To further strengthen the partnership with Hawaii’s local farmers and fishermen, Chef Chai co-founded Hawaii Island Chefs (HIC), the second generation of Hawaii Regional Cuisine Chefs. This group of HIC chefs is on a mission to provide the world with the best of Hawaii’s diverse culinary resources from the culture of the people and the bounty of the land and sea.
Chef Chai is constantly seeking out new spices and ingredients at Oahu’s farmers markets and in Honolulu’s Chinatown, which brings back childhood memories of shopping the local markets in Bangkok to find the freshest ingredients for his family’s popular restaurant.

This was my 6th or 7th visit over the past few years. I'd normally give 4-5 stars on service but tonight's server wasn't attentive. No one came to see if we were okay with our entrees. My empty cocktail glass sat there long after I was finished with my drink. He took my entree plate away but not the rice bowl, until he brought our desserts.
Enjoyable experience with lots of flavor!
What a treat to hear Robert Cazimero sing and see his hula dancers! And to have Aunty April and Kumu Maelie dance! The food was fantastic as was the service!
My favorite restaurant in Hawaii!
Always amazing food!! Well above expectations and service is excellent!
Everyone was so friendly and it was a wonderful dining experience.
Perfectly convenient to Blaisdell and good NYE option.
Vegan/Veg option is good and a regular.
Think it is time for a spruce up and deep clean in restrooms....
Food and service were excellent and I was happy to share the experience with my fiancee from Florida!
Thank you Chef Chai for a great evening!
Appetizers, entrees, and the dessert were excellent. Service was good—waiter made recommendations on entree selection and the timing of meals served was great. Restaurant was impeccably clean and Chef Chai himself was working to make sure everything ran smoothly that evening for everyone in the restaurant. I was very impressed.
very good food, nice place for date, anniversary, meeting, entertaining etc
Really enjoyed our first time there, it's the best dining experience I have had since moving to Oahu!
Great experience!! Food was delicious. We had a 5pm reservation and were delighted to find a prix fix menu for $42 each is served between 4-5. We ordered it I had the Salmon and my husband Filet Mignon. Couldn't believe how much food for the price which included appetizers and dessert. Some of the entree's were $42 if ordered separately or during regular hours so if you like to eat early it is a bargain. Friendly staff too.
Excellent food and service!!! Loved the naan bread, satay sauce dip and the salmon was so moist and delicious. Chocolate lava cake was the best!! Chef Chai’s is delish!
Greatly enjoyed the quality of the food and the friendly attentive service, BUT certain elements in the decor were noticeably dusty, I.e many of the clear glass accoutrements could’ve used cleaning
We were seated very promptly even though we made a mistake and made our reservation on the wrong day. Food was great and so was the ambiance. Would go again.
The service was outstanding and the food was amazing.
It was a perfect Christmas Eve dinner. Mahalo Chef Chai
Going to Chef Chai’s for Christmas Eve has become a family tradition. Excellent food with good service.
Chef Chai always provides excellent food and service.
Lifelong Hawaii residents, but first time to Chef Chai to have a quiet dinner to celebrate my wife's retirement. We both ordered the early bird special (recommended by our waiter). She ordered with beef entree and I had the salmon. Everything about this menu was mouth watering ono. We will defiantly be back ..... soon!
Chef Chai is always a wonderful experience from service to atmosphere and of course the food. It is a bit on the pricey side but worth every cent.
Our family had a wonderful time and will be returning.
Really good food, and excellent presentation
Excellent experience, especially given the fact that I was underdressed but they still served me as though I was one of their return customers. Good was delectable and service was the best!
We have been to Chef Chai's several times, and each time the service has been excellent, and the food so creative, well presented, and so delicious. Chef Chai presents his food like an artist. The appetizer sampler was amazing, as well as the salad and the main course. The ambiance is casual elegance. We will bring our friends from the mainland the next time, and can hardly wait to eat there again. For tghose who write a lot of negative reviews, you are too picky...
Requested low sodium entree and dish came out salty. Also, incorrect entree was served so had to be corrected which took 15 mins so my wife had to eat alone. Not a good dining experience for the expensive meal
We had a reservation for the full moon dinner. It was a nice choice.
