 'sorry' but then walked away. dessert delicious.
i'm a long-time fan of this restaurant, but was disappointed for a holiday celebration.
thank you for asking
We were here for Thanksgiving and it was hopping. The servers did a great job, but it was very busy - never did get bread for example. Still they did a great job, and the turkey dinner was terrific. I had the trout, and it was fantastic. It was a good choice for a non traditional holiday meal (for me). Good desserts too.
The food was good!
We were looking for a resto for TG dinner for our family of 7. Food was very good. We had a great waitress but they could have used more help. It took forever to get our cocktails and the service was slow. Overall tho, happy with the food and the resto overal. Happy TG!
Thanksgiving ... excellent food and service
Loved our Thanksgiving dinner today. Stress free for me and had a great meal with my family. Thank you for giving us a nice holiday for a great price.
Thanksgiving dinner - disappointing. Food was not that interesting or exciting - whether choosing the turkey dinner, steak or pasta.
Went here for Thanksgiving dinner and was not disappointed. Nice traditional dinner of turkey with dressing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and brussell sprouts, the latter featuring big chunks of bacon, apparently a favorite of the chef. Desserts were a little disappointing. Waitstaff was extremely helpful, finding me a nice off-the-wine list beaujolais to complement the meal. Total with tip came to about $65, in line with the Washington restaurant scene.
Good as usual, but overpriced.
Ordered glass of wine and Brussels sprouts. They never came. Asked for Tina medium and it came out seared.
Crowded brunch. Food came out ice cold. Remade it but long wait. Quality left much to be desired.
Tablecloths, comfortable seating, great staff and ambiance as well as good value value. The noise level was pleasant during our Saturday brunch, and we appreciated
Being able to hear each other and converse without stress. However it took the new bartender a while to figure out how to make a Bloody Mary —forgivable but surprising. Our big suggestion is to lighten up the serving portions. There was too much food of the wrong kind—starch especially, e.g. toast with home fries overwhelmed the plate of scrambled eggs served with a skimpy piece or two of bacon. I would go back but be particular about ordering .
We have come here a few times now while visiting DC. It is a great spot if you are in the area as there are not a lot of finer dining options. The food is consistently good. We love the pizzas and the sweet potato gnocchi are a hit. Greens could use a bit more dressing or perhaps offer some on the side. The tres leche cake for dessert was a disappointment. Too untraditional and had some odd add-ons that seem random like the figs and brown sugar crumble. However, I am sure we will go back for the food and just choose a different dessert.
I have been to this restaurant on several occasions and have had some good and some not-so-good experiences. This visit was the worst experience to date. On the up side: (1) my request to be seated at a quiet table was honored; (2) we felt welcome and welcome to have a leisurely lunch; and (3) the hot water for the original service of our tea was nice and hot. On the down side: (1) my guest and I both ordered the black bean and pumpkin soup, which arrived at our table lukewarm ... and while it had been sitting wherever it had been sitting prior to being served - presumably white still hot - the croutons had melted into mushy sponge-like blobs in the soup; (2) likewise the miso glazed edamame was served at almost room temperature, the chili garlic sauce/garnish congealed into globs; (3) the bread we requested was never served; and (4) we had to ask for hot water to refresh our tea. Our waiter was present but not very attentive.
I felt embarrassed for having recommended your restaurant to my guest and unless I get an uncontrollable urge for the cinnamon doughnuts it is unlike that I will recommend it again.
The mushroom ravioli was delicious...and the rolls- Wow! Hot right out of the oven and sheer perfection!
We had a lovely lunch date - quiet enough for an opportunity to catch up our latest news, bustling enough to be part of a vibrant lunch experience. There were plenty of good choices, our server was attentive and helpful. Chef Geoff's provides a wide variety of lunch options, good portion size, and a nice relaxed atmosphere.
Friendly and attentive from the moment we arrived. The wait staff was excellent.
I am often a customer at Chef Geoff's, and find it uniformly good, both for its terrific food and its wonderful waitstaff. The are very accommodating about altering a dish if it is possible. The attention to customer details is impressive. IF you have not tried it, at least do so.
The one caveat is that it is near a University, so it can sometimes be noisy. That is easily overcome by making sure that the students should be in class, and avoiding days of big sports events, which they come in to watch. Otherwise, it is reasonably moderate in volume.
For the first time in several dining experiences we sent a dish back to the kitchen. The crab cakes had an odd taste and smell and my mom ended up sending it back for a salad.
Chef Geoff's is always a good experience. Fresh ingredients, well presented and tasteful. A place to return to again and again.
Service was great. Bread was fine. Guest had soup which was good. I had Chinese chicken salad. I asked for light dressing and it was swimming. The chicken was chopped and flavorless. Not awful but makes me unwilling to return anytime soon.
Our dinner consisted of 12 people; family reunion of sorts celebrating a 92 year old birthday. Everyone enjoyed the location, parking was easy, ambiance very good, food very good. It was our first time there so we were all pleased.
