Chai Chaowasaree owner and Chef of Chef Chai at Pacifica Honolulu is recognized as one of Hawaii’s top Hawaii Regional Cuisine chefs. Known for fusing fresh Hawaii ingredients with the exotic flavors of Asia, Chef Chai has created a culinary style that reflects the cultural diversity of Oahu and the Hawaiian Islands.

To further strengthen the partnership with Hawaii’s local farmers and fishermen, Chef Chai co-founded Hawaii Island Chefs (HIC), the second generation of Hawaii Regional Cuisine Chefs. This group of HIC chefs is on a mission to provide the world with the best of Hawaii’s diverse culinary resources from the culture of the people and the bounty of the land and sea.

Chef Chai is constantly seeking out new spices and ingredients at Oahu’s farmers markets and in Honolulu’s Chinatown, which brings back childhood memories of shopping the local markets in Bangkok to find the freshest ingredients for his family’s popular restaurant.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the world. Chef Chai is one of the most recognized Chefs in the world. Not only is his food and placements outstanding, it is just beautiful to look at. He always has beautiful floral arrangements and his staff is great as well. We have had the same waiter for our last 3 years. We try to be here every year, and this was our 40th. Just love this place! ❤️

We had a party of four on a bust Saturday night. We were seated promptly. We told the waiter we had a show to attend and he made sure we were served quickly. All the food was excellent. It did take a little while for the 2 drinks from the bar to arrive, otherwise a great night!

Came for the early bird special and was not disappointed. Restaurant was quiet, empty and the service was great partially because it was early (had to order by 5pm). The evening and conversation was totally enjoyable. Would definitely come again.

We always love the food and ambiance at Chef Chai. My only concern was no one approached our table for drinks or water for approximately 13 minutes, until I got up and asked who was assigned to our table.

The food was delicious and very unique. The restaurant is beautiful and the ambience good. My only concern was since the chairs were quite ‘cushiony’ that it made me sit too low. I am neither really short nor too hefty, I believe.

I had the Fried Fish and it was very good. The brown multigrain rice was ok but I think the white rice would have been a better choice. The parking is valet $6 plus tip, attendant was very good. Overall very good and the comp appetizer was very good.

We were with a group of six having dinner before going to the opera. We chose a variety of items and courses. All arrived in the order we had asked. The zucchini soufflé and shrimp hors d’oeuvres were standouts. I was disappointed that they did not have the crab cakes but our waiter was helpful in choosing an alternative.

Everything we tasted was excellent. The salmon is exceptionally good . The shrimps on a scenario weighted the phyllo dough string wrapped around them is some thing different. One should not miss their white chocolate covered desert.
Early bird special between 4 & 5 is an excellent bargain

First time dining here and for my birthday. Flavors of the food and composure were very appealing. Service was excellent and delivery of the food was on point. They were out of the chocolate port and a couple of others which led me to not get one. The mouse chocolate Haupia cake was scrumptious. We will be back.

My husband and I recently moved to Oahu. We are on the lookout for new places to frequent and stumbled upon a Groupon for a 4 course meal at Chef Chai. We were not sure what to expect, but this surpassed our expectations. Delicious food, gorgeous presentation and a wide array of options (including several vegetarian dishes). We will definitely be returning. The ahi katsu is a must try :-)

Excellent meal and service. The food was served hot and very tasty, and in sequence from appetizer to main entrée to dessert. We took awhile to put away the appetizer sampler, but no rush, our entrée was not delivered to us until we finished. And it was still hot and savory, not dry or overcooked. The service was excellent as usual, as our waiter noticed that we were celebrating our anniversary, though we didn't say anything on the reservation or anyone, but just a card from family that was left on the table. Our waiter sent us a complementary dessert for the occasion.

Loved the presentation, food was delicious and service great. Loved that we were able to order a Tasting menu and the Early Bird menu. Most restaurants I’ve been to, if one person wants the Tasting menu then the whole group has to order it.

The food was AMAZING! We had the appetizer sampler. All of the offerings were excellent. We had the Chilean Sea Bass and the Hokkaido Scallops for our entrees. Both were perfectly cooked and extremely tasty. This was our second time dining here and will definitely be back to try some of the other offerings. I have no doubt they are all quite excellent.

They do a fine job cooking seafood. Hokkaido scallops and king salmon were cooked so that they were moist and not raw on the inside but not overcooked. Hamakua mushroom appetizer was good. Flavors here were not overpowering so the natural flavors of the food could still be appreciated.

Perhaps our expectations were too high, but we would not come back given the other culinary options in Honolulu. The restaurant is a confusing mix of old Hawaii with a woman selling flowers and lei from table to table while you dine and nouveau fusion atmosphere that did not mix. The piano player was nice as we were in the side dining room, but would have made conversation difficult in the main dining room. There were some interesting chandeliers that I noticed above our table which were constructed from wine glasses, however as I was commenting on them to my dining companion, I noticed that they were quite dusty. If you are going to have glass features and white lights, you've got to dust daily. The main dishes we had were the lamb (excellent) and the scallops (good but a bit bland and unexciting). For $160+ meal, we'll go elsewhere next time.

We attended Chai's on a special event evening when dinner was served along with entertainment by a top local/international recording artist. The house was full but serving was handled very efficiently and the prix fixe menu was exceptional. The appetizer included 4 different delectable items for each diner. The entrees were from the regular menu and the desserts were terrific as usual. What a wonderful evening!

Prices were what you’d expect in Honolulu but food matched the price. We had 5 different appetizers and loved them all. Very fresh and very tasty. Highly recommend!
