Great setting on patio.. Great neighborhood gem for a casual get to… our waiter was pleasant and attentive throughput our dinner experience! We highly recommend this spot!
Wrong drink delivered - rarely saw waiter, food mediocre. I used to go here years ago and it was great. Seems it’s gone downhill.
This is a favorite neighborhood restaurant. As always, the food and the service were excellent.
Great time and food
Really enjoyed my tuna poke. The New Mexico Ave restaurant is a great local spot for casual dining
Patio dining was quite a grand way to welcome Autumn.
Disappointing lamb dish! Bees swarming our table. Usually much better than tonight.
Love the outdoor seating and the sun was at a tolerable level both in terms of glare and heat! Our server was very helpful and gave good advice on wine and drink options. Our party ordered different dishes. The Greek salad was a good-sized portion and shared between two. Could have stretched to three but two got a good hearty starter out of it. In terms of main courses, our party selected the penne pasta, Lamb mezze platter and the Butter Chicken. Lamb mezze went down a treat and had a very heart portion of pita which was enjoyed by our male companion who felt he could have eaten more pasta (we thought it was a very decent portion). The Butter chicken was tasty although we did not like the chicken in it at all - felt like there was a skin on the breast as opposed to clean meat so a lot of the chicken was left behind. Would not order that again. Overall flavors on our food were great, drinks were cold and water refilled regularly which we appreciated on a warm day. The atmosphere was lovely - conducive to having your own private chat but a nice murmure of chat from other tables around. We did not see the bill as it was paid by our male colleague but he said he thought it was good value. We had coffee which we would have liked to have refills but couldnt catch the servers eye but it was good coffee. We did not have starters or dessert. Overall a lovely venue, good service, good prices and good food. We did appreciate there was no sense of pressure to eat fast and move and got the time we wanted together for the first time in a long time! Thanks CJ's Will come again!
Fabulous mango habanero margarita paired with Southwestern Eggs Benedict were
delicious. Don't forget the ricotta donuts! Attentive service and a beautiful Sunday afternoon made it a perfect place to meet visiting friends.
Chef Geoff is one of our favorite restaurants in DC....great food, exceptional service and reasonable prices
Wonderful as usual but felt a bit rushed.
I’d encourage more training for the people assigning the seating. There were literally 6 people standing around and none of them seemed to be able to work the system that recognizes reservations. I asked for outside at 5:15 and was told that they were all booked. Just as expected because I dine here often, there were plenty of seats when leaving at 6:15. We sat inside and was surprised to see that they attempted to seat 2 other tables on top of us when at 5:30 it was pretty empty. Both guests requested different tables and were moved. Food was great as always but the experience delivered by front of the house was poor.
Chef Geoff’s has a wonderful patio, friendly and efficient service, and a menu with many favorites to order again and again. Plus it’s dog friendly.
The food here is always delicious; however, our waiter last week was truly outstanding. We were sitting outside having lunch when a thunderstorm suddenly began. The rain was coming down so hard we did not even want to leave the safety of our umbrella to run into the restaurant. Our waiter made three trips to carry all our dishes and and get resettled at a table inside, even though he got drenched. Wow!
Always a great experience…the Mahi Tacos are delicious!
We have frequented Chef Geoff’s New Mexico Avenue location for many years, as it is a “neighborhood” restaurant serving wholesome “grub.” We also do takeout, especially on their Tuesday family meals. Thus, we brought the three grandkids this time, sitting on the spacious patio. All the staff is masked (wish that they were all vaccinated, as well!), the kids’ meals were predictably wholesome (e.g. chicken strips and cheese pizza), my steak was a USDA Choice NY strip (frankly, they should charge more and offer a Prime variant), with delicious and crunchy French Fries and beans. A disappointment was the lack of pens or crayons for the kids to do their coloring of the menus?!?! Overall, a very pleasant outing which could have been even better. We’ll go again … and bring our own crayons next time.
A pleasant place to dine with friends and neighbors. Especially now they have added seat cushions outside!
