Checkers Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We have been here a few times and have always had excellent service and delicious food. This time, it was so loud that our wait staff could not hear us and we could not hear them. Also, the food was not up to Checker's usual standards. The haricot verts were difficult to cut not to mention chew, and the filet was not cooked correctly even after being sent back. I know we'll be back one day.
We had the most amazing and lovely dinner at Checkers on Sunday evening. We asked for a quiet table far away from the bar and received the lovely gift of a table in an empty room where we could have a wonderful conversation with our friends. The service was unobtrusive but attentive and prompt. The apple salad delighted my husband's discriminating taste, the veal with risotto special filled my mouth with an explosion of wonderful flavors. One friend is gluten and dairy intolerant and enjoyed the entrée recommended for her. The warm apple cranberry cake dessert was the perfect finish. The meals were somewhat expensive (and we think $5.00 for a cup of coffee or tea seems a bit much) but we had a great experience.
We've been the Checkers Bistro multiple times. We always are pleased and return when we are in town. As always the food was fantastic, unfortunately on this trip the service wasn't. We were seated at our reservation time and promptly ordered and received our drinks. Our salads came out in a timely manner but that is where it ended. Once our salad plates were cleared we sat for more than 45 minutes waiting for our entrees. We watched tables that came in after us being served but we were not. After about 40 minutes we were looking for our server to ask if there was a problem and to consider cancelling our order. He could not be found. It almost felt as if he was avoiding our table. At about 55 minutes our entrees arrived. The food runner apologized for the delay without us saying a word so obviously there was some sort of issue. We would have appreciated our server coming to let us know what was going on. The next time our server came to us he just asked if our food was good, which it was but never a comment about the wait. When asked if we wanted dessert we just simply replied it was too late. Hoping this was a one time thing because the food is absolutely delicious. We would love to return but just would appreciate some communication from the staff.
Met my friend for Brunch. The food was excellent and service was as well. The tables are nicely spaced and the restaurant is fairly large. It was easy for us to have private conversation. Atmosphere is very nice - dark and comfy, pretty. Very nice bar area - we didn't hang out in there but it was nice. Our waitress worked hard to make sure our requests were met and she was willing to offer her opinion on things when asked. Very enjoyable Sunday afternoon. I would definitely go back. I also had the wine special of the day which was very good.
The restaurant is nice and the service was good. However, as someone from NY City who is used to eating really well, the food here is just ok. The steak frites are not as good as advertised. I was actually surprised at the lack of flavor. They were pretty bland.
We have been regulars for several years. Our family exchanges gift cards so we all go to Checkers for special events. Last visit everything seemed to have gone down a notch or two. It used to be very very good. This time it was just average, not sure if we will return. The menu has changed, this time for the worse. We felt like we were putting our server out, like he had better things to do than serve our dinner.
This was my third time at Checkers, and as always it was fantastic. Honestly I have no complaints whatsoever. The staff was attentive but not intrusive, the food was delicious. We will be going again. Oh, and it was a nice touch with the birthday surprise at the end of the meal..
The food decor and servers are tops. rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
We had a most wonderful experience. The food was excellent. In particular, the duck taco appetizer, and the scallops with leeks entree. On previous visits, we have always been seated in the front side of the restaurant, this time we sat on the back side, by the wine rack. The back side was noisier, and the noise level made it difficult for one of our party to hear our conversation. I'll request seating in the front with our next reservation. We will definitely be back.
I’m from New York and I was looking for a great place to go on a date and I found this restaurant and I can tell you they did not disappoint from entering the doors to leaving they made my dinning experience a very memorable one .. it was me and my guy’s first official date and our waiter Carl was very professional and his suggestions were spot on and when it was time for dessert he brought out a plate saying Happy First Date which was really something special . So I definitely will be going back everytime I come to visit from NY .
My husband and I visited Checkers Bistro for our 25th anniversary after making a reservation over a month in advance. The atmosphere was nice. The menu was limited which gave us high hopes ( the whole do a few things so they are all done to perfection). It was the service that ruined what would have been a nice dinner...after a fine start with a shared appetizer of calamari our waitress picked up our plates with one of our dinner forks and did not replace it...why was there no bus people on the floor? Our waters where not refilled and sat empty on the table through dinner. Dinner was served, no fork! 5 minutes passed, no stop by and still no fork, we started to share our fork so our food would not get cold. Another 5 minutes passed, still nothing. We were looking for anyone to help but although there were a few people who appeared to be in charge (from a distance) no one came near our table. I had the steak frites and did not get a steak knife. I did not finish because it was to hard to slice with my butter knife. When our waitress finally returned and brought us a fork, after we asked for one, she did ask if we wanted a drink, I ordered a glass of wine and as you can guess, she did not put the order in. When she returned again I did remind her about the wine and she did get it and finally filled our waters although we were finished dinner by then. We will not return. Even if our meal was incredible, the most basic service was not there.
If you live in Lancaster County or just visiting, you have to make time for a great dining experience at Checkers Bistro! From the Martini's with bleu cheese olives to the roasted chicken entrée, everything was spectacular. I know we are going back next time we are in Lancaster. Two thumbs up.
Great place! Nice atmosphere - lighting, furnishings, noise level all just right. Food is outstanding! Beet and goat cheese salad is so good. Steaks perfect, seafood is too. Service was awesome. A little pricey on the wine at $12/glass for Merlot. Highly recommend this place.
Something definitely off at Checkers. Years of outstanding meals and service not the same. Hard to make a reservation at a time we wanted, yet when we were seated many tables were empty and never filled during our stay. The coffee infused filet which always was outstanding and I recommended to my guests was not the same quality beef nor was it prepared as it always had been. Waitress ignored us most of the time, and although every time someone got up, their napkin was refolded, we never got water glasses refilled. Sorry, but too many other great places to eat in Lancaster, so I will not be coming back.
my appetizer came with my salad-they assumed my husband was sharing -he wasn't so because I had to finish both items it put us back behind everyone- people who had come in after us were eating their dinners and we were still waiting. My husband ordered a bowl of soup because dinner was so late. We also had to ask for bread. Reservation was at 6:15-left at 8:30-no coffee or dessert. Food was so-so. No one seemed concerned we had to wait.
Many restaurants in the city-cross this one off our list.
First time at the new location. Really nice feel to the place. Overall the food was really good. Split the calamari with sweet and spicy sauce for an app which was really good. Wife's entree scallops were a tad over salted, but still good. I had the cioppino that I really liked and we both got desserts and a couple drinks. Our server was very nice and helpful (I think his name was Lawrence).
Restaurant was cute and a great scene however, our entrees took an hour and a half to get to our table making us late to our event. I would understand if we were a big group but there were only 4 people and 2 of them got salads. I would come back again in the hopes the food comes in a timely manner.
It was our anniversary and we had the best dinner. We shared the.duck tacos our favorite, the beet salad, the tuna frites, and had some martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives. For dessert we had a pumpkin mousse with molasses ice cream. Everything was fantastic. Joe our waiter was excellent.
