Dining together allows us to better understand who we are, regardless of our social status. The food does not have to be elegant, complicated, or fancy. We find that busy people like simple food—the busier they are, the simpler the food. Our menu is straightforward, down-home Southern food with a few more contemporary dishes.

Getting back to the table allows us to love and nurture each other and renew connections to our families—however they may be configured—in this diverse and ever-changing society. Such connections are crucial in a fast-paced world where we feel more disconnected every day. One of the best ways we know how to restore that daily balance is to sit down at our table.

We should all think about returning to the sanctity of the table, where we can rebuild our families whether they be given or chosen, and reconnect with those we love and choose to love. Our table is a familiar, uncomplicated, friendly place where we can celebrate.

I was surprised that at the beginning 2 waitresses were passing out free alcoholic spritzers. I appreciate the 20% discount because we were headed to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater to see 42 Balloons. Food was excellent and well presented.

What amazing service! They had flowers, they gave my date and I champagne, they gave us a great booth, the best food, and wine at the end with a hummingbird cupcake! Such perfect people, great food!

The best fried chicken in America! Service was outstanding, happy vibes, food prepared and seasoned deliciously. Beautiful decor.

Service was wonderful. I'm hesitant to rate the food because we only had the goat cheese biscuits (interesting) and chopped salad. The chicken in the salad was dry and the avocado pieces were tiny and scarce. Barely any dressing, which would have been fine if it had been tossed thoroughly (was only on about a third of the salad). I wanted to like the place and would give it another try, but would order a heartier entree. Service staff is five stars!

Made a reservation—they couldn’t find it, server was confused and I had to explain what the menu said to her, they hardly checked on us, and food was just ok.

Service and management supervison was outstanding. Fried chicken was very good tho the backs that were served had little meat on them. (Clearly on the plate only to make the portion seem bigger. ) No thighs and small drumsticks. They should round out dish with less mashed potatoes (huge portion) and a vegetable. Cake was fabulous! Ambience was nothing special.

We have enjoyed a pre-theater lunch multiple times. This visit was both surprising and very disappointing. The Chef Art’s salad, a previous favorite, had lifeless greens, missing dates and an over abundance of salad dressing that was too heavy in vinegar, lacking the balance previously enjoyed. The mashed potatoes were near soup in consistency. The jambalaya had one shrimp and was just “okay” in flavor. Were it not for. Erin, our very attentive server and previous dining experience we would not never return. Probably time to take a break and try other Pier restaurants.

We had made our reservation months in advance of coming and were really looking forward to having dinner here. Unfortunately, it turned out to be an extremely disappointing experience. We arrived for our 5:30pm reservation and were hoping to get in and out in around an hour (we had tickets for a show at Chicago Shakespeare on the Pier). We ordered an appetizer (tuna tartar - which didn’t require any cooking) and it took 35 minutes to get that. We had both ordered fried chicken dinners and started to get nervous when at 6:15pm we still didn’t have our entrees. We kept asking our waiter about our food and emphasized that we had to leave for the theater. Our dinners finally came at 6:25pm so we asked for take out containers and boxed up our food to take with us. It was an extremely disappointing experience since we have gone to other Art Smith restaurants in the past (The Blue Door and Homecoming at Disney Springs. In fact when we were at Homecoming in February Chef Smith was there and we had a lovely conversation with him and told him how much we have enjoyed eating at his restaurants in the past). While we won’t boycott his restaurants in the future, this was, again, an extremely disappointing experience because we were on vacation and hoping to have a wonderful time and this was the complete opposite. Our check was around $130 and so it was disappointing to have only been able to eat our appetizer; we ate our dinner back in our hotel room at 10:00pm after the theater. I don’t know what the problem was in the kitchen, but there was a real lack of communication because all the tables around us were asking where their food was. Not sure if it was a kitchen or management issue, but I think Chef Smith would be concerned to know that this happened at a restaurant that bears his name. We asked when we were seated if he was around but the hostess said “not tonight” but indicated he had been there a couple of days ago. I think he would be very concerned about this situation.

On a very hot day, their air conditioning seemed to be struggling to keep up. Eating indoors, the restaurant was water than what would be comfortable. The food was good, but not great. The kitchen seemed to be struggling and it was still early in the dinner period.
