Good food and excellent service. Friends and I had a great time.
We are loyal customers of Chef Geoff's and last night's dinner was great.
Food interesting - nice additions to the menu, espec. the chili - and of course our waiter Maria (not sure of spelling), whom we've had a lot in the past and always appreciate.
Had a wonderful birthday dinner for my girlfriend. Our server was personable and pleasant, attentive. The ambiance was nice. And they had the Braves game on just far enough that I could keep tabs and still be engaged with my lady lol. Wonderful patrons also. Will be back!
Chef Geoff's is still a favorite, post pandemic. Warm service, good food and prices. While the patio is especially charming compared to so many restaurant sidewalk and street set ups, the new dark walls and bright lights indoors are far less inviting and enjoyable than the earlier color scheme.
Very slow service. Took more than an hour after we put in our order. Crispy calamari were excellent as an appetizer. Main courses very good. But why the slow service?
Great food and service. Always reliable
Went for brunch. No complaints. Food was tasty and very reasonably priced. We sat outside, there were heaters and plenty of space/distance.
always a pleasure to eat at Chef Geoff's.......food is delicious.
Good quality food, great outdoor dining, love we can bring the dogs. Very nice wait staff.
Nice place to eat and would recommend it as well as eat there again..
Food was not brought out timely, meal order was incorrect, credit card was swiped six times causing it to be denied resulting in having using another card, server must’ve been new or something didn’t pivot table often . I visit restaurant at least once every other month this was the worst experience in two years causing me to rethink coming back. If there’s a next timeI i’ll ask for who I believe is DeAndre to be my server because he’s always provided excellent service on previous visits.
Only issue is that they said no reservations for outside dining and when we arrived we asked for it as there were several open tables outside. We were then told that they were "reserved."
It pains me to write this review because I have never failed to have an excellent meal at Chef Geoff’s. Last night was the exception. I ordered the mezze platter-while the pita bread was warm and tasty, nothing else on the plate was remotely inspiring or even tasty. The incredibly dry and crusty lamb patties were the worst. Hard to cut into and barely edible. I’m sincerely hoping this was just a one off. I’ll certainly be giving them another chance.
Everything overall was great but the service was slow.
Between the pandemic and needing babysitting, it's been a couple of years since we could dine at Chef Geoff's for a nice evening out. What a disappointing return. The smoked mozzarella ravioli were ok, but hardly what I would consider "cacio e pepe" - plus it was a luke warm, small (but expensive) portion to boot.
When dinner was delivered, we asked for bread (which used to be a standard part of the CG experience). The runners who brought our plates looked stunned that we had asked and huddled with our server, who came back to the table to tell us that they don't have rolls. We were unclear if this is something they have done away with, or if they were just out. He didn't explain. He offered to bring pita bread instead, which we accepted, but then that took a while to receive.
Slow service was the theme of the evening. We were seated for almost 15 minutes before our server first appeared. From there, it didn't get any better, except that the food came out quickly. But our waiter rarely checked on us - not even to see if we wanted dessert. Even something simple like asking for coffee took an inordinate amount of time, as did actually receiving the coffee.
CG's is a neighborhood institution, and it used to be a favorite spot for us, but it will be a long time before we opt to spend a precious, child-free night out here again.
Excellent as always! I am a regular. I like that they have an outdoor option.
Everything was just perfect. I had a nice celebration for a friend who just got engaged, this was the best selection for our celebration. We sat outside on the patio and the staff was very attentive and quick with anything we needed. We ordered fun mocktails for the kids to be a part of the celebration as well. The food was outstanding. I had the curry chicken and it was one of the best I've ever had. The kids had pizza and chicken wings which was a nice option for two little ones to enjoy. The deserts were divine. We hated to leave and can't wait to go back again. Thanks again to all the staff for making this such a special event for us all.
I thought I had tried everything on the menu. But good grief the swordfish sandwich is awesome. I probably could've skipped the bacon though
Chef Geoff's our go to "Cheers Bar!" We have been regulars since the New Mexico Avenue establishment opened. Geoff Tracy has not lost that magic formula in the many years of our patronage.
Our server was awesome! The food was amazing! Had a terrific experience!