The dinner was excellent and the show was nice vocal and HULA.
We had a nice time.
We'll visit soon again!
Wonderful food and service, made even more special with Robert Cazimeros terrific music!!
This was our first visit to Chef Chai and we enjoyed it thoroughly and would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. The ambiance, décor, service and food was outstanding. There was even live entertainment performed by R. Cazimero. This restaurant exceeded our expectations!
Our server (Darin N) took almost forever to refill a simple water glass. The restaurant was NOT busy at 730pm. Our reservations were for 730pm with a note that we were celebrating a 78th birthday dinner. Neither our hostess nor waiter acknowledged our birthday celebrant even though Darin asked us if we were celebrating anything special initially. We had a Beet Salad ($16) which was more of a garnished plate (more than half of the plate was empty when it came to our table - it looked like a few chopped beets arranged in a thin arc with over 70% empty white plate) and a Seafood Tortelini with Lobster Bisque, topped with corn, edamame ($17). The Seafood Tortelini was quite disappointing. It only had 4 teaspoon sized tortelinis in a bisque “soup” that barely covered the bottom of the oversized bowl. The bowl was 3x larger than the contents inside. The Scallop with Risotto ($40) only had 4 scallops on top of half-cooked risotto. Flavor was okay but could have cooked the risotto more to eliminate the grainy texture and lack of flavor development in the dish. The Lamb dish ($48) tasted good and was cooked perfectly (medium rare). However, when we asked to pack the remainder of the dish, Darin threw away half of the dish. When it was brought to his attention, all he said was, “I’m sorry” but did not offer to do anything to correct his mistake (he didn’t even bother to get a manager to visit our table) but instead asked us if we wanted to order a dessert. When he brought our dessert to our table (and the check at the same time) our waiter, disappeared for the rest of the evening. As we left the restaurant, we overheard another table singing “Happy Birthday” and saw that they had a nice complementary dessert with a single candle on it. Ironic that our party wasn’t even acknowledged of our Birthday celebration.
Note: Valet parking is $6 plus tip. The Valet didn’t even open the passenger door but stood by for his tip at the driver’s door.
Not worth the visit
The Oxtail Soup was AMAZING! So good!!!
First time experience at Chef Chai for a Christmas get together with close friends. The food was excellent and everyone enjoyed it, from appetizer to dessert!
Parking was non-existent at 5:30 pm. Yes they have one valet, only one person to accept and give back your car. Need a second and/or third person.
Food was good but no specials offered. Ordered the whole fried fish and no guidance as to how to eat it. No extra plate given for bones, lots of bones. Also no finger bowl or wipe to clean up after picking through the fish.
No chocolate dessert on menu other than haupia and don’t like haupia. They don’t even have chocolate ice cream.
I went there for my Anniversary dinner this past Thursday nite and it was just FABULOUS!!!!!
We decided to try the sampler special for $69 pp. EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING on that menu from appetizers, salads, entree and dessert was to die for!!!!!!!
I mean it. It was worth it and I didn't go home feeling hungry!
Everything was done well, every dish was thoughtfully put together and just melts in your mouth!
As usual, the overall experience was fabulous!!! It was our guest's first time at this location, as they've been to the Aloha Tower location numerous times. They come every year from Boston and conveyed, Chef Chai's is where we will celebrate our anniversary from now on!!!
We went to have a nice relaxing dinner before going to the Jo Koy concert. The dinner was excellent and we were even able to get their early bird prix fixe menu.
The only reason I gave ambiance 3-stars was because the light right above me kept flickering, like a strobe light, and it was starting to give me a headache. The staff tried their best to dim the lights and other things try to fix it but every 10-20mins it would keep doing it.
Food was great it just took quite a while for our food to come out. Even our dessert at the end. Lights also kept flickering so that was a little irritating. Overall it was great though! The prawns were AWESOME!!!!
Friendly, knowledgeable service, superb food. Took advantage of the Early Bird special and would do it again in a heartbeat!
Food was delicious, great service, wonderful ambiance - casual upscale.