Wonderfully accommodating to seat out party outside on a beautiful evening. Experienced enhanced by our wonderful server.
Our server, Marija, made the evening. She was on top of what we ordered and drank, and she is such a pleasure to deal with!
The fried calamari were excellent, as always. And the new mezze platter was very good! A nice night out.
Proximity to Chef Geoff’s was definitely selling point. For our move from Alexandria back to DC. The weather was perfect for sitting outside, and our server was very helpful. The gazpacho was delicious and our entrees, steak and swordfish, were very good. An added plus was picking up the”comfort meal” for brunch the following day. That was also delicious, securely packaged, and clear instructions.
Tables seated way too closely together
Very slow service
Food quality considerably compromised
Food was fine, if not stellar. However, a number of times we asked for or were supposed to get things (extra sauce, side dishes, etc) and they never came at all. The staff seemed not particularly well trained, and our waiter had his mask under his nose.
Having said that we love having an outdoor option in this location and we had a lovely time.
Great patio. Nice evening good food!
Delight day and meal on the patio at Chef Geoff’s, and the scallops and swordfish dishes were marvelous.
Good lunch place.
Service was excellent . A pleasant refuge on a nasty day.
Brunch outdoors - delicious, great service, relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. Excellent variety including good choices for our vegetarian. We will definitely do this again, especially when the weather invites eating outdoors again!
Chef Geoff's New Mexico Ave NW patio welcomed our group of five plus our pet Luna who behaved quite well throughout the lunch - and was treated to a bowl of water by the servers.
Highly recommended for a good dinner, good service, nice, laid back atmosphere. Will be back again soon!
The food was excellent, the server was a great college kid from AU, but it was a bit too slow for service
Indoor was fine because of air conditioning but outdoors looked lovely too.
Will be back!
Food is consistently fresh & well prepared. Great patio for comfortable outside dining. Menu offers solid variety of entrees & salads.
Everything was great - excellent staff - please everyone project them and wear a mask!
Delicious healthy food. Loved it.
We like the new menu. It is nice to retreat to Chef Geof while CoVid continues to rage outside.
Enjoyed a delicious and well-prepared meal here at restaurant week. Chef Geoff does not skimp on portions! Servings were generous and service excellent, which is rare in these Covid days. There was ample staff on hand to ensure all diners' requests were answered.
The food was more adventurous than I had remembered it being, but it's been a long time since I dined here. The patio is lovely, not crowded and we were fortunate to have beautiful weather.
Will return and bring friends.
Chef Geoff's is a really nice place for outdoor dining. The menu is good, the food is good. The service is average to below average. Mainly, the restaurant week advertisement and menu are misleading, actually false. Everything on the menu, they say, for $35. Only if you are willing to pay and upcharge of $8 for roughly half of the menu. It is still an attractive deal, but I resent being deceived.
Excellent food and great value all around for Restaurant Week. Great value wine, too.
Service was lacking. Our server was nice but mostly non-existent. Three of four meals came. Then a long wait with no communication on the 4th meal. And our water was not filled until I tracked down the manager. I suppose you could blame Covid for lack of staff but this seemed more of a lack of training and lack of management.
We had a nice experience b/c the food was exceptional and the patio is lovely. And the waiter was friendly but seemed to lack appropriate training and definitely did not communicate very well. He brought our dog water so that’s a +++.
Overall, good but not a great experience. $200 for 4 people for lunch/brunch, including 2 bottles of Chef Geoff Cava.
We will go back but disappointed with service overall.
I went during Restaurant Week and they had a great selection. Many restaurants only offer 3-4 options and their menu had a ton of options for each course. The food was really good and the service was great.
Our server, Kale, was very pleasant and attentive! Glad we tried this for restaurant week because we were able to try a lot at a decent price. The salmon was great. The strip was overcooked (medium, instead of MR) but not worth complaining. The flourless chocolate cake is delicious for dessert!
Great food, service, value, and ambiance. Yum! Two thumbs up.
Great food, value and service. Will be back soon!