Our dinner last night was divine. We ate outside at a large table which was ample for the four of us plus a baby, my grandson. The service was gracious, the dinner delish.. I even took home leftovers, as did my daughter. I recommend Chef Geoff's totally.
We love CG’s but this was not a great experience. We had a great table, seated promptly, drink order taken promptly. Waited over 30 minutes for drinks- some came, others didn’t. Table ran out of water waiting for drinks. Waiter seemed annoyed. I’m guessing they were short staffed, but that isn’t my issue . My husband still left more than generous tip-but I’m not confident waiter or bartender actually deserved t=his generosity.
We dine here every time I’m in town, so 4 times a year-but with a large group every time, just disappointing. Met son’s girlfriend and I could tell she was unimpressed..
First time I've seen swordfish (club sandwich) on a menu in a long time! It was great.
I had made a reservation in advance of our seating for Saturday brunch. When we arrived, the host showed us to our table. It was in the sun without an umbrella and on a busy aisle. I asked we could be seated at one of the several tables with an umbrella. The host informed me that those were reserved. When I mentioned that I had a reservation, he told me he needed to seat people based on a waiter's section so that the waiters each had a similar number of tables. I have never encountered this situation before. I understand the need for fairness to the waiters. However, when a customer makes a legitimate request, and the desired option is available; then, in my experience, the request is met. This tainted my experience at your restaurant. Thank you for this opportunity.
One of the best places to eat out-of-doors in Washington. Great "pub" food, quick service and a sufficiently varied menu for every taste.
Very pleasant experience. Great food and beverage. Both inside and outside dining were available. Great for families or a date. Walkable to American University.
Too many dogs outside! Won't be eating there again. Sad, because it used to one of our favorite neighborhood places.
I love the food, the place and the nice terrace but coming from the parking lot you have to come in by the back door and that is unpleaseant. You bring a guest or someone special and has to come into the restaurant like a delivery package.
Also Opentable said seating outside was “not available” when the terrace was half empty
Always pleasant with reliably good food and pleasant atmosphere.
It was great! Loved the ambiance and the mahi tacos were so yummy! Our server Levi did a great job making our questions were answered
Great setting on patio.. Great neighborhood gem for a casual get to… our waiter was pleasant and attentive throughput our dinner experience! We highly recommend this spot!
Wrong drink delivered - rarely saw waiter, food mediocre. I used to go here years ago and it was great. Seems it’s gone downhill.
This is a favorite neighborhood restaurant. As always, the food and the service were excellent.
Great time and food
Really enjoyed my tuna poke. The New Mexico Ave restaurant is a great local spot for casual dining
Patio dining was quite a grand way to welcome Autumn.
Disappointing lamb dish! Bees swarming our table. Usually much better than tonight.
Love the outdoor seating and the sun was at a tolerable level both in terms of glare and heat! Our server was very helpful and gave good advice on wine and drink options. Our party ordered different dishes. The Greek salad was a good-sized portion and shared between two. Could have stretched to three but two got a good hearty starter out of it. In terms of main courses, our party selected the penne pasta, Lamb mezze platter and the Butter Chicken. Lamb mezze went down a treat and had a very heart portion of pita which was enjoyed by our male companion who felt he could have eaten more pasta (we thought it was a very decent portion). The Butter chicken was tasty although we did not like the chicken in it at all - felt like there was a skin on the breast as opposed to clean meat so a lot of the chicken was left behind. Would not order that again. Overall flavors on our food were great, drinks were cold and water refilled regularly which we appreciated on a warm day. The atmosphere was lovely - conducive to having your own private chat but a nice murmure of chat from other tables around. We did not see the bill as it was paid by our male colleague but he said he thought it was good value. We had coffee which we would have liked to have refills but couldnt catch the servers eye but it was good coffee. We did not have starters or dessert. Overall a lovely venue, good service, good prices and good food. We did appreciate there was no sense of pressure to eat fast and move and got the time we wanted together for the first time in a long time! Thanks CJ's Will come again!
Fabulous mango habanero margarita paired with Southwestern Eggs Benedict were
delicious. Don't forget the ricotta donuts! Attentive service and a beautiful Sunday afternoon made it a perfect place to meet visiting friends.
