For my husband’s birthday, I wanted something special that would be a favorite memory. We had that special evening at Chai’s. It was the full moon concert, featuring chai’s so very delicious appetizer array and tenderloin steak. We were so happy with our meal. The steak was a perfect medium rare. There have been too many times at other restaurants where we would endure a medium well steak.
Then Robert Cazimero started his concert and it was magical, with friends from the audience getting up to sing or hula. And it wasn’t just anyone. We had a Miss Aloha Hula perform with such grace and legendary Danny Kaleikini sang so beautifully. He still has it.
Thank you Chai for this unforgettable evening!!
You need to dine at Chai's to experience the best tasting food!
Would recommend. Good food and wine
Great dining experience. The staff was attentive and food was awesome! Will come back for more.
All good with everything
It wasn't even open. We drove 45 minutes to get there. Open Table fooled us.
Creative food in a nice atmosphere. The valet parking is very convenient. Service was very good.
Housing lamb ribs were well cooked medium rare, with balanced sauce, spices, and well developed crust. Went well with Guiness but less so with red wine.
Our 2nd time here and we love it even more
Good was very well done. Good selection. The restaurant however was very run down. This is a place you go for a special occasion (Christmas Eve) and there is nothing special about the atmosphere.
With COVID surging it was uncomfortable being there. There were too many people crammed together. Signs indicated COVID precautions but the weren’t followed.
Perfect christmas eve dinner
Was very much looking forward to Christmas Eve dinner. Had planned it weeks in advance. It first started when checking in with the hostess. I realize it’s vivid but we were asked to wait out side in the rain while she checked in the people before us. After check in the hostess brought us to the worst table in the restaurant and passing all empty tables. I had to ask to be seated elsewhere and she complied. Our waiter came over promptly with menus but hearing him was impossible with the mask. My drinks arrived after our appetizer which is a huge disappointment. Dinner came quickly after which was very good. Dessert the waiter brought wrong desert. All in all the food very very good. But service was terrible for any night especially Christmas Eve. Would not go back because of the service
It's been 18 years since the last time my wife and I, my son and daughter spent Christmas time together and Chef Chai made it very memorable. Our server Dustin took good care of us. We enjoyed the appetizers and drinks. Our main entrees were so ono!
It was spectacular! The food was fabulous and the service was delightful. I also enjoyed the ambiance and the valet was so nice :)
Mediocre food (at best) with TOO fast service and overly bright retail lighting - no ambiance.
Highly recommended Chef Chai is awesome and great value!
Never disappointed. Always great foods and great service. New went on Moon Light Night and the music of Robert Cazimero made the evening even more special!
Excellent food - like I’ve never had before!!! Wow - Robert Cazimero gave a beautiful concert and that made for a great ambiance. Family joined him with hula and singing. Like the old Hawaii I remembered
Robert Caz fabulous, along with his array of hula dancers from past to present… they were wonderful! The food and service excellent! Great “full moon” concert! So happy we were there!
Great. Had a very nice time. Food excellent.
It’s so sad that my daughter’s celebration of turning 21 turned out not so great at Chef Chais. One of the reasons she choose to have it there was seeing and hearing Robert Cazimero’s Beautiful voice and the feel of a celebration of turning a milestone in her life.
Unfortunately they stuck us in an area/corner, where it was a bit gloomy looking, no Christmas 🎄 feel at all … it was Truly Horrible.
If I could do it all over again I would but NOTat Chef Chai’s
Such a disappointment… especially she was So looking Forward to her Special night.
But the only good thing was our server, he was very nice.
Been there numerous times for various celebrations, meetings and bringing ‘Ohana over from the mainland…. But now will be thinking twice for sure….. Aloha
Good food and drink. Nice service by JP. A bit pricey for the food. For example, this fish was very good but could have some vegetables with it.
Excellent from start to finish! Fantastic service, knowledgeable staff, and delicious food!
Everyone (all 7 of us) indicated they enjoyed the food and had a very good time. We especially enjoyed the complimentary sate pupus and the pupu platters.
Most interesting menu and delicious food. Good ambiance. Very special place to celebrate.
Wonderful food staff appetizers. Everything was beautiful!
Gets busy, but always wonderful food
The food was outstanding, our group thoroughly enjoyed the appetizer platter and the Alaskan King crab cakes, and our entrees were all excellent, the fish was cooked perfectly and the sauce was great, the jumbo scallops were so tender and delicious.
Overall great restaurant, you can be confident taking your important guests there.
This time, only some minor points that caught our attention:
- ceiling (recessed) lights were a bit too bright, one was aiming right at me. Overall brightness of the dining room would be better darker.
- A fly was around our section, was hard to get rid of, and staff when saw it, did not act on it.
- Only during covid, post-covid, we would feel better if all the glasses are brought out after guests arrive.
- please be extra careful about hair on the plate. This must have been from the table setting time (it was there when we first sat down.
- but again, this restaurant is treat, one of the few in Honolulu that makes you feel like coming back.
did not take good enough pictures this time, but we had the tasting menu. Great value since you get to taste most of the popular appetizers plus full size main dish. I love their lamb, but it was not on the tasting menu, but one of our friends ordered the lamb, and we switched my tenderloin steak and her lamb, so i was super happy, and the server arranged for it perfectly. and the dessert (especially the heart shape gelato) was fantastic!
They were out of several menu items. Service was not as friendly as other establishments on the island. Food was average.
Our server Dustin was excellent as usual. He was our server before and his attention to service detail is impeccable. His back server Kupu was also very good and engaging. Our party ordered the taster menu for 4 and the others ordered ala Carte and vegetarian. We wee pleasantly surprised when Chef Chai served our starters. Thank you Chef! I will always recommend dining at Chef because of the quality of food and service. Always consistent.
Mahalo Chef Chai and crew for making this birthday dinner a pleasant experience!
Excellent Service, Wonderful Food, a great experience!
Veggie options a plus! Such a sweet and pleasant environment! will be back!
The food is absolutely incredible. I had the vegetable terrine and my partner had the lamb chops. They were fantastic. The presentation is over the top! The risotto cakes and duck taco appetizers were also perfection. This is a local spot, versus a tourist spot. So, it’s slightly off of the “main strip”, but everyone should come here for the food! Dustin was a great server, as well. The interior of the restaurant is not overly impressive, but the food makes up for it! Great date night.
First time dining and it was awesome! Loved the plating and presentation, and the food was outstanding. The risotto was one of the best we’ve had and the scallops were perfectly seared. From the welcome service to the appetizer, spirited drinks to the main entree, all the way down to the guilty pleasure of our sweet tooth, it was amazing!
Dinner with my wife on a Thursday night. Food and service were terrific. Wait staff was upbeat, friendly and helpful. The food both looked and tasted wonderful. We ordered the prefix dinner option. The appetizer sampler looked as good as it tasted. My favorite was the macadamia nut crusted tiger prawns - wow! My wife’s main course was the sea bass - dreamy delicious (perfect temperature - much credit to the chef). My filet was cooked exactly right and quite flavorful. I had the coconut cake for dessert, which was good, not great. My wife had the Halo Halo, which fell a little short of her expectations (she is a bit of a Halo Halo snob to be fair). We brought our own wine bottle. Chai’s staff did a wonderful job of decanting and keeping our glasses full. Overall, we had an absolutely wonderful time.
We loved this restaurant! The food was delicious and beautiful and the service impeccable. It's also beautiful. Highly recommend.
Busy night because of the Jo Koy concert across the street, we were seated at an outside table with no covering and it started to rain immediately. They moved us to the bar top because there was no other space. Otherwise, the evening was great!
Called to say we were going to be late but got a "reservation canceled " notice. They accommodated us quickly though.
Server was knowledgeable and kind.
Food was good.
Great pre Jokoy dinner. Early bird menu was a great value and the flavors unbelievable. Ambiance was romantic and very casual dining. Will definitely return for another date night with the wife. 🤙🤙
